I'm not sure people understand how much of a treasure it is to get to see theae dances and hear these songs performed. Its a living link to our nations often over looked deep history. Indeed it is a look at the history of many nations, each with its own language, culture, stories. Keep it alive friends.

Are you trying to insult people? Be cryptic and sound more educated? Whats your angle here?
@blackcitroenlove

@@Vercingetorige001 I'm guessing you're unaware of the various civilisations already present in North America. I'm a descendent of the Mississippian civilisation, as are most Southeastern tribal people. Aside from small pockets, Europeans essentially were colonised, their own indigenous ways beaten out of them, and they were made into philosophical Middle Easterners. Given your name on here, you even use your coloniser's language of Latin--it was likely not your people's language until you too were oppressed. I study this for a living, and also carry on these traditions. It may be best for you to 1) mind your own business, 2) learn your own traditions and 3) learn to respect that which is not on your own soil. You come off as an uneducated rube because of your insular views.

@@Gr0nt_Skegg he's a white supremacist, probably Italo-American from what I found about him on Spokeo. My question would be this--if Italy's so great, why did its people flood OUR shores as illiterate peasants who didn't even know how to bathe daily?

I use to go to pow wows as a child.. I have fantastic and wonderfully positive memories of them. They were always so inclusive, upbeat, positive and very energetic and infectiously fun! I'm not Indigenous but some of my cousins are half, and that is why we went with them. I remember being scared at 1st not knowing if it was okay for me to join in the dancing... the answer is very much yes in the dances for everyone.. maybe not the specialty dances so much..lol I promise anyone who has a chance to go to a pow wow will not regret it, and will have a fantastic time!

I hear yah, I am only like 1-5% Blackfoot and I went to a Powhatan pow wow (say that 5 times fast)in VA and at first I was worried and scared but then they called the young and old spectators to join them and I felt right at home, mostly bc the Blackfoot and Powhatan tribes come from the same family but still, if you ever get asked to join in one of these dances, I emplore you to do so.

I believe indigenous peoples of all nations are living with secret ancient knowledges. And this is true reason they were killed, poisoned and broken. So the "heart" in us feels the truth. The emotion is for our loss of knowledge of where the world came from. Stay true to your heart.

you've never met an North American Indian? you probably have you just never realized their background, may have mistaken them for Mexican, but even then Mexicans come from the same background as us Natives, they had just been mix bred with back and Spanish but they still believe a lot of same things we do these songs are powerful they are not only music but they are medicine for the soul and prayers of thanks and gratitude for the creator. and others are stories or love songs. very powerful

the Iroquois are one of my favorites. i met a guy who is original indigeonus America from Turtle Island or what have you he is part owner of a nightlife bar i used to go to in Miami Beach or maybe he is the owner i am not sure. i met a few native americans i used to deliver pizzas to the Seminole Indian Nation in Hollywood Florida to the tribal land mostly and sometimes to the casino i also dated a person who is part Cherokee, and my favorite bartender he is also part cherokee. I don't think it matters if it is cherokee or something else be proud of it i am. Keep on protecting the water it is the first medicine and it is sacred.

wmosleycr7, thanks for pointing that out. It's true. But they own it now based on the protection given to our relatives who left home by taking them in. They took the songs in too and they've earned it. We owe them a debt of gratitude for preserving these songs. Much respect to the Six Nations people for the hospitality of our departed relatives. I been learning to speak, write, (& also been trying to translate it as well) Hanguel, South Korean since, i was 17 i am 25 & i cannot pass levels 2 & 3, it so hard even having a korean friend teach me is more difficult, i now trying Mandarin Chinese but, i quite h gave up. I wan learn native but, not sure of the difficulty in the language that is y i ask. I not wan to b rude in any way @ all. I see myself & i also, push myself to learn & try to learn most of practally all languages but, i am being very careful wit the difficulty it brings wit it.

There are many Native languages. Some are more difficult than others. I guess it depends on what feels right according to what language you speak. For me, Chahta isn't so difficult, for others, it is. So I don't know how to answer your question. Remember, we don't speak just one language. There are many Nations, many Indigenous peoples who speak our own languages.

I was adopted found out both my parents were Native American my fathers Anishinaabe Odawa Ojibwe Potawatomi and my mother we believe to be Hopi most likely but might be Navajo her great grandmother was Native Indigenous from Jaliso Mexico Unfortunately because I'm 17.5% Indigenous but on 23%Me its 3rd highest % I feel like I finally have an answer. Unfortunately when I went to 2 Powwows because I was of 'Lower Quantum Dirty Blood' I was made fun of, called names and it was a bad experience despite the Sounds at the Powwows and I could feel it coursing in my veins and I felt closer to my Ancestors. Unfortunately because I'm of mixed blood I feel like an outsider, despite trying to learn and wanting to participate and do activities related to my Indigenous Ancestry. I found out I have half sisters who like me have no place to belong in terms of culture identity. Because we are 'mixed Indigenous with other' many like me hope to learn the languages of my ancestors and hope to keep the culture and traditions alive. Even if the community shuns us for be a small %.

Same here...Mohawk, Father's side. But I spend time in the stacks, Council House Research, actually go to events & there is always someone willing to broaden my understanding of "that day's puzzle." I have learned much, studying the language, going to historical places & lectures. Telling FBIs(Full Bloods) anything sets you up, so "put your 'Indian' on" & STAY QUIET. Once you gain some trust, make it a POINT to NOT BETRAY IT!!!. Observe much. Ask questions, especially at craft & trade demonstrations... it's how I got serious background on Snow Snake that I only found brief mentions of in the _Reprints_.... There are many Elders eager to share their knowledge... IF you present yourself "in a GOOD way," so bring tobacco & Feathers to "gift" and walk honorably. Eagle's Wings Protect You on your Learning Journeys.💜

I cant speak for the rest of six nations territory, but in Tonawanda there was a secret hate for mixed Indians. Although my father was full I was warned not to mention my mother. My grandfather (maybe 6th gen of male fb) before he passed told me, this is wrong and I am Seneca no matter who (even longhouse) tries to tell me different. I later found out from relatives nobody ever knew he spoke to me. He distanced himself from council and only attended special ceremony (but never sang or drummed again) as I was told. He told me much how Indians used to be and what they are turning into. A few days later he passed, and a few years later I would leave the rez.
