I heard him tell the story about the song in Lisbon years ago…he was telephone selling( the blower is a phone ). He met a voice that captured his imagination. They called daily and all of a sudden she disappeared. Turns out she was a school girl home for the summer and went back to school. What a great lyricist. That is the story I heard from the mouth of the legend
I don't know if you've ever heard of or reacted to The Pogues before, an Anglo-Irish band led by the genius songwriter Shane MacGowan. The superb A Night in Soho, Summer in Siam or their version of Dirty Old Town, will be stuck in your heads for a while.
I have teared multiple times listening to his live performance and was fortunate to actually get a chance to watch him in person. He’s such an incredible and breathtaking live performer
Lisa Hannigan's solo work is really beautiful, and she has a whole history with Damien Rice you may want to look up. They were musical parners for a while before they split.
Just seen him live in Manchester. He is absolutely brilliant, you must listen to his album O,1st one. Lisa and him were partners then too, unfortunately they are no longer together and it has taken a long time for him to get over the break up. She is a great artist in her own right now. Also have her albums, you should take a listen, amazing artist. Damian is like a vessel for music live, it just takes over him. He plays the piano and guitar and writes the songs. O is an album I would choose in my top 10.
Something about hearing this made me think of the song 'Wires' by the band 'Athlete'. If you guys haven't heard it then it's well worth a listen. It's about lead singer Joel Pott's emotional journey after his newborn daughter fell ill and was rushed into ICU. It's very heartfelt, as you might expect.
So many good Irish artists in every genre right now. Could I suggest Mick Flannery & Susan O'Neill's 'Baby Talk', CMAT's 'I Don't Really Care For You', 'The Carthaginians' by Telefís, Pillow Queens 'No Good Woman' or Bell X1's 'Rocky Took a Lover'? Lisa O'Neill, Lisa Hannigan, The Gloaming and Lankum are all well worth a listen IMHO.

Absolutely godlike song; Damien Rice is just amazing (as is Lisa Hannigan, of course!) I would recommend you try Elbow's "Fugitive Motel" for another song in the same "style" (unless you already have... apologies if so!)
Metaphors here are incredible, but it's also a great story on its face. A young Irishman learning a truly Irish trade, yet strictly taken aback by his master's daughter. Modern day poetry at it's best.
Have a listen to another Irish singer Ciaran Lavery or Luke Sital-Singh for a decent acoustic set. Seen both together and both on separate occasions Live. Luke is touring the States at the moment
Please could you check out inhaler and Fontaines dc. Both irish. Btw closer stars Natalie Portman and Clive Owen or Clive Warren if you're Karl pilkington
Have a listen to Lisa Hannigan, with Loah...singing UNDERTOW. I've read that Lisa got voted, The Most Beautiful Voice In Ireland. Loah is sensational too.
Also Check out Cork band The Fatima Mansions song 1000%, sadly singer Cathal Coughlan passed away last year. Legendary British DJ John Peel once said he could listen to him sing the phone book
So if I drink, I listen to reactions. Y’all nailed it, but that sign off was killer. Subbing, keep with Damien Rice, volcano my fav. Check out some Manchester Orchestra, if you haven’t.
Would love to see you react to the duet of Cian Ducrot and Ella Henderson called All For You Cian is from my home county of Cork and Ella is from the UK
The object of his obsession here is Lisa Hannigan who, since her time with Damien, has outshone him. Check her out sometime. She is a great singer/songwriter.
tip of the iceberg for damien rice....first 2 albums was a deep dive into dark singer/songwriter melodies...lisa hannigan is absolutely incredible and has a career apart from damien rice...not a good seperation
