When I was in college, taking the music majors' basic course, for our midterm we had to perform a Bach four-part chorale, playing any three of the parts and singing the fourth, as directed - exactly what you recommend. You do beautiful work.
I don't understand all what you say because i'm french but i hope to progress. One thing is sûre, i understand what you are playing and i can play that on my Steinway piano. It' s the most important. A beautiful tune. " Merci beaucoup ".
It's so beautiful!!! I'd love to have the score!! I'll email you and I like it as it is, handwritten, with your personal touch!! You're a great teacher, Aimee!!
You explain things so well. Do you know any barry harris theory? 6th diminished scale. You could probably explain it better than he does. The dissonant notes remind me of his sound. Thanks
jerryjoejackaroe I like that scale. I have only discovered his videos and teaching in the past six months tho so I don't feel like I have a handle on it all well enough to teach it yet. He fascinates me tho.
G’day Aimee, I love your stuff. However, please try my version of the first bars of „Have You Met Ms. Jones“ | F Bb9 | Am7 D 7/9b | Gm7 ///| C13 ///| Notes in left hand: The F and then just the Bb and 7th ( the melody is the 9th) Then the Am7 (just root and 7th) then the D7 with the finished 9th. I love all the rest of your changes in this and your counter melody.
mario urbina .Have to agree with you Doug Mckenzie amazing improvs, Doug is from Geelong Victoria Oz.Do have a listen Aimee, but your teaching style blows me away.
BTW, a very good jazz musician just pointed out to me that the bridge to "Have You Met Miss Jones" is the Coltrane "Giant Steps" progression. Pretty cool, right?
I’m so happy to let you know that now all of the worksheets from my videos are available on my website. You can find the one you need right there. Thanks so much for writing! www.aimeenolte.com/pdfs-worksheets-charts
i love 13b9 chords (especially with a #11 too) and minor11 chords btw :) personal fave :) ... LH: Bb+Ab RH: B+D+E+G i think minor7 chord built on the tritone/1+7 to easily find the chord in any key :)
Hello Aimee! May I suggest you a great subject for your next video? It would help a lot to many who struggle with the solo Jazz piano. Could you take a standard - say "Here is that rainy day" and show how to build a solo piece from the lead sheet going in steps. That is: first by adding Roots in the LH, then expanding the LH texture by adding more notes, then adding more stuff to the RH. It would be interesting to see exactly the process of eleboration of the basic arrangement and turning it into relatively sophisticated solo piece - well, not necessarily a piece for Maybeck Recital Hall but something that would sound as a real music.
btw you should check out lee evans transcriptions books, and nikki isles season books (jazz in springtime/summer/autumn/winters night). both have great use of harmony. if you check them out try and let me know any other arrangers that are similar. as of yet i havent found any :(
mario urbina lol I'm a good clef writer! I promise! But why.....like....you guys all know what I mean, riiiiiigght? Ok ok I'll try and write them in from now on! Lol thx for the offer tho!
@Jari Satta: The "Sibelius" software is for many years a de facto one of the two programs for pros that are out there. And of course it was named after Jean Sibelius! :)))
Some softwares do everything all you need is the notes, or other software writes what you play on the piano but do not pay attention to me, even looks more profettional
Aimee Nolte well a few. initially i was thinking avalon (the vid is on youtube) but i think that youd prob hate me if i said that one ;) so um ill have a think of something else he does. it might be interesting to show a vid doing something in his style though because its difficult to condense big band to solo piano imo and if you sing it too bonus :) how about come by me with vocals? possibly the solo as well? i think avalon is a bit too much work for anyone
I had a piano teacher but she was not a jazz teacher therefore could not help me, when talking about all the thing you are teaching she was not skillful , asi que by, by
