Rediscover the accuracy, convenience, and lightweight of the grand old peep sight and Patridge post combination. GunBlue will show you what shooting masters back in the day knew about this time honored, reliable, rugged, weatherproof, lightning fast and accurate sighting system that the United States Armed Forces has used for combat rifles around the world under all conditions since World War II. It's still the best for most woods hunters, and is certainly one of the fastest for running game of all kinds, from deer to coyotes, and squirrels to rabbits. See why you might just decide to put away those target obscuring dots and bulky, weather-prone scopes, take a pound or more off your rifle, get that cheek down, and get intimate with your gun stock like never before. Peep sights are a blast and offer world of shooting fun!

Last year I was visiting friends in Reno, NV and their teenage son was looking to buy a rifle. I went with them to shop for it and while they were looking I spotted a rifle on the rack that I pointed out to them. It was a Springfield 03 that had been sporterized with a very fine target stock and a Williams peep sight. The barrel had been left alone and it still had the GI Patridge sight. They ended up buying it for the boy and I told them that if they ever sold it, I would buy it. I sent a nice M1907 sling to them as well. Love the old rifles.

Thank you for making a video on whats becoming a lost art in the shooting community! I have never shot or hunted with a scope-just enjoy my iron sights. Have encouraged some friends to try shooting without optics-most learned to shoot a 22 that way. Will use this video to encourage them. I am not a expert shooter-average at best-but fun to show what can be done with peep sights. Use my old M1 to show that 200 yd accurate shots can be made without optics-but explained I actually made 600 yard ones in CMP service rifle completion some years ago.I am so glad I found your channel for so many educational videos!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself! When I discovered the GI-type peep sight it was love at first sight. I have since tried several compact scopes and red dots over the years, but my middle-aged eyes can't seem to adapt to them. It's just natural to "put my nose on the charging handle" and focus on my front post! Peace sir.

I love that model 99 you have there! No wonder it was so popular amongst deer hunters. I'd say it could take an elk within 250 yards. That bird dog-Benny is a good lookin' dog. I used to quail hunt back in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's with English setters, but now quail numbers are simply so low, it's not even worth it anymore. My last Setter ("Hank") died sleeping in his bed last summer. Dogs can be such great friends because of their unconditional loyalty, and it does my heart good to see the companionship you have with yours. God bless you and Benny.

Great video, I love my peep sights and my mini 14. I learned peep sights courtesy of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children summer camp. My first issue was an M16-A1 with probably 10,000 rounds through it before me, I cherish the memory of shooting 500 yards with that rifle. At 500 a 10 inch spotter is used to mark impacts and usually, after the first shot I would put the remaining rounds into the spotter. No superwambadine 16 or 24X scope, just peep sights.

I would have liked this video a hundred times if possible. Last year, after watching your open or non optic sight video, I did a bit of a walk down memory lane a added up the amount of game (deer and hogs) that I had killed farther than 150 yards. One. I killed one doe at a greater distance and it was out past 250. I had purchased a couple 45-70 lever guns and a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag. After installing Williams peep sights, I can never go back to optics. However the biggest surprise has been my 1964 Remington ADL in 30-06. I placed a Williams WGRS peep at the receiver and a 1/16 bead on the front. I painted the bead white and this rifle which had been my father’s deer rifle for decades has a new lease on life. I shot it again yesterday and three rounds within 1.5” that hit about an inch and a half high at 100 yards. From a rested position I can keep everything within an 8 inch circle out to 225 yards. And the way the rifle carries now is like an extension of me. Thanks for your videos. I have rekindled my passion for hunting vs just filling the freezer which is what my hunting had become over the last few years.

Got to install and test out Williams Peep sights on my Ruger American .22lr and wow, as a newb, I got much better results on paper vs. the factory open sights at 15 and 50 yards. I'm positive the gun is capable of a lot better than me at this time, so I will keep practicing. To give an example, best I managed thus far was about a 6-8" group with the factory sight at 50 yards. This time I was most definitely less than 6" and that's with some crazy winds blowing towards 5 o'clock. I'm hoping hoping to be even better once I get new glasses (can't quite get the clearest focus on the front sight or target at that range).

thanks for another great video. I've seen just about all of them and it's good to see you out shooting. I was sent sights from Trueshottechnologies that are what they call Milsights for review. I'm not real happy with the stock sights on my Mini 14 ranch rifle. it's a 583 series, relative new. the wing style front sights for whatever reason are not easy on my eyes. if you have the time I would appreciate your opinion on the sights I was sent before I swap them out.. oh yeah...Love that Savage. actually anything levergun. that's my favorite kind of rifle. I think I got enamored with them since I was a kid watching Chuck Conners on TV in " The Rifleman " funny watching the show finally realizing that his rifle did not ever eject any brass. .;)

I enjoy the sharing of your knowledge and no-nonsense facts about calibers, shooting gun care. I would like to know your opinion on parkerizing and ceracoating on rifles. Thanks again. I'm a devoted viewer. God bless.
@GunBlue490
@GunBlue490 6 лет назад
Robert Rich Both finishes are well proven. Parkerizing is a very old method of phosphating that has been used on military arms for many decades, and produces a greenish gray finish that holds oil well. Ceracote is an applied finish that has great rust resistance, but has a thickness. I don't consider either very attractive compared to traditional blued finishes, but are practical for the gun requiring such protection. You are the best judge, as finishes are entirely subjective.

Big fan, Gunblue! As a world expert on, and big booster of, the Mini 14, what diameter of aftermarket gas bushing do you have mounted on that Mini? I like my rifles a little on the heavily-gassed side for reliability, but I have gathered that the Ruger .085" is WAY too big (especially since they use the same size on the Mini 30, which fires a cartridge of significantly lower pressure), and that a reduced port will still guarantee complete reliability. I just got a Mini (the exact same model you have there with a 584 prefix), and am thinking of trying the .045" bushing. What say you?
