I go to sleep listening to Pastor Begg, and I wake up listening to him too. The truth he delivers, the humor and his Scottish accent makes for a good listen. Praise God for his ministry.
A compassionate and courageous sermon. More applicable today than when this was recorded. Even public policy is included in "bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ".
Watching this in July, 2020 in the midst of chaotic times around the world. There is or was a time (depending on when you read this message) that a 6 block portion of downtown Seattle was declared an “autonomous zone” by BLM/ANTIFA.... A total declaration of anarchy on display. I watched coverage of the unfolding circumstances regularly. Sadly, it wasn’t until coming across this sermon that I realized how much the people caught up in all that need my prayers. It’s not just the residents or business owners who need my prayers, but followers of BLM/ANTIFA. Sure, I’ve been praying that peace would be restored in our nation, but what is it if things “go back to normal” and folks still don’t have peace (Jesus) in their hearts. My point is, we have people caught up in the SJW (social justice warrior) cult, but don’t know the Lord. I HATE what they are doing to my country and the influence they are having in other countries; but they need to see and experience the love of Christ. Let me just make it clear that I still think these folks (who want to destroy our country) need to be put in jail. However, at the end of the day these are souls at stake facing utter and eternal damnation in hell. I would also like to say that anyone professing to be a Christian needs to pray (Psalm 139) Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts: And see if there be any way of wickedness in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Sometimes we think that because we are on the right side of a political movement or are steeped in church culture that we’re above it all or better than someone outside this circle (or whatever your circle is). But truth is, if it had not been for the Lord on my side... where would I be? Just as I pray that BLM/ ANTIFA supporters find Christ in these crazy times; I pray that Democratic people, Republicans, white, black, brown, yellow, etc people who don’t know Jesus would humble themselves before Him. And I pray that Christians (the true church body) would hold fast to truth with our words and action. As Pastor Allistar gave the example, is it really showing the love of Christ when we hold up signs like “I love God, I love guns”. Of course our walk in the faith is not about perfection, but we need to be headed in the right direction. Lord, please help us that say we follow you, open the mirror of your word so that you can guide our direction. And help us be ready to give an answer to those that I ask about the hope we cling to which is our salvation through Christ Jesus alone. Amen 🙏🏾❤️✝️
Masterfully done. Another 2 am Alistair class. Humorous, eloquent, poignant, uniquely Begg. Oh how I hope & pray you've watched "The Chosen" by now. I can't wait for you to see how we handled the Good Samaritan story. Blessings to you & yours.
Lord God! I pray that Christians humble themselves before His mighty throne and come back to the heart of Christ and revival come all over the world. Fill them with your Holy Spirit that fruit may be produced! And oh precious Lord! Begin with me!
God is greater than my sin and He will cleanse is with the blood of Jesus! We need to look to live like Christ because that is what our Father has called us to do.
Oh please. Why the crocodile tears over a notorious atheist? You talk of eternal hell fire in one breath and then disparage those who warn of that destiny in the next. It is schizophrenic. So which is it?

Customs and norms change over time and have nothing whatsoever to do with faith or Scripture. Wearing a hat is a perfect example. Why cling to outdated customs and conflate them with obedience to God? Really, it is just an aversion to change and has nothing whatsoever to do with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Peace and blessings to all, atheist or believer, conservative or liberal, Catholic or Protestant.
Does giving to substance abusers who consistently beg and steal from you qualify in the verse on giving to those who ask of you or is this partaking in their demise/evil? Where is wisdom on this?(This is my son and brother I am talking about.)
Susanna, I'm sorry for you and this dilemma you face. I can't even imagine the difficulties you're going through and the struggle to define what's truly "helpful" for your son. Nobody online, including other Believers, should or could offer specific advice IMO. Please seek one-on-one guidance from your pastor or other elder in your church, they'd know the situation and your longing heart much better. May God bless you and keep you close. 💗
Susanna, I'm so sorry to hear of what you face, having sons myself. Wisdom and experience teach us we should not give what the addicted ask for to gratify their addiction. And I'm certain doing that isn't being merciful, and that isn't what mr. Begg meant. Scripture along with prayer will give you the wisdom how to Godly deal with your son and brother's needs. One thing I learned from my own mistake is that a firm refusal to enable an addiction can be express with kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, and especially without harsh condemnation. There is mercy in that kind of reply.
I'm also with Sandi216. Seeking out godly advice from godly elders (their lives match their teaching) along with prayer and Script are helpful. Praying for comfort and help for you and godly conviction for them.
I feel like you know the answer, you just arent ok with it. I wouldnt look at it as a forever situation, whatever God is telling you, theres no way you can see that far, but He can. So just accept whatever His instructions are FOR NOW. You can still hope and pray things will get better. For all you know, you may be interrupting their walk with Jesus. Come to Jesus moments never involve other people bailing us out every time.
He talked about hat wearing from 37:24 to 37:54. Anybody want to clarify? I usually wear my hat wherever I am. Should I not, or was that some kind of sarcasm? I don't get it.
abesabre may be late, but he’s speaking on wearing a hat/cap indoors. As men we are supposed to remove our hats/caps before we walk through the doorway
For a man, a hat has no purpose indoors. The man in his church wearing a golf hat should have known better. Looks like he is taking a break from golfing rather than dedicating time to worship and the sermon. It is unfitting. It's like wearing pajamas to school. A way to thumb your nose at God and others.
Im wondering if the difference is self defense vs aggression. Or in the extreme, would Jesus defend Himself from assault? Doesnt seem like He would. Hard for me to accept and model bc our nature is self preservation of course. Theres a scene in the end of Othello with Laurence Fishburne where he is smothering Desdemona and she starts to fight back then stops and instead uses her last efforts to gently brush his face with her hand as if to say I love you, I dont understand why this is happening but I forgive you. Its stuck with me for almost decades, very powerful in its unexpectedness. Much like the coming of Jesus was ❤️🙏
I'm not against gun control, but here in Australia, where guns are rare, we have far less murders than in the US. I assume it's the same for rape. Conroy had a good point, too.
