Robert, I don’t know who this Tim Nichols fella is but he is full of it. I love your honesty, work ethic, information, and reality of the Hotshot business, and yes I love the rants, but I can assure you I want nothing but the best for you and Lita and your business. Life is not all sugar plums and ferries and I’m just appreciative for taking us all on your journey. Best of luck and keep trucking!
Man you are fucking awsome all your videos are the best and very informative. Keep on you’re GREAT work thanks for all the info and entertainment. Don’t pay no mind to the negative comments, stay calm and keep on trucking dont stop being you! Thanks again for everything
When I had wire problems on our 3car trailer, I bought a 14gauge 100ft extension cord and rewired the whole trailer in 4 hours, I did it at night while of duty. $150 and it's been 7 years and still working good without issues.
When I was younger I worked for a guy that roofed houses, he always said we'll be gone when it rains. I think the trailer company thought the same way.
FYI having a power probe is a great investment...it hooks up to the battery directly and you can apply power and ground to test circuits.. I also would buy some rubber hose like bigger vacuum line or fuel line and cut it length wise to wrap it around those wires and tape it up so it won't shift. Will add some buffer to not chafe those wires on the square tubing.
When I bought my Ram 3500 DRW I got the Tradesman. It is just about the lowest trim package they offer. My thought is that the more electronics you add, the more that can go wrong. When ever I buy a trailer (even new), I rewire it to my standards. I run the round 7 wire that's in the thick neoprene (blue) jacket. Then I run water proof junction boxes. Every connection is waterproof. Every light has a ground wire run to it (from the plug) AND grounded to the frame.
Just a word of advise. those screw jack on the front of the boat trailer are extremely cheap and fold up or break off a lot. The way you are strapping it down has all the downward pressure on it. If it gives all your straps will come loose and bye bye boat. I would suggest putting some 6x6 blocks or something solid to support it or lower it all the way down and let the tongue to the floor. Safe travels from a fellow South Georgian. (Savannah)
Another great vid keep them coming. You are a no bullshitter guy that’s what I like about you. You tell it like it is and that’s what people need. I seriously thought about doing this granted I have no clue about doing it but now I will just stick with my gig in a hospital. I thought it would be fun to travel all over but now I understand that’s not the case lol. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family man. Keep the vids coming.
1st time commenting, great videos, very informative and sometimes entertaining. We just got our authority and all is a go, Hoping for first load tomorrow(3/3). Based in Apalachin NY
Damn, Robert, you added 1,000 new subs in the last 30 days - 400 of them in the last 6 days. You are on a roll, man! People like to go with you on these jobs. Show as much as possible. 😉
One investment you may want to make is a wireless trailer light. The one I have is 36 inches wide and is a running light, brake light, left and right blinker and all flashes as a hazard. It's a life saver.
Also I had the same problem on my 2016 f350 with the running lights. What I did was made a jumper wire that jumps from the the power(12v running to trailer) wire in the trailer wiring distribution box to the running lights. That way I dont have to worry about it anymore and also they are always on even during the day. When you rewire your trailer get the blue 7 wire. Can get it on amazon. Also get a distribution box to go up front on the trailer. Makes things very nice and easy to add things or so on
That motel at the beginning had the same basic layout of the 'old' Best Western "All Suites" in Kenner, LA that I stayed at (pre-Katrina) in the late 1990's. Yup, it had a pool in that "commons" area. Safe journeys! Ken
There are tie down points on the pontoons, both front and back. You can put some belly wraps on the boat trailer to help stabilize it. Stuff some plastic bags in the end of the square tubing to stop the wires from rubbing until you get a chance to fix it correctly. It will help it from rubbing through and shorting out your lights.
Robert, I mentioned it a couple of times in the past on your videos pulling equipment and more over trailers. Never trust those reach wheel jacks, even more so the ones designed to swing up out of the way for towing. They love to fail when you lease expect it. Always block up trailer reaches with timber or dunnage that give you one good solid anchor point, don't trust the reach jack. If possible (which is usually the case) wind the reach jack up so it's not even touching the deck, that way you can be sure the trailer is going to stay where you put it each and every time.. You know the suspension on the trailer is going to bounce so let it bounce by securing the trailer axles to the deck, then the boat to the trailer frame. cross chaining the axle, front and back by the springs will avoid damaging the frame. Safe travels...
just a thought on fuses.. if i go to the junk yard for something i try to find a truck like mine and take all the fuses out of it .. most places will let you have them for free .. i have been charged 5 bux once .. but there was about 90 bux worth of fuses relays and all that stuff... just a thought :) .. oh that trailer being pushed off is going to be a p.i.t.a. without a piece of c channel flipped up like this l_l for the front wheel to ride in as a ramp to the ground .. you may be able to use your 2x4's if they are long enough.. unless your deck is low enough to the ground for you to lay the ball hitch on the end of the deck and the crank is long enough to touch the ground .. either way good luck .. i would keep the winch attached to the tongue of the boat as unloading
Remember trolls become part of algorithms, they suck but it does give better random viewership, keep going with you tube. Great channel can’t figure why you have trolls but you’re gaining.
@@SouthGeorgiahotshot - Robert, Tim is right. Every comment and view adds to the channel figures. Never block anyone, just let them rant. Sometimes when they rile up your subs, it creates a lot more comments and activity which draws more wanting to join in. Even try a little sarcasm; "Gee whillikers, Roscoe, you need to eat some prunes and get that sh*t out of your system". 😏
Needs a better ground! Along with replacing wire and adding protective coating, if the wires are getting warm then your ground is weak. Adding just an extra ground wite from truck frame-trailer will keep them suckers glowin in shitty weather
The rear end of the pontoons have straps attaching the the boat to the trailer. So many times people launch their boats and forget to detach the straps and they sink the boat as the trailer goes down into the water.
Thanks for sharing about the Ford. My 2014 Ram Limited has total 14 recalls. At one point it needed the $3,000 scr replaced and it took four trips back to the smog shop to try to get it to pass smog and I felt like just getting rid of it as I had no registration at that time in California without a smog pass. I had considered buying a Ford. With your talents and being able to repair vehicles you can make lots of money as a mobile mechanic here in California. Or you could start your own handyman business and be a sole operator without the headache of employees. The only downside as houses are almost a million dollar each in the suburbs. But in the ghettos of Oakland you could still find housing for two to three hundred thousand. In the Bay Area we have not had rain in all of February and most days are sunny and warm and beautiful. I'm trying to do lots of fishing and I could really use that boat you delivered. If you could deal with a communist-run state we would welcome you to California. The weather and the scenery make me never want to leave. There are so many jobs in the Bay Area and my son is making 15.50 an hour making salads
Good job on securing the Pontoon Boat to your trailer. IF the boat had a charged battery and ignition key, you could have tucked that motor tight to the transom with the power trim and tilt switch on the console.
A Tip on Boats: Usually the shipper gives the length of the boat only- might figure on adding 3-5' if its on a trailer? Also that type of motor on a boat usually has an electric trim that raises and lowers the motor. Up like that is usually the pulling position, down is for when its in the water. Sometimes theres a manual lock on the engine to lock the engine up if pulling it a long ways and sometimes not? Actually usually the cable up front is snugged to hold the front of the boat on the trailer? That winch may be messed up?
My 10 year old son and I watch your videos together and he said "dad he is finally gonna unload that dang orange sign"... ha ha.... love the new intro by the way well said
From the factory most small boats are shrink wrapped to their trailer and they use cribbing to support the trailer tongue. The main pin on those dolly wheels are small.
If you’re in the central Ohio area get ahold of me. My business does trailer repairs and we will wire that trailer so you will never have a problem again
Never...yea not likely. But there's always room for improvement on a factory wiring job. They probably only give the guy doing it 2.3 minutes to wire the trailer
mrmotofy never is a bold statement. Let’s change that to wiring that will last a long time. The manufactures will cut ever corner on wiring and it’s the first thing that upsets people about a trailer they bought. If they did good wiring from the factory everyone would be much happier.
I know that you have to keep the tarps up on the tool box but when you can put them on the deck it looks like they catch a lot of wind It might help with milage
Ha I got a $100 K Volvo that the TPMS works about two weeks and then I can drive five miles and the light comes back on. I ordered a OBDII scanner that resets the damn sensors, for under $125.00 to keep me from sitting at the Volvo dealer cooling my heels! Make Ford replace the module for the TPMS and the wheel sensors AT THE SAME TIME!
SouthGeorgiaHotShot I even bought a complete new set of sensors, now they tell me it’s the receiving module that has to be replaced and it has to be done at the dealer the new one has it receive both and swap the programming from one to another for a total cost of 3k!
SouthGeorgiaHotshot , maybe you can help me and point me in the right direction. To become a hotshot you can used any diesel truck don’t matter if a old truck? Or it have to be a new truck or specific year .Thanks, and thanks for your great video.
Doing a great job man. Don't get your self all worked up and bummed about your load bro you will get good and bad just keep your head up high and thank god your making something. There are a lot of less fortunate people out there. You are doing it the best you can. So roll with it. Now opinions are like assholes every ones got one. That is your business not no one else's do it your way bro. As for the radio ya that's very annoying myself next time I was in town I'd go to that dealership and make them fix it. And you have the proof of it on this video. Wow bad luck with that trailer errr. When you do your wording I would run it through conduits to a box were each wire comes out. Something to think about again opinions are like assholes. 😂 good job though so keep on trucking
I'm not trying to hate, bro. But you knew about that wiring. It's in one of your videos. It is a good lesson for others. Once you spot a problem, you should correct it then. I hope when you got home, you rewired your trailer with better wire.
Looks like you need a few days off to re wire your trailer. I would go up one size from what you have then order it bulk. and re wire it the way you need too. Job be done and no more problems
Those tire pressure monitoring systems are in your valve stems. they only last for a couple of yrs then they need to be rebuilt or replaced. at les Schwab, 7.99 each for a car. I was told by my dealership, and them, that every tire must be able to work with a TPM or the sensor will not work.
Yeah if you’ve had experience hauling cars maybe a 3 car hauler would be a good option. Less hassle with odd loads and such. Kauffman makes some nice car trailers.
The way they wire those trailers anymore, sounds like you had a naked wire rubbing against metal on the trailer, keeping your running lights from working? Thats probably what shot the fuse? On tractor trailers, the running light wire is bad about burning loose from the terminal in the trailer light cord plug. Id have to take the plug apart and re-attach the wire or just replace the light cord altogether, depending on how bad it melted the terminal? I always carried an extra light cord just in case? They are a little different than standard car and pickup light cords in that they had plugs on both ends-one for the tractor and one for the trailer. There were several things I used to keep with me in case I got out in the middle of nowhere and needed them: Extra Alternator, Extra Starter, Extra Light Cord, Extra Set of Belts, Extra Set of Water Hoses and Extra Set of Air Lines. Oh and plenty of electrical tape!HaHa I hated being broke down on the side of the road somewhere and having to call a wrecker. I dont mind using wreckers but they sure are expensive on tractor trailers, which they have to be expensive as much as wreckers cost these days, and will wipe out your profit quick.
@@SouthGeorgiahotshot lol sure did but it beat wrecker bills and shop bills and losing time sitting at shops. Told you I was a cheapskate!LOL I changed a turbo on my Pete sitting on the side of a snow covered interstate once. Ordered it online and had it shipped next day FedEx. Driver said thats the first time he ever delivered a package to the side of the interstate!LOL
That issue you're having with your sync 3 is actually the Android auto app that's freezing up The phone features and that's the issue with boat listingsa lot of times they only give the length of the boat and failed to take into account the length of the trailer as well
Robert just a question for you you said you had experience hauling cars if I was you I would get a 3 car weig trailer and haul car,s made a good liven for 30 years hauling cars and I live in Maine just a thought for you
@@SouthGeorgiahotshot You can make a profit hauling cars. The number you have to haul depends on the type rig you have. You just can't go with the idea that each car has to pay $4/mile like a couple haulers try to tell you they get.
@@SouthGeorgiahotshot I still get call ever day I had a 7 car and sold it and got a 3 car weig trailer with a f350 super cab and I'm 53 and retired I have plenty of cash to play with so you might want to check in to it I owes got 1250 a car from Maine to Florida with the snow bird's so that is spring and fall so it's up to you man I'm thinking about buying a new truck and trailer and doing it again
I would be a little leary of trying to move the boat back to shuffle the loads, with as close as the wheels are to the edge of the trailer. If it gets away from you and goes a little crooked, it will drop a wheel off the trailer before you could stop it.
Did you try the call end button on the steering wheel? I never use android auto with my sync 3 I just use the Ford navigation or my google maps on my note 9.
Take picture of all scrapes scratch. You are your own boss paying everything on a computer logger you have a class A CDl get a big rig make big money not limited anymore you'll have good and bad days but you'll have a real nice bed behind you room. Damnit man you want some cheese with that wine ha ha been there done that lost feeling in my legs frost bite glad you survived.
Did you buy your Ford brand New?? when the door is open and it does the chimes. I drove a truck like yours and thought the chimes were saying "piece of shit-piece of shit""
Basically the Android Auto is just a screenmirror of the App on your phone just a second screen so your phone is the curlprit, ford sync has nothing to do with that.
I notice that you practice taking your attention away from the road to look at the gps or paperwork and the display screen and camera! Consider shooting all your video before rolling out on the highway!
Hey man I have sync three in my mustang I had all the same problems go get it updated at the ford dealer it was like 40$ and it works better than ever. It went from like sync 3.1 to 3.7 or something.
Mine can and has downloaded the new update. Theres an option in the setting to connect it to wifi and manually or automatically do updates. Ive tried them all. And according the the software listed. Its the newest out.
Robert it doesn't matter what truck you but they all are a bunch of junk with an overprice tag attached the quality in the new autos went out the door years ago
Next time you get a boat the measurements are always for just the boat sans the extra for the motor and trailer. Next time take that boat through one of those hand spray car wash and put a dollar in and the hot water will melts the snow. Put that tongue up through over the tool box and ratchet up the tongue allowing the rear of the trailer to sit on the deck!
Get a company driver job for a smaller trucking company. Where I work there is 90 trucks. Zero worrys the drivers just drive newer trucks. Guarenteed 1k week. Run hard 80k a year. Home weekends. 3paid weeks off a year. Full cheap benefits. I'm a trailer mechanic for over 12 years and all trailer wiring fails. Been watching since your first video. You are working way to much for what you make. No strapping or tarping nothing. Only haul reefers and dry vans.
I have the same thing with tpms, see what the problem is you're your phone charger is interfering with the monitor sensor it sounds stupid but and give it a shot just disconnected for about half hour and see what it will do and then plug it back in and if the light comes on then you know that would be the cause just interference mine does the same thing but my says faulty sensor.but if you have no nothing charging or nothing plugged in upfront it doesn't interfere with that monitor sensor it's weird and crazy I know but something you can try doesn't cost anything disconnect unplug and see what happens it should go off. Maybe it might save you a trip to go I'm going back to the dealer or getting frustrated something you can try doesn't cost you a dime.
