My favorite meal when I was a kid was Beef Tongue with my grandma's homemade special gravy, fresh kale with smoked ham chunks, mashed potatoes, and pumpernickel rye bread to sop up the gravy and potatoes. When i was young, beef tongue was not popular but it was very cheap. Sometimes the grocer would just give it to you for free over the meat counter. Now it is a delicacy and us about $14/lb

oh, and Natalies mom is Pure Italian, and I can confirm that they call it Nnyoh-key. Her Grandmother would literally spend ALLLLL day making it just as an appetizer. Fresh Pasta from scratch.

Wow…this video is definitely a favorite. Love the interaction with your Mom.. she is a gem! I am a soup maker and guess what? I have the same old spatula.. must be 46 years old 😱! It is a favorite! Will try your soup and the Italian part… LOL. Hubby is Italian and Jason is right about Olive Garden.. but the food is decent. Cracked up with “EYE-taly…so many say it that way. We have family in EYE-taly. Wonder what they would say if I pronounced it like that? Anyway, love the family time.. it is so very special ❤️

That was awesome. Coming from a mix of Polish, German, and Welsh descents, we have a ton of favorite family foods. During Christmas we all try and get together and everyone helps make around 200 perogies. My mother just turned 80 and not doing so well. Last year may have been her last. You are so correct in making the memories and cherishing them, because you never know when it could be your last. My rig is basically stocked with all my mother's old kitchen items as well. Great video.

Omg!! Jason, your Mom is awesome!! Reminds me of my Mom, So sweet. I have never heard of this soup. Going to make it next week. Would do it this weekend, but I just made my Insta pot chicken noodle soup. ( Heaven ) Can you kinda give an estimate on how many potatoes, 🥕 carrots and celery stalks you used ? Love your Mom! She's so feisty! We love chocolate too...and if you add peanut butter even better! But we cracked up at the "serving size"! LOL! Oh! And it is pronounced "gNYO-kee"...the g is barely pronounced. We'd never heard of this soup or Rock & Rye soda...California folks here. You guys crack us up, even if you are just making a meal together. What a great memory to have on video. I'd love the written recipe but screenshots will have to do! LOL! Oh...ask you mom "why no onion?". Thanks for sharing this time!

Love seeing your mom as the star of the show! Our fave family recipe is Pizza Burgers! But what the heck is Faygo Cola haha!? Wifey is Italian and she totally agrees that OG is the Walmart of Italian food LOL!

It’s so amazing and they have some really cool flavors.. when you’re traveling around, keep an eye out for it, and if you find Rock N Rye ~ get it! @@Ournotsoperfectlife we’ve never been up there before, so I guess that’s why we have never heard of it! We don’t drink soda, but now we feel like we hve to try it 😂 so pizza burgers are so freaking good. You make the beef on the stove, let it cool then mix sauce and cheese (and what ever other toppings you like - we go for olives & green chili peppers but the fam loves to add onion). Then you put it on a burger bun and cook it in the oven 🤌🏼🤌🏼 if that sounds good to y’all I’ll send you the actual recipe! Wifey’s grandmother made them growing up and she passed it down to her dad and he passed the recipe to her!

My mom had a soup she love to make and I loved to eat with home made bread and butter. It was called hamburger soup. I so his miss both. It warms the soul. Lucky boy M&Ms from mom.

That was such a heartbreaking video I loved every minute of it. My mom is now in the nursing home not doing very good but at least she is hanging on and being strong watching this brought back some great memories thank you for sharing this with all of us and God bless you all stay safe and healthy till the next video

One of my favorite "old recipes" is ... baked chicken? Chicken, rice, cream of mushroom soup and cream of celery soup. I forget the exact measurements and cook time. But, make it work and it'll be delicious.

Absolutely loved this video ! Most of my favorite memories are in the kitchen with the family . I was blessed to be raised by my NoNee ( little Italian grandma ) lol . She was a fabulous cook. She taught me how to make her secret biscuit recipe , she made them on the counter top no bowl and we would work together and talk and laugh and she would tell me stories . I did this with my children and now with my grandchildren and cherish every moment . Thank you for the wonderful flood of memories tonight . Stay well and Travel safe .
