In NC we have plenty of them. They don't leave. On our property I can call them in, and they hangout on our flag poles. They have acres of trees , to continue to reproduce, and ive even had one of my favorites bring their babies in close enough for me to see. I'm guessing in Canada, they migrate? Here they do not. They don't travel to far from their home.

Just had one hoot a few houses away and he flew over above me and landed in tree then a few min later the hoot hoot ...It was awesome I have heard this owl for 10 plus year and I'm pretty sure it's the same one since they have a territory..

Very cool! They are super territorial even when they're not nesting. Down south the barred owls should be starting to court soon!

Barred owl's famous call: Who cooks for who? Who Cooks for you all
@KKk-g3n

I hear these glorious sounds in my neighbors yard about 1-3 am. When I camt sleep. I hear them often in snow storms. Like a owl chorus of the bared owls great horned owl . They are so hypnotic and beautiful in the unseen blurred distance of trees and snow in upper NY Born in a city town..I had no idea what this sound was... They bring me such joy...up alone at night with them..an unheard nocturnal world oblivious by the sleeping masses. I was drawn to Owls as a child As as an adult...I have be blessed to hear them and be part of their dark secretive worlds. Thank you for this fantastic video that taught me about my nocturnal friends and neighbors.

I would too! Are you a conductor/engineer? Cause stopping in your tracks to hear barred owls over a train is impressive, but they I think owls shouldn’t be barred from rail travel though. ‘Owl Shaming’ is a thing now🦉They would keep the rat population down.

I live in NC and am fortunate to have an easement at the back of my property with a small creek. There is a wonderful old growth forest that is protected by the easement. I built a barred owl roost and placed it on a large tree about 25 feet over the creek. Barred Owls have been raising their brood there for four years now. Last year a new pair came in and raised three owlets. The female normally goes into the roost around the first of the year and about a month later the eggs are laid. They are here about three to four months in total. It has been a fun relationship and I have seen some spectacular displays. Watched the male drive off a red tailed hawk that got to close once. Have stood within five feet of a young owlet after it left the roost. Both parents watched me and allowed me to get close because they know me and realize I am not a threat. Barred Owls are very cool and are welcome here as long as I am!

Interesting that this doc is up around the same time we've noticed one on the property here on the Niagara Escarpment, perfect environment for them since it's along a protected old growth forest, with wet openings. This particular one isn't shy around humans and ignores me while outside working and totally ignores the several crow's swooping down on her. Shes been getting a crow a day lately, definitely claiming territory and feeding young. Thanks for this!
