WOW mind blow!! I have made cabinets for years just using measurements 😮😮😮😮😮😮 SERIOUSLY THANK YOU!!! I will be selling the home we are in and we are building our last and forever home. I have built many cabinets over the years to match cabinets already in place but never attempted to build an entire kitchen or bath. What I have learned in the last 3 videos now makes that time frame doable and much less work on our old bodies as we move forward. I can’t thank you enough. I have been watching RU-vid videos about everything under the moon for years, my husband has wanted me to start a channel for years as well. But I can’t honestly say what you have shown us, hubby been watching them too and he usually only watches pool matches and tiny camper videos has taught us something that translates to so many areas of building that has made us excited about building our house instead of asking are we too old for this 😂 NOT But seriously I am telling everyone about your channel. Love it! I can’t believe I was going to pay a ridiculous amount for our cabinets, we will build our carcuses and drawers and just order our drawer front and doors as the design I want I am willing to pay for them. I want walnut so not taking that one on.

This is one of the best detailed videos on making drawers, installing them, etc. I have yet to figure out how to do it, but then I finally bought a table saw too so I am hoping that will help me even up all the mistakes I made with being off a bit in the past.

Kinda like the Vice Grip Garage of woodworking. 45 year contractor developer, and I still love watching craftsmen do what they do best. The whole cab build was fantastic, my suggestion for ANYONE trying this for the first time would be to build for the garage storage first so you're not really disappointed if something doesn't come out perfect. Mistakes are the foundation blocks of achieving excellence. But the cost of high #1 quality no void ply for cab building is minimal in comparison to a mainstream cab shop making cases with door and drawer faces at retail. The satisfaction of employing the principles my Carolina brother is teaching far outshines going down and just dropping coin on machine punched standards and paying extreme premiums for specialty or custom sized pieces. Got the time and patience, the EAST Carolina Woodworker video series is worth it's weight in gold.

Loving the channel. Just found you today. I'm thinking about building my cabinets for a kitchen remodel after getting a couple quotes from local shops. You're making me think this machinist can handle cabinets without a problem. The only problem I foresee is my wife picking apart all of my work. 😆

Totally understand that statement. Plumber here and I built all our master closet built ins; veneer edged, stained, looked amazing. Then the wife points out 2 of the 8 shelves have the grain running the opposite way lol.

Having used the Kreg drawer slide jig, I definitely agree they make the process so much easier. Instead of spacer blocks, you can also clamp them on the inside of the cabinet to the back of the rails for attaching the slides. Then switch them to the outside of the rails for attaching the slides to the drawer.

You can optimize your spacer block. If your drawer heights were say 20" and 10", then your spacer block can simply be 20x10 and not have to cut it down for the next set of drawers.

Great video very detailed. I am really trying to be a better craftsman. the only thing I would recommend is that you install you back panel on the Drawer after you slide in the bottom then you can keep the piece that you went back to and cut off. It creates a stronger drawer bottom then just screwing it to the wood. Overall Great Vid.

I'm enjoying your video content a lot. I'd like to suggest that you normalize the audio on your video before uploading them. Normalizing will bring up your low volume areas and bring down your high volume areas. I find myself having to adjust my volume level multiple times during your videos, as your musical interludes between voiceovers is too loud and your voiceover too soft. Keep up the good work. Always great to see a Carolina-based channel on here.

Great video. Shortcut for attaching the slides (and without the Kreg guides)... Simply lay the slide down on the side of the drawer flush with the bottom. Open the slide enough to screw the first hole into the drawer, then continue to open the slide until you reach a second hole. Separate the two slide pieces and attach the cabinet side as you currently are. No jig and you can do it all from your bench.

Good job, very nice looking drawers. Instead of the 1/4" groove around the bottom of my drawers, I cut a 1/2" dado and glue-and-screw 1/2" plywood for the bottom. I like a firm solid drawer bottom. There is nothing worse than a drawer full of heavy silverware causing the bottom to sag, or break through.

Thanks for the good information! Great sense of humor, and I truly hope you hold on to it. Why? I watched my friend remove all four fingers on one hand using a table saw. I guess you know where I'm goin' with this. Until you see your fingers lyin' around everywhere, I also guess you'll keep goofing around with that saw blade. I really hope you keep your fingers, I can't imagine you posting up the event of their removal, and I can't stand to see you use that tool, and alternative cabinet makers are not in short supply on RU-vid. Humor, charm, and useful info is great until a young person wanting to be like you uses their table saw like you do. It's a show, right? It's also a stewardship. I hope you know I wish you the best.

Love your videos. Wondering about the drawer slides that you use. They look like soft close. I'd also like to know why you prefer side slides over bottom. I've been wood working off and on most of my life but have never done cabinets. Now that I'm building my own cabin, cabinets are a must. You look and sound a lot like my son. Even how you say things. From a great grandma.

You're like the "Mr. Roger's" of wood working! Lol. Never seen a cleaner shop. One thing I do when gluing but ends, I prime the but side, meaning, I glue the end but press that glue into the fibers of the end. It soaks up that glue understandably fast. I wait a minute or so, then I glue it once more before assembling. This gives a measurably big difference in the bond. Just a thought! 66carpenter

Having been the Sandee in a cabinet shop for my mentor BigBob learned a trick that I'd like to share... get a cheap candle 🕯 (minus the flame, of course) and rub it on the insides of the dados to ease any binding and helps seal the wood. Also from one Leftyto another Glad to see I aren't the only thatsticks my pencil in my hat band too. Just be careful if your using a SHARPIE MAKER that the caps is on first... 🤣

You could also lay the cabinet on its side and let gravity help you with no need for a spacer block. I attach my slides before I assemble the box

Plenty of ways to skin a cat as they say! Spacer block is for keeping it square from front to back. Your method works as well I’ve done it every way possible and this way works best for me!

Why doesn’t anyone (at least that I’ve seen) screw on the filler strips and drawer slides at the same time? Using longer screws, screw through the slide, through the furring strip, and into the carcass?

Great vid. Thanks for the feedback on pocket screw count. I've been using 2 per side on the average 5'ish inch box for a long time and wondered if it was just me that thought 3 was excessive. For 3/8" boxes, do you typically use 3/4" screws? I'm making a walnut apothecary box with 16 drawers and I think 3/8" is going to be the size I'll go with so I was curious.

I guess these drawers are for full overlay drawer fronts? I'm going to want to do inset, or flush drawer fronts...I.guess you just subtract the thickness of your drawer front from the drawer depth when sizing the drawers and slides?

I'm learning and comparing the technique on making the drawer bottoms. Around 11:27 - 11:45, when you realized you needed to cut down the back, it appears the saw blade is positioned higher than the existing 1/4" groove. It appears you are cutting out the entire 1/4" groove and making the back a kerf-width out-of-plane with the side grooves. Perhaps it is the angle of the video. Also, when measuring the drawer bottom, I understand including the 3/8" to both sides and the front to the inside dimension, but shouldn't you add a full 3/4" to account for the bottom overlaying the back so it can be attached?

So, just like the what came first the chicken or the egg - do you build the drawer to the cabinet or build the drawer first and build the cabinet around it. For instance, I need to build a cabinet that will house an Instant Pot - as well as some other specific kitchen appliances. I need to make sure that the drawer is deep enough to hold everything. You getting where I am going with this? Thanks.

I typically build the cabinet first and then depending on what needs to go in the drawers is how I determine the spacing of my face frame rails if that makes sense. If I have something that’s 12” tall that needs to go in a drawer I make sure I have the clearance in between my rails on my face frame. Hope this makes sense kind of hard to explain!

love your content, I might mention the lack of guards and safety stuff going on - you will just race a 2 inch board with your fingers right along your blade. Since I did cut a finger off on accident, it makes me cringe - but I know a ton of folks that do the same (until they don't - like me). Anyways, I might mention it in your video sometime because you are targeting amateur carpenters.

Measure the inside depth of the cabinet. Drawer slides usually come in increments of 2 inches so depending on the depth will determine your size needed 👍🏻

Do you still knock down the corners on the face frame even though you need to clamp them together for install? You’d get a larger seam between carcasses, yes? Catch 22 right? Paint won’t stick to a sharp corner so you knock ‘‘em down but the gap/seam is more pronounced when installing 🤔 Building my cabinets now but haven’t gotten to my most favorite part of the build… sanding ❤️😵

Yes I knock down all the edges by hand 🖐! And yes you do get a more pronounced seam but with 1/2” reveals it’s not as noticeable 👍🏻

When you were cutting your pocket holes how you know were to position your drawer sides on the pocket hole machine?

The pocket hole machine has a ruler laid out on the back fence so its easy to position your piece at the same place every time. Hope this helps!

Hello, I’m new to your channel. I am looking for a build, but I want something rustic to go into my bathroom and like a small shelving unit I can store the towels and whatever else I need to store I can use baskets to put in. I don’t mind open shelving, I haven’t found anything online that I could copy. I don’t know if you’ve done anything rustic

Definitely some women in the building 😂😊 get it😅. I’ve made cabinet boxes I’m just so nervous about the doors/drawers because I previously made a wardrobe closet (beautiful) but the doors rub the frameless box no matter how the ever built hinges are adjusted (never heard of face frames at the time).

I am not familiar with the Kreg foreman. I do have the original kreg pocket hole kit. I know I have to make adjustments for wood thickness, etc. but in your video it doesn't look like you have to do that. Is that true or am I missing something

I work mainly with 3/4 material so I don’t have adjust. You do have to manually adjust the foreman as well 👍🏻

Looks like your drawer was to far set in. You should explain how much to set it in. If your using bumper pad on back of drawer fronts. Or if not. It's so much nicer and simpler if you just put the track in the center of the drawer Great video
