I believe his point was that Wenger is relying on outdated tactics from 20 years ago, when the game has changed a lot and managers/tactics have evolved in style, so Wenger's ideas are not efficient anymore.
Disclaimer: long, only for those really interested: At this point it's very clear. We need a new start, a breeze of fresh air at the club. I'm thinking of Serri, Ancelotti, Tuchel etc. as new managers. They are more or less realistic targets. I would be totally amazed if someone like Simeone or someone of that caliber would come but that's more unrealistic. I would also be fine with the likes of Henry or Viera etc. as they breath Arsenal and from what I think have a more passionate and aggressiv mindset than Wenger which I like. It would also just give the sense of a "new Arsenal" that starts over and wants to attack rather than the same-old same-old thing where everyone at the club says we want to win everything but their actions speak otherwise year after year. This could give a mental boost to the team (could also end up like United after Fergie left though; but it's worth the risk as we could see from the last few years, change is inevitable at this point if we want to progress as a club). Anyways like you saw against City (and numerous other games) what Arsenal is missing is for one the right winning mentality plus what's even more important is a more aggressiv mindset. What I mean by that is that right now if you look at the Arsenal games all of the midfield (from Xhaka to Özil) and both full backs set up in a handball type way and pass the ball sideways with no penetration at all. No one in the front is moving, they just jog around casually and that's insanely easy to defend. Then they try to pass it through the narrowest space which looks amazing when it works but 95% of the time it just doesn't... We then get caught in a counter as, as I said, besides the two CBs everyone is around the box. So in summary: Up front we have no drive towards the goal and don't have a matchplan of how to break down defenses and in the back we're all over the place and the CBs are mostly on their own on the back foot against 2-4 attackers. No wonder we lose so many games...
Cleyman great points mate. Fully agree. Wenger’s attacking style is predictable and as a result, like you say, easy to defend against. Especially considering Aubameyang’s pace there needs to be a complete rethink in attacking tactics. Wenger can’t do that, we need someone new
Aside from the winning mentality, the formation wenger put on the field is what i think cost arsenal the title too. Back three, was he mad? All of us know city will have the ball most of the time, playing back three means the wingbacks need to defend too. We also know ozil wont defend, hence city outrun the midfield, hence both him and auba didnt get the support needed up front. There was nothing arsenal can do except running around like headless chicken. Watch what liverpool and wigan did, they put back four, two defensive midfield, and wide player that would sprint up everytime they had chances.
The one word to describe Wenger right now is outdated. It's so sad to just look at him like this after all the great times in the past. Every day he stays in this club is gradually tarnishing his name in football
Remember when nobody through Liverpool would finish top 4? Every prediction had Liverpool finishing at 6th or 5th and that was even when Liverpool managed to keep coutinho, for the time being at least.
Kyle walker at Manchester city. 7 months one trophy. Kyle walker at Tottenham. 7 years 0 trophies. They said Kyle walker was "too much" they said "his worse than Trippier" these days trippier is on the bench with Aurier starting over him😂😂
Lmao I’m a spurs fan obviously trippier isn’t better, but he’s good and so is aurier and they’re developing and we couldn’t keep him but happy he’s won something
Who got you knocked out of the FA cup again? Does Kyle Walker turn into 11 players and carry you? How much money did you pay? Who developed Kyle Walker?
Hahahaha Vincent Kompany Sergio Augero at Manchester Arab fc for last 8 years Seen 9 billion spent on the club since 2009 and still never appeared in a major European cup final Hahahaha what a waste of two top players careers 😂😂😂
Joey 11 dont you feel bad for arsenal, cause i do tho i dont support them. In the beginning its funny having a banter about wenger and stuff, but now they are a walking joke.
no DDG you hav it wrong way round. saf left us as prem champs and by shitness or ego put a average moyes in charge and bought noone and sacked backroom staff but arsenal hhav go shit wiv wenger for now worst ever but cant be worse than 6thh by miles so anyone can level out at 6th and rebuild but it wont be same as man utd
manchester city are the best team in the country so there's no shame in losing to them but the lack of professionalism and effort in a cup final from the players is genuinely disappointing, most of them didn’t even bother to turn up! They should look at themselves and be ashamed and until we get rid of board and manager nothing is going to change at our once great football club! 😔
Mujeeb Ahmed Arsenal need to get rid of that shit owner and fire everyone and get brand new board members. Sack Wenger and sell the dead wood in the club like Mertesacker, Cazorla etc
Ousmane Dembele mertesacker is leaving and cazorla wont be around for long anyways.. its players such as mustafi and xhaka im looking at to get rid of them!
Wenger began shifting his whole squad ethos when he uncovered the talent of Fabregas and it almost perfectly, unfortunately for Arsenal, coincided with most/all the players you would/could deem "bastards" retired/were sold. The squad moved away from being talented yet tough, to being developed around a clear passing style with players who didn't have a nasty streak but had a petulant nature to them despite clear technical abilities. Thus a theme of Arsenal being bullied by sides slowly developed and has since never been addressed by just signing a talented dominant outright bastard to compliment technically gifted teammates.
Shaq Oneill Um Chelsea won the PL last year and Liverpool is in the Champjons league and looks good to be top 4 again, while Arsenal is Europa league, stupid comment.
Thierry would be a good choice. He is an experienced player with adequate knowledge of the club and is already considered a legend. Additionally, he has played in Barcelona a club well known for good tactics as well. He's also doing his coaching badges and getting experience with the Belgium National Team. So #thierryin
What do you mean Wilshere didn't play well?? "he put in 100%", "he wanted to win" and he ran a lot so surely that means he was great, that's all that matters right?!
Given all that wenger has done for the club, he has earned the right to see out his current contract and go on his own terms, yes the team aren’t performing to the same standards as previous incarnations of the team but it’s always going to be difficult to match those same standards of teams like “the invincibles” but the gunners will come good in the end
Olivia is like that intern who has to do all the shit work. i kinda feel sorry for especially if Zac Djellab is inside!! (no hard feelings Zac u are amazing keep up the good work)
Zac's attempted arguement about the price of City's defense vs the price of Arsenal's is such a diluted, spoiled Abramovich Era Chelsea fan's opinion, and I'm so happy Pato slagged him off. Good squads arent just about money spent, theybare about structure and development. To simply think "Oh you are a bad unit because your opponent paid more for their players" is ridiculous! If he went about it by pointing out that the price tag vs output of the players, such as Mustafi or Chambers, is unacceptable then ok I'm fine and would be in agreement with him. Also the arguement that Pep has spent more money in 20+ months than Wenger has in his 21+ years is a stupid one as well. The price tag of players for much of Arsene's career vs that of current day is the reason for the total spent for Pep. Plus the fact that Pep has the backing of Mansoor, and his unlimited budget, is a major factor. Arsene doesn't have the financial backing of Kroenke, he has the financial back of Arsenal Football Club as a company and the bank account that the club manages, not Stan's multi-billion dollar net worth and war chest of his wife's McDonald's inheritance.
Draw would have been a fair result in the Man Utd Chelsea game. We played well enough to merit a draw. To be fair, we have won many games which we didn't deserve to and de Gea didn't really made a top class save
Arsenal's only hope is the Europa League. Meanwhile, their next opponent AC Milan is unbeaten in the past 12 games, including wins against Lazio, Inter and Roma.
Arsenal should go after Thomas Tuchel or Marcelo Bielsa or how about Marco Silva? Knowing the management they'll either stick with Wenger to save money or bring in an inexperienced coach or old coach like Harry Redknapp, Hodgson,Alan Pardew(lol) etc.
I don't think Wenger watched the same game as everyone else ....everyone could see the arsenal players gave up 1-0 down and even before that they just didn't show much and city didn't have to play well which they didn't but they still had to much for arsenal...
I question whether our previous successes are actually from Arsene Wenger and whether they were actually from the backroom staff that we had which have now left the team. Is it his Legacy his destroying or there's?
darkghostgaming s22 Simeone would be actively taking a step back coming to Arsenal, even Ancelloti is a stretch considering Arsenal might not even make Europa league lol youd be lucky to end with Marco Silva.
Matthew Goodwin Not bad at all but thats the reality Arsenal has to face, too many Gunners fans are still living in 2005. Like to actually think Simeone would leave Athletico Madrid for Arsenal is comical.
Yeah you have a point, i just dont think marco silva is bad, sure hes better for a mid-table side not arsenal, but as an arsenal fan, i think he would probably be better than wenger currently is
I think City will lose out in either quarter-final or semi-final of Champion League (depends on who they're up against) If lucky (or the game is going their way), they might reach final... Do hope for a Manchester Derby Final. That'd be intense.
