Hauling Manure Pit | Hosing 3.5 MILLION gallons 4.5 MILES away

We pump our manure pit at the dairy 4.5 miles away to a couple other farms we run. We hose or dragline the manure to keep tankers off the roads, less compaction in fields, less odor and less runoff since it gets injected into the soil. A Case 420 FWD tractor is pulling the 26ft injecting disk toolbar and a John Deere 8235R and 8225R are also assisting with the hose. 3 booster pumps are being used to keep the pressure consistent on the 8 inch hose all the way to the field. #manure #nutrientmanagement

A couple years ago I took a job driving one of those. At the end of the night we took a heavy bullet sponge and used compressed air to shoot the sponge thru the hose to clean it out. The hose gets wound up onto hydraulically driven reels.

Oh how I wish you could pump some of that onto our land. We have not had livestock in our area for many years and the land is suffering from it. But wow is some serious technology to be able to pump that far and avoid the transfer cost of trucking.

Right, changing weather and climate and particularly limited water and drought makes farming hard, and even not affordable anymore at some and many places. But who is going to feed the world than? We need all farmers and land and farming skills to feed the continuous growing population globally. Dont we?

Nice video love to see farming going on in different parts of the country. 4.5 miles that’s a good distance!! I’m a dairy farmer from NY and we have our own dragline equipment and have enough hose and pump to get 2 miles away luckily we have lots of land near our 2 pits. We usually pump around 10 million gallons a year.

Don't really need to apply any fertilizer in spring. Probably took em 4-5 hours to roll all the hose up and clean up if that's what you meant. I'd guess they covered about 300 acres maybe a little more

I’m guessing the sand will build up over time on your fields. Do you eventually have to remove it, or do you till it in the soil? Great video!
@hanksfarmvideos
@hanksfarmvideos 3 года назад
We apply it to our clay soils and till it. It actually helps the clay soils breathe more and improves the drainage. It would take a 100 years of doing this to see a noticeable effect in the soil

Are your buster pumps radio or internet controlled ? The dairies in this area next to one of my farms let the pits dry then spread. It cost me $8.50 / ton so I usually buy feedlot manure instead because it is about double the value. There is one dairy family here with two 40,000 cow campuses so they have to sling a lot of shit! On a lot of land.
