If you really wanna get into a "UK mood" then try getting yourself a nice teapot or tea infuser. Most high streets have a few shops that sell them as well as an assortment of tea leaves including local and more unique blends. Just boil some water in the kettle and add it to the tea pot with your leaves, just dont try heating it over the hob.

@oilyskinguru
@oilyskinguru Год назад
@pseudoplotinus that grinder will not give equal grind size to the coffee beans. She needs a grinder that can adjust the grind size. Grind size affects the coffee taste. If the grind size is too fine, the water might not go up, and the coffee will be bitter and acidic. Coarser grinds can lead to under-extraction due to the faster brewing process. The result is often a weak, watery, and underwhelming cup of coffee that lacks the desired depth of flavor.

In Spain we also use it. I think it's the only way to make good coffee. What surprised me the most is when I travelled to Northern Europe and met several unrelated Italians. 90% of them travel with a small pot. It's like a pocket moka pot. Anyway, the problem was the taste of the water and the coffee was not as good as in the south (or at least that's what they told me). Curious fact, in Spain we call them Italian coffee makers.

Here in italy this is basically the only way you make coffee at home, and there's a very important hospitality culture around it. My mother has four different moka pots of different sizes so she can always make the right amount of coffee for the number of guests we have, cause it's basically mandatory to ask your guests if they want some coffee, especially after a meal or during the afternoon. Also it's kinda adorable how she was like "the coffee is so bitter!" "How do I use this thing??". I've been using moka pots since I was like 10 y/O cause my mother would always send me to make coffee while she chatted with guests. Also yeah, coffee made this way is more rich and strong in taste than American coffee (which is pretty bland) so it's understandable that it may be a little strange for you to drink. It's the reason I don't really drink coffee, too
@idek7438

I don't think there's a single household in Italy that doesn't have at least one moka pot. They make them in all sizes from teeny tiny pots that yield half a cup of coffee to giant 12-person pots. Also yeah being the person in charge of making coffee from the age of 10 is relatable lol

Just a note, when they say coarser than espresso, on most home grinders the smallest setting is coarser than espresso, so you can go with that. Your grind looks big enough for pour over, which is a no no here. Also, burr grinders are preferred over blade because blade grinders don't grind evenly

@@yunaelia Yes, you are pretty much right, it can taste soapy and even foam if not washed properly with running water. also a thing I heard is that with every coffee you make a little bit of coffee oil stays on the inside of the pot, creating a layer that protects your coffee drink from touching the metal that it cooks inside of. Unfortunately, coffee oil has a colour of, well, coffee, so it looks like it's dirty. I do wash mine once in a while with soap and then run it without coffee, only water, to clean up.

Some advices on moka from an Italian: Never wash your moka with soap, coffee leaves a sort of patina on the aluminum that prevents the metal flavour, so use just water. The coffee grain should be smaller, in Italy it is used a very powdery coffee, the same (circa) used in an espresso machine. Water should be put in at room temperature reaching the middle of the valve. Coffee should be filling entirely its little department but should not be pressed while filling it with the spoon. And to prevent spillage or burning coffee once you hear a sort of whistle/ loud bubbling you should remove it from the stove, the residual warmth will continue to make the coffee go to the upper chamber without ruining it!!! I think that's all! Hope to be helpful!!!

You really do need to heat the pot on a lower temperature so it doesn't boil over like that (listen to those videos) except MAYBE at the very end. A low-very low flame and a bit of patience does wonders. It also leads to fewer grounds in your coffee. Also, be sure to run the bottom part of the pot under cold tap water, removing it from the flame before it finishes, just as the stream is turning white and bubbly. Fewer grounds and unpleasant tastes that way. If it starts to boil over and bubble violently, you are overdue to remove it from the flame and run the cold water down the sides of the bottom. Also, you can grind finer than what it tells you to in the instructions. I grind for Moka pot just a smidge above how I grind for espresso. Again, listen to the videos, you can go even finer than you showed in the video here. Assuming you do it right, this won't lead to an increase in grounds in the final product. If it ever starts always boiling violently no matter what you do, you may need to descale it, which simply means letting the pieces soak in diluted vinegar with warm water then scrubbing.

Never heard it called a moka pot. Once coffee starts coming out the top, just immediately take it off the heat, it’ll continue to brew. No need to run it under cold water at all, which is not good for that metal anyway if it’s still hot. If you leave it in the stove past that, you’re just burning it and making the coffee bitter. Also, did you pour hot water in it before putting it on the stove? That’s a no no. And don’t wash it with soap either, just rinse it out.

Hey girlie! I also really love the mokapot! Small tips to have a more enjoyable coffee experience with the mokapot, the coffee needs to fill up the container all the way to the top, do not pat it in, just level it off in the end. You need to fill the boiling water all the way till the beginning of the valve, but be careful not to cross the beginning of the valve as the hot water may come out from the sides as its brewing. Last tip, try placing it on the stove with very very very low heat, it should slowly get extracted, as it starts to actually boil, it’s time to take it off the stove and pour a little bit of cold water on the bottom of the mokapot before serving it! I hope this helps :)

Moka pots can't make espresso coffee. That's who why have espresso machines 😅 Espresso coffe requieres about 10bar pressure, which is impossible on a moka... There are many ways to make coffee, but only espresso machines make espresso 🎉

Don't drink the coffee you make the first time you use your moka: put the coffee in the bottom part and the grounds in the upper part and let it sit there until the following day. Then rinse and make your actual First coffee! Another tip is to never use soap, just rinse your moka and make sure you remove the grounds from the filter. Trust the Italians who only use moka for their coffee!

@@flashylite the oils should be in the coffee. If you leave the oils from the first coffee there (Italians say you have to throw out the first coffee from a machine), the next ones won't leave their own oils in the walls of the moka, so they won't lose an essential part of what makes good coffee.

"UK mood"? Sis no. The Moka was invented in Italy, and every household in Italy has AT LEAST one, not in the UK. Here in Italy we are literally taught as children how to use it. And let me tell you you're using it wrong. First of all: NEVER, and I say NEVER, wash it with soap. All you gotta do is quickly rinse it with water, leave the various pieces to dry and you're done. This way, with every use, the Moka develops a protective film inside, which saves your coffee from tasting like metal. Now for the actual coffee making part: the water, which should be room temperature, must reach the bolt but not overflow it, if you put too much water your coffee will be too diluted. Now, be generous with the coffee: you must create a little mountain where the coffee needs to be (here it must overflow the container rim), and absolutely, for God's sake, do not press, or even touch, that coffee mountain. Screw the top and the bottom together, put the Moka on the smallest stove you got and with the flame on at its minimum. With the lid strictly closed, wait until you hear first bubble, and then almost nothing, because it'll mean the coffee has stopped rising. Serve it hot and enjoy.
