It is valid for the Amazon US, UK, CA and DE and valid for 24-color and 48-color set!

*both sets include a mixed squirrel/nylon hair brush. The brush is good quality but you may with to avoid it if you avoid fur.

I am 99.9% sure that these are Superior Master Level Watercolors. I don't think all of the pigment info is accurate
The text in the listing says "synthetic brush" but it is a mixed fiber brush containing squirrel hair.
Bottom line: As far as white labeled watercolor goes this is one of my favorites. I review a lot of watercolor and most of the budget brands fall under 6 manufactured and Superior is one of the best. That said you may already have this paint from another brand so double check before buying. It's just a anther reason to use what you have!

If someone can uncover the origin of these paints, it's you. I am no longer buying sets where open stock is not an option, so these are out. It's always a pleasure to listen to you and watch you navigate through this review. Thanks for putting this together, Lindsay!

Why not -just fill an empty pan with a professional tube paint (upgrade slowly).

@@Rainne3 I could. But I now prefer good quality brands where I can pick and choose the colours I really want. I have too many budget sets with too many colours I end up not using. I am now better at colour mixing, so I can do a lot with fewer and better quality paints. That's what works better for me and I can understand when other people find other options acceptable.

So I paused the video once you brought out the Art Whale set and checked Amazon Canada, and lo and behold, the Lightwish set is actually cheaper on Amazon Canada than Art Whale! Just thought I’d share this in case anyone is interested. 😊

Hullo Lindsay, as well as her viewers! I have not found a more knowledgeable person who knows the budget art brands better than Lindsay! I know some budget brands are good for beginners or crafters who are not looking for fine art supplies. I have stopped giving the budget level supplies as gifts or using them for senior workshops! I have found DaVinci Watercolors of California has 37ml tubes and making split primary palettes is truly the best way to go! I have on occasion, included a couple of connivence colors like a Sap green, Paynes grey, or Denise’s Grey if I have a particular project I am teaching (for a class). Giving the gift of Art supplies is simply the one gift that can truly change a person’s life! From 5 to 50 years old anyone can benefit from creating art. You don’t have to be the next (insert your favorite artist) yet creating something for yourself will enrich your life and your soul!

I have the 24 set of Lightwish and the colors are vibrant and rewet nicely. Went down easily on cotton paper. The only thing were some typos with pigments. That could be a language translation issue. My burnt sienna was labeled inner and vis versa. But like the paints.

Wow. I guess Superior, before watching. I’ve been very curious about these, so I’m happy you’re reviewing them. Thanks for your trusty trials of art materials we might want to buy! Doesn’t the current Art Whale set have different colors now? I compared what’s listed on Amazon and it seemed like the Lightwish paints had more blues, which I prefer. I don’t own the Art Whale. After watching: thank you for reviewing these; even if it’s not exciting for you, it sure helps your viewers sort out the jungle of student grade sets on Amazon. Do you think the Phoenix or Cotman are more transparent than the Superior white-labels?

I just traced out a grid using my new #sketchbookfloozy 6x6 stencil (shameless plug 😆) and randomly started mixing and playing with color. Here are the stencils if interested, you could totally use a ruler too tho:) shrsl.com/4odqz

Ooo, I love this set Lindsay! I love that it has a natural hair brush. Natural hairs can decompose and don't clog up the environment like artificial/synthetic products, that's the reason why I prefer natural hair brushes. They also last longer, another added benefit. I don't know how they are manufactured, so if something sinister is happening then I might change my mind.

I gave that tip like more then a deccade ago. I know the brand colors I use by heart by now. It's funny to see you still use it. I actually tossed the swatchbook and might make a new one. Old one was just the cotman, sakura koi schmincke and white nights. Pretty eu easy to get basic doesnt break the bank stuff. Still use whitenights; but paints had somewhat of an upgrade since :P unlike my poor swatchbook that endedup with cotman meets babybottle milk and schmincke meets baby dribble hahaha. Really. Its sight was not even found in the socalled beauty in the eye of the beholder,lol.

Omg! Now watching more of your review I’m shocked at some of the pigments info in this set! The 24 one I really liked, the only strange thing about pigments was burnt sienna and burnt umber seem to be switched up. But you are right, those turquoises are most definitely not what they claim to be

I have a hunch that superior tried to dupe the Paul rubens 48 set since it was so popular and just copied their label names and pigment info. I don't trust it because some pigments I am familiar with seem very off.

I enjoyed your review! Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the budget brands. Just letting you know that most, if not all, Chinese watercolor paint manufacturers are wholly or in part owned by the Chinese government. Paul Rubens may be one of those brands that is not solely owned by the government. Therefore, creating higher quality paints because of a vested private interest in their company. The other brands mentioned may "borrow" and "exchange" pigment information, because the Chinese government has ownership interest in all of them.

My goodness, I am so tiered of not getting what they say you’re getting. Thank you for finding out this information. I have a quick question. What do you use for your lighting over your table that you are painting on because I’ve been thinking of ordering the canvas light with the wood base and it’s supposed to hold your phone so it could record you as you paint for your creation of your content, and I was wondering if you have any opinion on this light before I blow money That could’ve been used for buying more paint and paper.

I've never tried it. My set up is homemade. I have daylight bulbs in aluminum clamp lights and a board mounted to Mt ceiling with a 1/4" screw to hold my camera.

@@thefrugalcrafter wow it sounds like you got quite the homemade set up. That’s a great rig. I see your videos they look fantastic. I don’t have a ceiling over me. It’s pretty high up, but I don’t think that would work for me. Plus I have my aquarium in front of where I paint so I don’t think that part would work either. I’m just wondering if this is a good product for me because I’m trying to encourage myself to make more and more like I was doing on my channel. I appreciate you taking the time to comment as you always do and give me great information.

Hello Linsey I’ve watched your videos for years I know this is off topic but I have a question recently went through my clear stamps and wood block ones and there just not stamping good I couldn’t remember what you did to them to make crisp again was it sand paper sure would like to know? Sponge vegetable glycerin on the rubber one and let it soak in at least overnight. Don't wash it off. They will be better next time you use them. For clear stamps wash them in dish soap and try them. If the ink is not sticking you can rub an eraser on them and try again. If that doesn't work you can gently Buff them with a fine sand paper or emery board.

Turns out I already have these paints (probably twice from different sellers with different packaging) Out of curiousity, how much do they cost to you on USA Amazon? You've mentioned they are about $35-40 on your side. In CAD they cost $66 for 48 set (before the coupon), which is significantly higher than the exchange course.

@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you. This sounds a little more fair. As for the set - I'd like to have this brush but I don't want to get this set third time. I greatly appreciate your review preventing the confusion and notification about improper pigments. When I got ArtWhale (which is the same thing from the looks of it) it also ripped off colours and pigment index from Paul Rubens wholesale, up to duplicating the codes on paints.

If you didn’t mention the brush no one would know. Ignorance is bliss & would keep the majority of people from caring. Why do so many reviewers ( not. Just picking on you) nit pick things like what a brush is made from or pigments? Especially when 99 out of 100 people don’t care about those details?

Killing animals for brushes is not a detail. They way they are killed for their hair is very cruel and people need to know. I think truth is bliss.

Well, there are a lot of channels (I think most, actually) that will only share the positive aspects in a review so they can earn more commission from affiliate links or keep getting brands to send freebies. I don't care about that (although affiliate money is nice, it's not worth selling out my viewers. The viewers have my loyalty, not the brand.) There are so many options now that you can get exactly what meets your needs and avoid what you don't want to support. I am trying to demystify what's what for people who have not used these products so they can purchase supplies that meet their budget, ethics, and quality needs. And if a company puts pigment info on a product, they are doing it because they know what's in it or they want to appear high-end. I'm not going to ignore mislabeled products or products missing safety labeling. If you just want to hear the pros, there are plenty of other channels that will sell to you:) Thanks for the great question!
