@@beclimbing-befuller33 Very impressive warm ups indeed ! If I try this, I would probably end up injured haha. Once I pulled my back doing some jumping jacks ...
The whole concept of this video was such a good idea - exactly what I was looking for as I start again after the big covid break. Your sessions with Be have been extremely helpful, thank you both!
Be climbs beautifully, super inspiring to see her techniques being used on more challenging climbs. I also loved the discussion on the mental aspect of climbing. Again, thank you for the quality content, Hannah!
It is so important and refreshing to see that even accomplished pros can “fail” and learn from their mistakes on the go. These kinds of videos are way more useful than the ones where you just see ppl flashing through things with flawless technique like it’s not big deal. The above applies for any learning material from bouldering to chopping vegetables (?) Thanks for keeping this channel so humble ❤️
Wow, thanks very much! Really means a lot to me. Luckily, I’m not capable of flashing through things with flawless technique, so the channel will remain humble hehe!
That's exactly how I feel too! I can relate to a video so much more when I see all the attempts and falls. And that way I'm also able to tell where the crux of a problem is or how good or bad the holds really are, which is kind of difficult to see on video
After many years I found my courage to start indoor climbing as a new sport, and your channel did help me a lot pursuing this dream of mine. I am really thankful for your work! seeing so many talented female climbers give me strength and the will to progress while enjoying all parts of failing an trying again. Hope you will keep on doing this channel for many many years :)
Thank you so much for this lovely comment Christina. I’m really glad that you’ve found climbing and are loving it so much. It’s a really wonderful sport. 😊
This was truly inspiring and insightful to watch. As a person who believes in a growth mindset, seeing Coach Be smile, laugh and say "that's a fun one" after attempting difficult climbs is truly motivating and inspiring. I'm a fairly new climber (4 months now into climbing now) and I find it so helpful to watch videos like this from professionals who always find ways to never give up and keep going, which is so important in any sport, but I especially find it necessary in bouldering. Thank you both for creating this video, I've learnt a lot about new techniques and the importance of warm ups! I will definitely be applying Coach Be's warm up drills and technique training when I climb next!
She is so amazingly articulate and organized with the flow of her coaching while exerting so much energy. Like she isn’t saying “hmm what should we do next” she is just 100%dialed in and so extremely well spoken whilst being so focused physically.
I could watch Be coaching videos all day I swear. I wish my gym had autobelays so I could drill snappy movement on toprope. I also have aphantasia (no visualization whatsoever) so I empathize with her on not being able to see myself doing moves in abstract.
Coach Be's obviously has her nutrition dialed in in additon to her excellent strength and technique. Do you think you could get her to talk about her nutrition philosophy? I always hear "you can't out train a bad diet" and I know it's true but I still have trouble following the rules.
I’ve quickly become an intermediate climber in less than a year and have begun to project V6/V7 problems - I’ve mostly been learning techniques from channels like you and Magnus; watching you work with Be and now watching her drills and projecting was EVERYTHING I needed right now! I can manage to wiggle my way past a couple techniques on my own, but watching such a graceful climber perform these skills feels directly applicable to a handful of problems I am currently battling and will definitely prove very useful. Thanks for such great quality, always 🙏🏼
23:10 as someone with aphantasia, visualization is absolutely the most difficult thing in climbing for me. I’m hoping I can learn to on-sight as route reading from the ground is usually too much for me to wrap my head around.
I can't tell you how transformative these videos have been- thank you both so much! Be is phenomenal. Generating tension in glutes has been a game changer, I just had a question for Be- does she also consciously engage shoulders/ scapula/back whilst climbing and if so what cues does she use?
thank you for your kind words. Absolutely - scapula shrugs are an important part of every warm up to ensure the shoulders and back are strong and ready to engage. It is a lot to consciously think about shoulders and glutes whilst climbing but they are both important cues to focus on during warm up movement drills so they become autonomous when climbing
Could you do a video for short climbers? :) I'm 5' and always jealous of my partner's reach. I know that I need to improve dyno ... but find that really intimidating haha
I love your coach videos, they always have a great way of explaining their mental or physical process. Really interesting, though I have to admit... I will, even if I climb hard routes, try to brute force it xD
Really great to hear you like them! I’m definitely guilty of just brute forcing most climbs, I feel I have so much to learn in technical / mental approach
It’s always such a joy listening to her wonderful explanations and you two together are so inspiring for me. As a beginner I learned so much and try different things in my sessions, without loosing the joy.
Thank you so much for another amazing video! I'm a new climber from NZ, and love watching your videos. I watched your earlier video with Be, and was so impressed by her incredible coaching that I booked a session with her when I visited the UK last month! She is the most incredible teacher, and explains concepts so simply and clearly. We would love to have coaches like Be here in NZ, but we have the next best thing, being able to watch her coaching sessions with you! Thanks again for the amazing work, keep up the awesome climbing (I saw you climbing Everest in the Climb Free fundraising at Volume 1- I was so inspired and I donated to the amazing cause, but I was too shy to say hello!) let me know if you or Be are ever in NZ and want to climb, we'd love to have you!
I never heard someone talking about visualizing yourself doing the technique in sports. Visualizing is something I do naturally for everything I do, whether if it is physical or require using my brain.
Visualization is also called "mind's eye" and while it's uncommon, it isn't rare to find people who simply do not have mind's eye and cannot visualize things in their head. For example some people cannot picture an apple in their mind when asked to despite knowing what an apple is and being able to recognize an apple when they see one.
There's actually term for the inability to form mental images - aphantasia. If I read a book, I involuntarily 'see' the events described. People with aphantasia don't.
Amazing video Hannah. I'm pausing the video before each move Be makes and imagining what I would do. It's really eye opening when I see her use a much more efficient technique than what I pictured how the next move would go. Her use of static inside flags vs where I would go with a more dynamic deadpoint is something I need to learn.
she`s not only an amazing climber a super nice person, she`s also so brave to let us see the moments where she has to try several times or when she in the end doesn`t succeed in the way she may wished. So humbling and inspiring to see her. Chapeau :)
I feel so much better seeing that even someone as skilled as coach Be needs to drop down and take time to lean a new climb. I always feel so embarrassed when I have to drop after the first couple of hand holds, but I guess it really is just part of the process
It really is! Every climber has to spend a little while reading the climb and figuring out the way that works for them. It’s all part of the fun of climbing - it’s supposed to be a puzzle to solve and falling off is how we learn how to solve the puzzle best! ☺️
That's one heck of a warm-up. My gym is definitely lacking that tech board, which makes replication a little tricky. Still good practices to get you warm for a multi-hour session
This is a really cool and insightful video, so many little nuggets to take away - really enjoyed that!! Thank you Hannah and Be for putting that together
I'm really impressed by Be's style, she has so much flow. Very heavily rooted in great techniques, seamlessly switching between static and dynamic movement as is most efficient for her. One day I hope to be able to climb even half that hard. I've been working on my triangle theory somewhat, I had been thinking of it as something to do to learn better technique, but it's really interesting seeing it as something to do every time to have good movements deeply ingrained in the muscle memory. I tend to climb pretty statically, and I've really been struggling trying to work towards learning dynamic movement in climbing. Between Be's drills and Louis's drills from your earlier video, I have some good idea of where to start intentionally working on learning that. Plus those mountain climber pushes look insane! So much to learn and to take inspiration from here, thank you for this amazing video!
at 26.19 I am demonstrating not leaning back on your wrists and restricting blood flow from the fore arms - sitting down to rest between problems is fine (better to move around though) just don't lock off or stretch out your forearms - it hinders recovery
@@beclimbing-befuller33 WOW!!! Coach BE!!! I used to lean back when I want to watch people on the wall or to figure out my route while resting. I leave a "!" because I want to remind myself, haha Hope to see you more after you settle down in N.Z.
I love Coach Be!!! Loved seeing her in action on the wall. So strong! 💪🏼These technique tip videos with her are so valuable and helpful and I will be using them in my own climbing. Thank you for this video!
total total beginner here, been to the wall only three times so far, but last time chanting "feet hips hands" to myself helped me send my first overhang problem ✊🏼 🙏🏼
Finally got a problem that was bugging the heck out of me because I wasn't getting the heel hook right. Thank you for this video! Be's explanation helped me understand what I was doing wrong.
Great video from you both! Was surprised to hear that Be used to struggle with flexibility, and would love to hear more about how she developed this for her climbing!
Absolutely superb video. I love watching Be climb as I climb in a very similar way but no where near her level. A climbing session with her would be so cool 😊
This is such a great presentation! You're both so chill and in touch, Be is an amazing instructor, I LOVE that you had no music dubbed over and let us just feel the session in the gym, your camerawork is on point and great questions and answers. I'll watch this video several times, for sure. It's a gem. Subscribed and stoked to check out more of what you've got.
I love seeing Be climb, i feel like so much of climbing youtube is male dominated and it's often unhelpful as a short woman their beta can only be so transferable, seeing the way Be climbs and the techniques she uses is so great!
Thank you for the vid - amazing climbing - could you do separate vid on yoga sun salutation/ yoga that's good for climbing and the warm up - struggling to warm up properly as beginner. thank you :)
Not talked about but take 3-5 minute breaks between tries when bouldering. Also, breath through your nose as much as possible, and if you cannot, youre amped up, which isnt bad, but certainly dont go for another attempt. Nose breathing is the most free performance gain.
