Having a Second Baby: The Pros and Cons

Having a second baby is NOT an easy decision. My husband and I went back and forth multiple times to try and decide if having another baby was best for us as a family. I think we are regularly dictated by society that if we are prepared to have one child then we should be having several. But hopefully this video can help you make that decision.

Great video. we decided to stick with one. I think my own mental health, having preeclampsia , and finances are a big reason. Everything is so expensive now! It is 1600 a month for daycare where I live. I also think it's a lot to expect of them to play together and that "they'll always have each other". My siblings and I didnt want to play together when we were younger and we dont really talk now. Parents always gave more attention to one over the other and now our relationship with our parents in later life is strained and non-existent. A "built in best friend" as most people say is definitely not guaranteed.

Great video! I'm expecting number 2 this year. Your comment about having a younger brother who always has your back made me give a call to my own younger brother, lol.. Family is a wonderful thing :)

@@veronikamarie2970 I wish it was that way here! 6 week maternity leave is pretty standard here and if you work for a "good" company it'll be paid. I quit my job when I had my daughter.

@@veronicaturner5050 what??? 6 weeks?? Seriously? In Hungary we have 3 years and it is financially supported by the state. The first 6 months we get our gross salary in full (yepp, without tax). The next 30 months is less, but still. Being a mom is a full-time job! OMG 😢 I am so sorry for this, so unfair 😞

Hi, It’s always going to be difficult. There’s no right or wrong. I e found have a second child particularly difficult but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong for other families. Go with you’re gut and make the right fit for you and your partner x

@@myparentingway7996 Very true! Daughter is nearly 14 months old now so it definitely won’t be yet a while anyway. We’ll see what happens in a couple of years time - my wife will be a ‘geriatric’ (horrid term!) mum if/when she gives birth now anyway (she nearly was with our daughter actually)

Wow. This video was very helpful. My husband and I already have a son.. and we are constantly deliberating whether or not we should have another child.

It’s never going to be easy to decide. We found it a bigger conversation than having one child. I hope this helps you with you decision no matter what you decide.

@@brettsaspari5369 we have an 11 months old and for now my husband decided he's one and done.. I, on the other hand, would like to have another. It's tough. But I'm never going to pressure him into this, so, though not by choice, I am OAD too. Hugs to you guys, we found it to be the toughest decision of our lives..

@@daryakozhmy husband wants us to have second baby but I'm so overwhelmed by one he is 2.5 now and yesterday we got fist full night sleep. Second molars Teething is one big night mare. Still Brest fed.I stay home with him while my husband works from home and helps out here and there ( daycare is not an option for our family (ratio 9 to 1 caretaker) and nannies (we tried 3 only 1 was good) are beyond horrible experience (even me being always present at the house). No help from relatives as we moved far away from where we from. We barely have time for each other letting alone ourselves so Getting pregnant again sounds to me like the worst thing that could happen at this point.

Thank you for this video... I am trying to get some inside from any mother with a 4-year gap between their kids. Mine is three and I really think that if I am going to do this thing again it is now or never. May I ask, how it is going now that they are older? Do they play together? P.S. My husband is very supportive but he claims that even though he wants a second baby... he is scared to go through the sleeplessness again. I am most afraid about the pregnancy itself. When I was pregnant with my son, the doctor said I should spend the whole pregnancy laid down... and the one time I went to the supermarket... I end up 10 days in the hospital waiting for the baby to complete 36 weeks so we can deliver him with less risks. (everything went fine) I can't understand how am I supposed to stay in bed while having a 3-year-old son?

wow, a year of maternity leave. in the US if you're lucky you get 8 weeks. Some moms get zero if their work doesn't offer it.

Great video. I’m scared of the psychological impact of two. I don’t desire another child but my husband wants another and I recognise that it would be good for my child to have a sibling. I don’t know what to do!

I totally understand. There is no easy answer. I think go with your gut. The way I looked at it was that I just knew I always wanted 2 but my husband wasn’t sure. It’s something you both need to agree to

Having children used to be understood as being a blessing but now they are often seen as a burden, extra cost and an interruption of life. The birth rate is falling rapidly around the world. Psalm 113:9 - He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord. Psalms 127:3 - Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Genesis 1:28 - And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Psalm 127:4-5 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

I completely agree. I'm a professional in Healthcare and after putting my son in daycare for 4 months I could not live with the idea of other people (including family) raising my son whom I brought into the world and dedicated to raising in the ways of God. There is too much distraction and influence from the enemy in the world and I firmly believe that mothers should raise their kids. Yes it is much easier going to a job but we have a calling to nurture our kids, they should not be burden for our job sake if we need to be at home to care for them. ❤ children are a blessing from God and being a parent also teaches you a lot and it helped grow my walk with Christ.

@@asouthafricanindian9258 Amen, I'm so glad you realized this. I don't understand why a mother would want to have children, only to pass them off to other people (even family) to raise. Children tend to prefer their mothers over anyone else, especially at a young age. We have the responsibility to raise our own children in the ways of the Lord and the fruit of it lasts for eternity. May God bless you and your family.
