From my purchase of 400 laserdiscs, I watched these 26 movies. They include horror, Sci-Fi, exploitation, thrillers, classics and not-so classic movies.
Seeing which laserdiscs graduated from your backlog to your catalog is as much fun as seeing which CDs/albums have made it into your database. With everything you’ve got going on in your life, I’m amazed that you saw 26 laserdiscs in two months. If you ever do a video on time management skills, I’ll be taking detailed notes while watching it. I’ve seen several of the movies in your graduating class. My favorites are “Taxi Driver,” “Midnight Express” and “Logan’s Run.” I really liked “Drugstore Cowboy,” “Sleeping with the Enemy” and “Wild at Heart.” Despite its interesting premise, I thought “Flatliners” fell flat. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.) As I watched “The Principal” it became sillier and sillier (IMHO). Based on your descriptions, I hope to see “The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane,” “Cat People, “My Life as a Dog” and “The Good Son.” They sound right up my alley. The cast of “The Paper” makes me want to see that one.
Thanks as always - people seem to love the Paper - and if you have an interest in journalism, you may like it better than my wife and I. We liked it, but didn't love it. I agree with you on Principal - became really silly. Flatliners I also agree - should have been better, though I enjoyed it to an extent. Thanks again.
That's awesome. That movie bypassed me my whole life, though I knew of it. Wow - I loved it. Great little movie. You have great taste...lol. thanks so much
Midnight Express was fantastic, havent seen in like 20 years. I cant imagine Stepfather 2 or Psycho 4 have aged very well hahahha. I saw them both as a kid in the 1980s, fond memories. I just finished watching Rain Man tonight and I gotta say that its one of the most flawless films ever made. Best road trip movie ever. Best movie of the 80s and top ten film of all time. Flawless. Tom Cruise was never better. Saw it in the theater when i was 10 years old and loved it ever since.
I saw Rain Man when it came out and thought it was fantastic, but I haven't seen it since. I definitely have to see that again. Thanks for the reminder.
I've seen a few of those movies you showed and Wild At Heart I thought was great. I do like David Lynch and most of his films. Fun Fact: I have a half brother who's dad (Dale Hennesy) was the art director of Logan's Run and was nominated for a Academy Award for that film ( He won the Academy Award for Fantastic Voyage in 1966 but I have no memory of it since I was only 5 years old.) My brother worked at Disney in the imagineering department in Burbank, CA. for over 30 years and has since retired and now lives in Utah.
Wow Tarr that is really awesome. I still loved Logan's Run. Saw it when I was young and always stuck with me and still does. I have Fantastic Voyage on laser too - another favorite of mine - what a great concept that was too. Thanks for sharing - that is really cool.
@@STEVEHEROLDYeah, it's a pretty cool memory as I get older. I did see him a few times and went to his house to see the golden statue which was quite heavy as I remember. I got to go on set of Young Frankenstein when they were setting up for the day ( I didn't see any actors) I just remember walkie-talkies going off all the time along with alarm type bells. Ironically, the last time I saw him I had just seen Logan's Run in Westwood with my brother and we met him for breakfast the next morning. He asked me what I thought of the movie and he began to say how he did not like his time working on that film. He clashed with the director and a lot of his ideas were turned down. He found it frustrating. At the time he was working on King Kong ( Jeff Bridges, Jessica Lange ) and I got to be an extra in a crowd seen with helicopters and a large King Kong statue that partially moved. I do remember it being filmed at the MGM lot in Culver City. And that was my summer vacation in 1976.
@@STEVEHEROLDWow, a King Kong '76 t-shirt, I don't even have one of those. I do like The Producers but I think you're right, Young Frankenstein is probably Mel Brooks best film. I remember wanting to meet Marty Feldman but no dice.
lotta great titles. logan’s run i remember seeing as a kid. one of my earliest movie memories. i remember it freakin’ me out. the ceremony part. so many of these titles being me back to the days of working i video store in early 90s. always wondered how Psycho 4 was. Sounds like not worth a view. Good Son was remake of Bad Seed. I like The Principal. Its def over the top but fun. I mean that story has been done a hundred times. I thought that was one of the Landers sisters on cover of Tennessee Buck. I’ve never seen Wild at Heart. Been meaning to. My Life as a Dog is another I’ve been meaning to watch for ages.
so cool you worked at a video store. My wife and I still talk about those days and just being a member and how much fun it was to go and browse and pick out VHS movies (especially for me those trashy horror films). Was a great time.
@@STEVEHEROLD I could imagine. I bet when look back a highlight of working life. Though gotta say your working life seems pretty incredible to me. Still very cool.
Hello, only seen Midnight Express, Cat People, Taxi driver, My life as a dog in cinema in this bunch Maybe try to find this Desperate hour, keep on rocking in free world...
Hi Alan - I gotta say that's a hell of a collection. Truth is - I am NOT a movie buff at all. I have a nice collection of music / rock DVD's, in concert stuff, but movies -they just dont do it for me. Cya Doug
Thanks Doug for watching and commenting even though you're not a movie guy. I appreciate it. I'll probably do a video on my rock laserdiscs - might be a little more appealing. Best, Alan
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Backdraft is my favorite firefighter film, along with Towering Inferno and Ladder 49. Best firefighter tv show for me is the 70s show Emergency, Kevin Tighe and Randolph Mantooth did their own stunts!
Wow wow wow……… wow! What an amazing parade of excellent Laserdiscs. I want that Logans Run! Not least for how good that cover looks. Freejack… not even I wanted to buy that (back then) 😄 Gorgeous Taxi Driver disc 😳 Wow, Anthony Hopkins looks good in a blonde whig! Idiotic way to display actors names. Ooo, Flatliners and the Good Son! Both scary in each their way. Flatlieners not seen in years and years… because I only have it on VHS. Hey, I have the Paper! And I loved it 😊 Action star James Belushi. K-9 it aint. Oh, I so want to see Wild at Heart again. Have it on VHS so… yeah. Yes, My Life As A Dog is Swedish. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards that year in the categories of Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Never seen the Andromeda Strain. Not sure why. Great fun seeing all those nice Laserdiscs Alan 😊
I remember long before dvd when I bought ALIENS and THE ABYSS box sets either much longer cuts of the movies. I was a pig in shit. The Abyss became a different and much better movie.
I used to have e some great Japanese concert laserdisc. Stuff never released here or even on dvd! (Grand Funk Japan 1974 comes to mind) Had the crappy RCA videodisc system too.
Have you ever had a laser disc that would not play and tried to resurface it? I have a copy of Videodrome that skips. I bought the novus 3,2,1 used it several times and still skips. Any advice please?
No. I buy laserdiscs by the hundreds, and I watch everyone of them. If the disc has rot or won't play - right into the garbage. Love Videodrome though - nice score - I don't have that laserdisc. Where I live, laserdiscs go for very cheap, not much value to them, except for Criterion, Horror, Sci-Fi and boxsets.
And let's not forget you had to watch each one 5 times........ 😮 Logan's Run had a great soundtrack. I love Midnight Cowboy and Drugstore Cowboy. Mick's not the greatest actor but I thought he was great in Bent. Did you see that? It's a shame there's no laser disc of Human Centipede 😂😂. Taxi Driver.....great movie. It's a shame Robert DeNiro went crazy. I am looking forward to the new edition of Stop Making Sense. I actually saw that tour. It's one of the greatest concert movies .
Lol these I only watch once. Though I do watch everything on them. Alternative audio tracks and documentaries. Never saw Bent. He was great in the movie Man From Elysian Fields. Great movie and he was really good in it.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShowYou're right. The Man From Elysian Fields was very good. Just seeing that Donald Sutherland has died. You were just talking about his movie.
I thought it was good. Great cast. Laserdisc has it as a comedy. I was like this is no comedy. Didn’t find it funny. Maybe some stuff was a bit over the top and that was supposed to be funny. I don’t know. Thought was ok.
Yes Performance is a fantastic movie (mostly because of James Fox though). I did enjoy Ned Kelly as well. Yes best on a CRT. But the TV's I watch it on aren't huge and I have a converter on them so looks good - not as sharp as DVD or Bluray of course, but plenty good. Looks like film which I like.
@@jasonpp1973 yes he was. I don’t like some of Bowies movies. But he was a very good actor. His performance in Elephant Man on Broadway was incredible.
