Radio channel 16.... Sécurité, Sécurité, Sécurité, Haulover Inlet Traffic, there are divers working below the Haulover Inlet Bridge on the south side dolphins, exercise caution when entering or exiting Haulover Inlet. Over
Robert Cardwell got it right. I also wouldn’t be flying a tiny diver down flag. Do they have a horn on their boat. Even a whistle. The yacht captain was an Ahole. Channels like this unfortunately promote stupidly on a mega yacht scale.
The Coast Guard, Florida wildlife, and local police marine units need to start zero tolerance enforcement here. Inspect every vessel for every violation when you have cause to stop them. Make arrests for boating while drunk. A few months of that and this inlet will be a completely different place.
I agree some wild west behavior will calm down once there is some enforcement and maritime enforcement of local laws. Make them wear flotation vests too!
@@kristy9337you don't need lifejackets when you're on a yacht, only need them onboard...when you go on a cruise ship do you wear a lifejacket the whole time ?..it's really about common sense and there is very little in today's world.
Thought that was the wrong type of boat to use for divers. They have to get round the back next to the prop while the driver tries to maintain position against a strong current. Looks like a 2 bit outfit to me.
I myself was watching the diver climb aboard using the ladder, next to an idling motor, while the boat operator is continually putting his hand on the shift lever.
We would never allow that growing up. Out all day, fatigued from the skiing and the sun, bunch of kids climbing and jumping in and out…”the rules” help keep you safe. Engine off until the area is cleared and all are accounted for!
Dosent mater. Everyone who has a boating license should know wat a diving flag means under the Marine flags you are supposed to know and heave too or give right of way to that operation. Its the whole purpose of the marine flag system is for boating operators who do not have radios. The captain of that boat should have known better and its his responsibility as one of the people on watch to notice and avoid it just like they would a standard bouy or other boats.
I was going to say the exact same thing. This looked unprofessional as could be. Tiny unofficial looking boat with, two guys wearing construction vests .....heck I would have expected a police escort, buoys, and the channel shut down temporarily
@@egomaniac247you two clearly have never dived before, some of the best free divers I know go out on shitty boats like that. Hell I use to dive on boats like that and I could out fish most people that day. Your both gilligan's 😂😂
2:16... Marine law states that you have to be wary and careful of people that have Flags like this up and stay clear of them if I remember correctly what I read
Those "engineers" are a bunch of clowns. They should have called for a police over watch to control the traffic and speed while they were working. Plus call out on channel 16 to any approaching vessels.
If the blue hulled yacht was following the normal speed limitations of the area, I'd be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they simply didn't see the tiny engineering boat and low dive flag. I mean, if you are that concerned about your divers then you need to have radio and at least another boat providing some flanking protection and warning other boats coming in. That's a high volume area that no one is going to be expecting to see divers at on any sort of common basis.
As I have said before I am really surprised there is not a 5mph rule for the inlets. It seems crazy that any boat much less a 90' yacht can proceed at speed through an inlet. Here in California most all inlets are 5mph.
What diver climbs a ladder next to an idling Outboard? That's crazy, you can see the boat being knocked around all it takes it one slip to go into gear
Pretty mediocre display of signal flags. Alpha flag should be in the vessel on a pole or radio antenna up high where it can be seen. Red/White diver flag should be on a pole on a float on a line behind the boat.
My son and I dive offshore in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. I use two dive flags 36"x 60" that are way bigger than regulation. Still, boats from anywhere come racing right up to us. People don't know or care about boating rules or the safety of others.
3:13 They're Mad because the boat 150 feet away could possibly hurt the divers. Never mind the spinning propeller that was 1 foot away from the divers boarding their own boat
There's no way the Harbor Master didn't know there would be divers in the channel on the bridge. The question is, did he contact harbor patrol to be present at the bridge to enforce a no/low wake zone? Do they have a dive flag banner to hang on the bridge? Do they have gyrating lights to hang off the bridge? It's just stupid. The yacht has a marine radio too, so do patrol vessels. FAIL [BTW, it's serious - industrial divers make BIG $ b/c they have a high degree of skills sets in an IDLH environment.]
The inspectors were right to be annoyed, however I must say their flags are rather small. Maybe the city of Miami should supply them with larger and clearer means of indication to boats coming into the bay from out at sea. It wouldn't take a minute to send someone with a big flag along with clear signage and install it at the entrance to the inlet whilst the work is in progress..
The yacht captain should be cited, but the operations crew should have had PD on site with lights going to draw more attention to the fact that something was going on at the site that was outside of normal operating conditions.
In the channel vessels within 100ft of diver down flags must be at idle speed. Not sure if one can be at idle with this current...need some speed for safe navigation
I certainly wouldn't work for Marlin engineering... unless I was terminally ill with a few weeks to live and my wife had a multi-million dollar life insurance policy on me.
I'm confused... After hitting the bridge right in front of the police, everybody just goes on their way like nothing happened..??? Are you allowed to hit bridges when ever you want, no problem ??
With newly punctured holes in their yacht, I seriously hope you were joking about not going on their way! You want them to sink too? Sure they headed to a dock or marina to access the damage and haul out of needed.
Sheel team six is on site.with a 90 mile current there going to need a dive propulsion unit!aqua man!🙃😏🙃the weed must be great down there.😁ill find out.
The level to which boat prices are artificially inflated never ceases to amaze me. In no reality should that dinghy of a catamaran cost a million dollars. The boat market is the greatest scam on all the semi affluent.
Start writing tickets...expensive tickets. Pull licences. As long as they can get away with ignoring speed limits, no wake zones, etc. they will continue to speed.
Hello, I'm a recreational scuba diver and this pissed me off to a degree that I don't think one can understand. Had anything gone wrong and those divers come up and hit that yacht, the chances of them dying is higher. There's a million things that could go wrong. Boaters; watch for dive flags. And divers; watch the surface for boats. Let's try and make the water a bit safer for everyone, there's a lot of hazards involved with both activities. Let's try and be smart.
Maritime rule of the road; Alpha flag flying means; I have divers in the water, keep well clear at low speed. That skipper can be charged for disobeying the rule.
Yes police should of been present and shut traffic like they did when the plane fell on the bridge last year. Also the engineers on the boat should of have horns and sounded 5 short burst to awake the captain to pay attention to a small vessel actually police should go and fine them for not slowing down.
"Does the engineering crew have a right to be upset with the yacht captain?" - I mean, if you need to ask... yes, of course yes they have a right. Dive flags are out, so there's divers in the water and you've got no fucking clue where they are, so you slow the fuck down until you've well cleared the dive location. I dunno man, but it seems it's time for USCG and various other agencies to start doing some more stringent checks at Haulover because the sheer amount of fuckwittery on display there is absolutely mindboggling.
I know they have a job to do but using that small of a boat with a flag which would be hard to see by any large vessel coming in or going out, I think it's a disaster waiting to happen.
The dive crew has to conduct their inspection at the slowest tide. I'm not sure when that is at failover, but where I live it goes dead stop. The capt. is suppose to know what each flag means and is suppose to slow down. From what is seen, the tide is going out their core the capt. could have slowed almost to a stop. He should have been chased down and find by the Marine police or Coast Guard. Those people in those yauhts think they don't have to obey the laws. They need to crack down at failover anyway.
Florida law: (4) Divers shall make reasonable efforts to stay within 100 feet of the divers-down flag on rivers, inlets, and navigation channels. Any person operating a vessel on a river, inlet, or navigation channel must make a reasonable effort to maintain a distance of at least 100 feet from any divers-down flag. (5) Divers must make reasonable efforts to stay within 300 feet of the divers-down flag on all waters other than rivers, inlets, and navigation channels. Any person operating a vessel on waters other than a river, inlet, or navigation channel must make a reasonable effort to maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from any divers-down flag. (6) Any vessel other than a law enforcement or rescue vessel that approaches within 100 feet of a divers-down flag on a river, inlet, or navigation channel, or within 300 feet of a divers-down flag on waters other than a river, inlet, or navigation channel, must proceed no faster than is necessary to maintain headway and steerageway.
The only reason they did an inspection is because of the bridge in Maryland. If that hadn't happened they would have never come out to inspect this. Total media stunt.
flag needs to be higher in the air. on a nav light, pole isnt high enough and the wind direction made the flag almost invisible to the yacht. boat driver has no idea where diver was while moving motor in and out of gear. why not do it at slack tide and have a police escort blocking all traffic till done. wrong in so many way on the dive team. lucky it didn't go bad
1. Cant see flags because guy standing in dive boat blocking view of flags on short pole.. 2. Marine Patrol Boats should have been there if there was bridge damage suspected. 3. Why does there not seem to be a speed limit?????
No doubt the yacht was wrong but what kind of rinky dink outfit is this on a 18 foot boat performing inspections in this busy channel. It says a lot to me seeing both divers get on the boat while the engine was running.
The speeds are supposed to be idle speed due to presence of Manatee. No one goes at idle speed. It is all on the harbour administration. Enforce idle speed or rip down the sign. Also the bridge is a choke point and prone to navigation errors, ergo the reason for the inspection. The engineers may be bridge experts but they were out of their depth in this scenario. The whole water borne inspection should have been administered by the harbour authorities and the channel should have been closed to all non inspection traffic. How not to reduce the hazards of a inspection in an extremely hazardous location.
You would think with all your prescribers views and comments would be stacking up like the waves today.I know it's only been a couple hours since this posted.Doing Great with Prescribers Too.🐰⛵⚓
Okay....most of the captains are getting dumber. The last two videos had yacht captains with their head up their butts then the second boat in each video (midnight express and an invincible) both stuff because they aren't even close to being on plane. 2 boats that should never stuff. As for the bridge inspection....they should have asked for assistance from the police, CG, or anyone to patrol the area. No wake at the bridge means 'no wake at the bridge'. Their small flags aren't going to be seen from the controls of a large vessel. Of course if they hadn't been traveling at war speed they might have actually noticed them.
no safety with that crew Why bother with the diver flag the boat looked overloaded no Radio looked like engine running when divers boarded No lights or day marker showing their class or that working beside the diver flag
get a bigger dive flag and have bouys for one. Most boaters are not gonna expect divers at a busy inlet. That boat looks like an average everyday boat. Not one for official bridge inspections. Most engineers are out of place outside the office.
