Thanks for another great informative video! Aaron needs to put one or two game cams around the pond. You'll be so surprised at what critters come in the night....raccoons, fox, deer, neighbor dogs! You build it they will come!! ❤❤❤
I have to tell you, Hoselink changed my life. I am 75 yrs old and they (one on front of house, one on back) have made it so easy for me to keep taking care of my plants by myself. I wish I had started gardening at a younger age, but I am loving it even if I am a bit on the slow side.😆 I have also been a copy cat on my augers and drills. LOVE the ease of using them ❤🦋 Thank you Aaron and Laura for all of your inspiration.❤🦋
You do a great job with the types of exposure your kids receive. It gives them a well rounded ability to deal with multiple situations. You’re great and loving parents!
I’m with Laura…a stacked stone edge between the gravel and the berm would look so much more natural. To me, the bricks beings formality. Now we know where Samantha Grace got the saying, “it’s not my fault!” from! Lol!!😂
I think the word that describes Aaron is tactful. He isn't really afraid to tell the truth but he knows the best way to say it without being a jerk or rude about it.
Awesome that you include the children in what all you do. I agree, the more they are around it all, the more knowledgeable they will be. Love your family dynamics.
I agree. The secret is to have ‘too many’ rocks. Not enough and the ‘rockery’ looks like a large pudding studded with sultanas. More is definitely more with rockeries.
Specialist is so expensive nowadays that DIY seems like the only choice. I just fixed my houses wiring, irrigation and my car by watching a lot of videos and reading forums. I even helped an elderly lady to fix her electricity, no cost. I am a specialist in a different field (many a $$$ of certifications and CPE's) and observed the old conundrum. Money vs time vs quality. What and when is it good enough? How much knowledge?🤗🇿🇦
The question about keeping a garden journal caused me remember seeing a story of an old barn. The owner drew a basic map of his garden/yard on the wall of the barn. Drawings with Name, date planted and location of trees and major plants. I’m talking, about a hundred years ago! That wall now considered “folk art” and a family treasure! So wonderful for family to see❤❤
It would be interesting to set up cameras to capture all the wildlife visitors the pond will attract. I’ll bet you have deer before Christmas . Thanks for bringing us along on your journey I’m enjoying every minute of it .
I hope they don't have deer! Deer came thru my yard a few nights ago eating the tops off every Columbine I had and they ate my Willow saplings, twigs and all!! I can't stand those huge pests, they will eat every rose in your garden, all the tulips, etc!!
I feel bad that Laura has to defend what she wears. Many laborers that work outdoors wear long sleeves. And…huge difference being in a dry climate! The sun can kill you. Keep on keepin on, Laura. ❤
@@marebear09 I do too much of the time. In the past couple of years I’ve really become vigilant. I also slather on the SPF on the parts that are exposed. I have blue eyes. I now just need to get better about wearing sunglasses! 😎
I grew up on Lake Michigan sailing with my dad and mom. I had a healthy respect of water where some kids, who hadn't had experience around water, did not understand that water needs respect to be around or they could get in trouble. As an adult, my kids were used to being outdoors near water - they understand the safety rules because of their experience. Some of their friends (and especially parents) couldn't understand the dangers of water or climbing on rocks out on Lake Michigan. Water safety and outdoor safety became part of my inner language bc of my parents.
Roflol Laura!! Hahaha when my oldest daughter was about 3-4 years old. I was in my room putting fresh sheets on the bed. My daughter walks past my door, backs up a second and says "I don't have nothing" lol. I said what is it you don't have? She replied, "I don't have your stapler". lol. She also always told on herself hahahaha. Small children are a joy and a source of amusement! I just love being around their innocent perspectives on life.
Good morning, Laura & Aaron ☕️ Another great recap. Looking forward to a followup with Greg & Chris🙌🏻I heard a stream of some sort…? How super awesome! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
You are amazing parents to Benjamin and Samantha! Including them in your activities increases their life knowledge immeasurably. You are correct in educating them to the dangers and great results of hard work. Lucky children to have such terrific mom and dad! This is another wonderful recap of a very productive week.!💕
We have drip and I can't agree more!!! I put a few new planters around my back patio recently and ran drip to them. My husband couldn't understand why I went to all the effort to do that. Well, it's one day of effort for HOURS of time saved and healthy plants later!
"Children need to do dangerous things safely." I've heard this recently and I have decided that this is wise. You teach them to be near water and in water-which could be dangerous-safely. The same, really, with anything. You are right to not let them be in a bubble.
Yes to Hoselink! I have purchased three (so far) and gotten other family members to purchase them after seeing them on your videos! They are amazing! Glad Hoselink now offers the pipe/pole to install them on.
SPF info: I was a cosmetic chemist before I retired and I manufactured skin care products. I can tell you that any SPF above 30 does very little. SPF30 blocks 97% and a SPF 50 only blocks 98%, SPF100 99%, the difference is not worth the expense. Higher is not really better. It is a marketing ploy to charge more money. also buy store brands because often they are made by the same company. I know from experience.
Morning Laura n Aaron the pond is absolutely gorgeous n all your gardens are so beautiful love how you let the kids help do things n you are so encouraging with them to do things
I have to defend the AuquaPots. We live in Northern Illinois and the AquaPots are a game changer for us. I have only watered/filled them once per week and they are thriving. I have them around our front door area that is challenging to reach with a hose and I LOVE them. I only have drip set up to our raised bed garden and a few containers in the backyard. There are benefits to both. We ❤️ AquaPots! I cannot wait to try the new light ones.
Great recap. I love your pond. You are great parents and it shows in how your children behave. We have let them play, explore, and learn while we are there to keep them safe. Your videos bring such joy and knowledge to so many of us. Thank you
I loved how Aaron said ok it’s my fault lol I could see Benjamin when he said that 😂 you guys bring so much happiness to me. Thank you for sharing everything that you do with us .
MOSQUITOES love standing water as Laura said --- that's why you will NEVER be bothered by them at DISNEY......Walt Disney was adamant about 'NO STANDING" water on his property --- it is ALWAYS MOVING.... a little known Blessing that most people never think of - cause we are not bothered by those nasty little mosquitoes. He was a true businessman that thought of the people.
You are so adorable, I just loved when you assured us “ It’s not my fault” about the aqua pots. Wonder where Samantha got that saying from You have so helped me thru the last couple years. I so look forward to each new video. I’m 79, lost my. Husband of 59 years , my son has cancer and lives with me. he had spent 3.5 months in hosp. Yup your my. Happy place. Thank you
We bought a hoselink for the front of the house this spring. After a few months we bought a second for the back. Love them! Thanks for the rec. Your pond is beautiful!
I grew up on a coastal island. In my generation, kids were free range. We went home for meals, but aside from that, we spent summer days leisurely exploring. I can’t recall anyone ever drowning. We were all part fish.
Children are raised around water all over the country!! Any decent parents watch their children and if I were Laura and Aaron I would be insulted!! Stop questioning their parenting skills!!! Ugh😡
It’s quite possible that those who are expressing concern for the safety of the children have had personal experience of a tragic incident around water.
Laura do you remember saying, “I want our place to feel like the destination where we want to be.” Why go to a paradise when you are living in it. Kuddos to all that you both have accomplished! 👏👏👏❤️✅
Exactly. When I was a kid I was taught how to drive our jet skis , riding lawnmower and such. I wasn’t allowed to drive them by myself until I was legally old enough because my parents were right there with me. Now, I have never had a car or motorized vehicle accident at 40. My brothers and I were taught to respect the risks and be smart about it.
It wasn't my fault! Laura said it in reference to the SuperPots. So we know where Samantha picked it up. 😂 Thanks for sharing ❤and see you next week ❤Peggy❤
I can't tell you how much i enjoy getting up early Sunday mornings and watching the recap videos. I enjoy my morning Mt Dew (cheers Aaron 🍻) and getting on with my day.
Laura! I almost cried with relief when you said you talked to your kids about the pound and kinda got in their face about it. My baby brother drowned when he was 2. I have so many fears with this kids around water because of it. Little bit of lifelong PTSD. I am sure you guys will have a lot of fun with it!
What an incredible week you and your family had with big changes with finishing the pond area! And then all the garden maintenance which is vast even with your marvelous staff. So enjoyable to see you and Aaron siting down and have such fun making the recap video and passing along such great information!
Yes! 50 years ago parents raised their kids to be adults. Example: at a young age they had them doing farm chores, cleaning, cooking, ect. They taught them how to be grown up when they were still little. Included them in all the activities. Nowadays they say “well, kids need to be kids.” Or “they grow up fast enough, let them have fun” and I think that is a real disservice to young people. They get stuck in their room playing or with a babysitter while their parents tackle the projects. I think I prefer to raise them as adults so that they can see the successes and failures and learn early in life how to handle them. Hard work is a fact of life and I think people will always find time to play so to me it would be more beneficial to include them in the big projects.
I think it shouldn't be either or. It should be both and. I worked hard alongside my folks and learned a great deal about life, but I was also given time to be a carefree kid. It was during that "kid time" I developed my imagination and independence, bravery and curiosity.
@zormier2002 oh no offense taken. I think you are absolutely right. Too many parents shelter their children from real life work, pain, and joy. They do them and our society a terrible disservice. I just thought I'd add my experience. 🙂 Sometimes, as a parent, it's tough getting the balance right.
LoL, It wasn’t my fault! We now know where Samantha get’s it from🥰 I love you all so very much and appreciate knowing you are so real, good or bad, success or fail you bring us along ❤
That is hilarious that Samantha says it’s not my fault. I remember when my daughter was young she suddenly started crying and ran to timeout. I never did figure out what she done lol.
Great recap video. Everything was fantastic. Love the recap because sometimes I forget what happened that week and this is a fabulous reminder. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. Appreciated.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Laura and Aron, you spoke of mosquitoes in the South Garden and you still have the pondless waterfall. After the pond was completed you saw how it attracted dragonflies and birds that eat mosquitoes. The pondless waterfall could do the same thing and both of the water features will also attract bats at night that help to eat those nasty bugs too! The South Garden may need the pondless waterfall.
“If you want to save money, hire a pro” If you’re a hobbyist knock yourself out. It won’t be very efficient or be as nice but that’s ok…it’s your hobby!
Leaving a forever home is hard. We retired and moved from a property that I thought we would never leave. I still miss it , but when one door shuts another door opens. Your videos have given me a new interest, where I didn’t have the time on the the horse farm to garden much. I look forward to to your videos every morning and have learned so much-thank you!
I have said it in the past and now with the pond added you are creating a lifetime extravaganza of a garden, something I can only see in Philadelphia at Longwood Gardens, Thanks for letting me enjoy watching you create this masterpiece garden.
Yes kids learn fast and the swimming skill is very important. They will be great little fish. Snorkeling and just a great place to cool off. I love the pond project and I am soooo excited for you guys and can’t wait to see the pond progression! ✌🏻🙏🏼❤️
As I was watching you read the questions, I wanted to tell you all the answers you were unsure of!! I'm in my 3rd year of "Living the Aquascape Lifestyle"!!! It's an amazing journey, and you will love it! My pond is a couple of feet off my front porch. I wouldn't doubt you'll want one closer!! A cup of coffee and throwing food off the porch is the way to go!!! ❤❤❤❤
I hv too Say Home made in a wood fire Veggies Pizzazz the Best, when U plan Ur outdoors Kitchen put in a fire burning box with Pizzazz Oven cooker on top, One Of Our Best decision in Our remodeling best Ever, Hubby's also built cooking half wall, smoker, grill, and yep overboard a flat griddle grill too yep 😊 we are the go to Families gathering house 😊 Grand kids are learning and enjoying cooking with Grand's, Wonderful Best choices Ever!! ❤😊
Even with the existing pond project I still do enjoy and look forward watching you plant anything in your garden and learning from your experience. I enjoy watching you and Aaron talk about the week too. People love this channel because you both are obviously kind, talented, hard working, great parents and sweet to each other. Your hard work has paid off and the both of you are able to create this amazing space for your family. Good on you!
Skin Medica sales just sky rocketed after this video lol♥This really must work as I agree, your skin always looks radiant for being in the sun so much!
You guys are great parents and have patience! Bravo! You are right, you can't keep kids in cocoons, you need to prepare them for the world and you are doing a great job! Aaron, pizza is always a good choice 😂😂😂 well I am half with Laura and half with Aaron. Even though I know is not really a good choice, not that good for you anyway 😂 but yummy for the most part. Hugs ❤🤗❤️
I don't understand why people are so obsessed with what Laura wears and whether her hair is up or not. Guaranteed if she was a man, there would be no such discussion. So ridiculous.
My husband hand dug a lily pond for me about 25 years ago. We've always had fish in it and never had a heater in it for them. I'm in Kansas so our winter temps can be as low as -10. We keep a water bubbler going so that the pond doesn't freeze over and some of our fish are over 15 years old. I didn't think that I could overwinter a tropical lily in it.
Laura and Aaron you are both so refreshing to watch. You get along so well and your bantering back and forth cracks me up. Your marriage should be envied by many because your personalities are matched so well. I’ve loved watching your videos from the first video I watched. You explain things in plain English for us backyard gardeners. I do have a question or a favor to ask, could you please show a close up picture of Paul and Bethany in one of your up coming videos?
Ive had 2 aquascape ponds my 1st being my favorite one. I built both myself and so when i watched yours being built i was sirt of quzzeled when i saw them putting ugly pots into your pond. In mine I dug holes in the soul and put the liner in pushing it into these holes where i then put my water lillies because the water being so clear the lilies appeared to be growing from under the rick, more natural llooking. These aquascape professionals didn't seem to know about this but I learned it from my garden center guy who was the person that brought aquascape to Canade.
Thank you for your comments about a pool vs a pond. I would love a pond for the exact same reasons Laura does. It's pretty year round. We have an inground pool & it's depressing 7 months out of the year seeing it covered. Thank you to Laura, Aaron, Greg & all the wonderful people who created this beautiful oasis. ❤
Love these weekly recaps with all the great questions from different gardening zones around the world. Pretty neat. A Hoselink for my Florida garden would be a HUGE help! PS: ALL PIZZA IS GOOD PIZZA!
I can tell you by the amount of videos that are popping up my my feed concerning your pond build.... it was worth it to them. I have watched all of the videos that the team made while on your build and I can assure you that just have "Laura with GA" in their title got them clicks! 🙂
Before you told what the pond project would cost I thought it would be around 80k. And this is not bad when you consider what an in ground pool would cost with hardscaping & landscaping. Our friend put a small pool in and a bit of landscaping and he’s at 105k in Ohio.
I decided to bite the bullet and buy a hose link this Spring and it's been so so nice. I already want another one, or two lol. My husband has said several times how much he loves it.
People need to calm down about the kids and water. I understand concern, but as a parent myself that has an extremely large pond I can tell you the kids will be fine. I had an autistic 6 year old son when we inherited our property with a huge pond. Having a pond actually causes your child to be more informed than the average kid about the dangers of water and to be even more cautious than most parents are. Plus when all else failed we convinced him there were snakes in the water 😂, which now that he is 14 he laughs about it.
We have large rocks in our yard. We chiseled some rocks to make bird baths. Honey bees and birds love them. We use the hose and clean them every few days.
