Great video. Glad you enjoyed the white chamber. It was my first game and it was a long time ago now but I am still proud of it. The line about the pope really cracked me up.
Yo! That chick looked so odd to me, I think she's half Asian, half white, isn't she? You can see that she has colored eyes, but the eye shape looks like it has those slants that Asian people tend to have. She looks pretty, but her facial structure is soo unique to me. You can tell it's a well meshed combination of genes. Not one gene over-powering the other, but just a clean mixture. Very beautiful to see. It's like art.
I discovered you through your Mother video and I have to say that from what I've seen of your content, it's very cozy. The mic quality and slideshow editing gives me nostalgia for the type of videos that'd come out in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and I don't mean that in a back-handed way at all. As much as I appreciate and enjoy modern video essays from the likes of say, hazel or Super Eyepatch Wolf, with their fancy editing and whatnot, there is something charmingly simple about this type of video editing. Takes me back to when it felt like anyone with a laptop, Windows Movie Maker and a shitty headset mic could make a video, no editing experience required.
I've had this video on my "watch later" forever and now that I have watched it, I can say this is probably one of the best put together videos I have ever seen on RU-vid. Adding this one to a favorites list and definitely playing some of these games because I had not heard of a single game on this list except maybe Peggle lol
pretty late replying to this but i wanted to make sure that it was known that i didn't compose ALL of it, most of the music is actually just the soundtracks to the games i showcased, but i did do a lot of the music for the video, like the intro section music and the bit where i'm introducing the white chamber and the credits music and stuff. just wanna make sure i'm not taking credit for anything i didn't do, hahaha. thanks for the comment though!
As a former 5-Guys employee, I can confirm, we do not care if you bring in your subway bag and take a pound of peanuts. Those boxes are limitless in their peanut content. Go nuts guys.
Just wanted to say that I absolutely love this video -- the editing, the music, and the overall cozy vibe. It just feels like a friend showing me some cool free games (many of which I plan on playing now)! I was shocked to see how few subscribers you have and your videos don't have the views I expected them to based on their quality. I've just subbed and I'm about to binge the rest of your videos because you cover so many games and topics that I love and am interested in. I really hope that the algorithm continues to pick this video up and that you get the attention and recognition you deserve! Thank you for this video, this is the kind of content that I've been looking for.
A great video with some fantastic recommendations. It's wild thinking how many more landmark indie titles have come out in the year since this video, to the point they feel like they ought to be enshrined right next to them. I do want to make it clear for the record, though, that I can't claim any credit for RubyQuest inspiring Homestuck. Andrew Hussie was already making puzzle adventures like Problem Sleuth before I started RubyQuest and I think it's unlikely he was inspired by my own work; rather Homestuck was probably a natural evolution from Problem Sleuth. Thanks for the shoutout, though! That first glimpse in the intro made me wonder where it was going.
I found your channel from your Paper Mario video and I've stuck around to watch a lot of your other stuff, but this video really brought me back. Growing up I mainly played Nintendo games and it wasn't until I learned about Steam on my family's computer that I started to really branch out. Since I was a kid with like no budget, my friends and I would play free multiplayer games like TF2 and Unturned, but whenever they weren't online I was usually on the hunt for some new singleplayer games. I played through all sorts of games like Yume Nikki, Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion, but Cave Story stands out the most above everything else. I was looking for something new to play, and my friends Cooper and Noah showed me a game they had been playing through called Cave Story. When I got back home, I went to the website, downloaded it, and played the game all weekend until I had beat it. Hearing you talk about it again with so much passion convinced me to replay it and all those memories really came flooding back to me. You've made a really cozy and awesome channel, and I appreciate you for spreading so much love to these games. Also your suggestions were really great, I loved Purrgatory and Star Fetchers is a pretty cool experience so far!
I'm so happy someone else has played Grimm's Hollow, I love that game. I've been sick in bed all day and I've been binging all of your videos... you have a soothing voice & a great sense of humor! I'm looking forward to more videos from you, plz keep it up! Also god, I haven't thought about homestuck in so long... this video was so informative and well done, I can't wait to try out The White Chamber and Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion!
Really great video! You have great music taste and I love how you sneak in references to different songs, memes, and things in general. You are a cool guy.
I could listen to you say cool all day dude. Your style has that chill "hangin with friends" vibe and appreciation for creative expression that keeps me coming back to creators like Hazel and Thor highheels but with an honesty and sincerity that feels really refreshing. Keep'em coming champo 👍
10 minutes into the video and i really love your style of editing and commentating. Bless the algorithm for showing me this video and bless you for putting yourself on this platform
I love how willing you are to express yourself, your interests, and passion, unashamedly. I spent some time going through your album picks at 43:56, good taste.
Thank u for bringing Star Fetchers to my attention, I honestly felt like it was MADE FOR ME, like I would even go so far to say its a potentially LIFE CHANGING game on the raw strength of its unique presentation, however I think a lot will depend on whether or not we see some further episodes. That said the pilot is shockingly close to perfect and no matter what I will always be grateful to have had the experience of playing it. PS big brain points for using "liet motif" correctly!
That chain of inspiration The White Chamber is responsible for is absolutely mindblowing... It is also not often you see someone who is familiar with original Nier, Touhou, Umineko, and On Cinema, all in one video. You are a rare specimen indeed. You really know your stuff. Thanks for the blast from the past and new game recommendations and for shouting out lesser known devs
Actually it's only been about one year for RU-vid to randomly recommend me this video and I'm glad it did! I love hearing about new and interesting games especially for free and by people who genuinely just want to make a good game for people to play.
Having watched a few of your videos now, I would 100% love to see you cover Yume Nikki, even if there are plenty of other videos on it. I played it when I was younger, too, but it's been forever now. I may have to boot it up again, myself. I never got too far when I played it but man, it stuck with me. I even have some sweaters based on Madotsuki's, it's like etched into my soul or something.
As someone who had his start with games be exactly the kind of stuff you talked about in this video, watching this threw me back to when I downloaded Mortis Ghost's OFF in middle school & subsequently fell in love with the medium of independent games. Yume Nikki was actually the first game that I downloaded off Steam so seeing the video kick off with it felt strangely fitting. I love the music that you used in the Cave Story part of this video, too, it's my favorite track from that game. Thanks so much for making & uploading this!
Really enjoyed this video, I know it's old but keep it up. I feel like you encapsulate a vibe that's really similar to Running Shine, probably one of my favorite channels on here.
despite the fucked audio quality i’m happy with this video and i’ll definitely keep it up, thanks a bunch for the comment man. running shine is one of my favorite channels too, one of my biggest influences for sure :>
I was expecting some same old RPGM classics and then stuff like Newgrounds/Miniclip/CoolMathGames. You got some solid titles here and your comedic style and editing keep me entertained. Thank god for yt recomendations for this gem. Also don't think I didnt see what you're doing on 1:03:29.
What a great video, I got all nostalgic about some of the games you mentioned while also getting introduced to some cool new ones. Your commentary is super cozy and entertaining, I'm gonna put the rest of your videos on during my yearly Cave Story binge.
I'm glad RU-vid is recommending me people like you, yesterday I came across a relatively small channel that had good content (similar to yours where you are doing commentary). And now RU-vid again has blessed my feed with another small RU-vid with good Quality content (imo). Keep up the good effort, I'll be sure to sub to your channel 😇
I really loved your video, you're up there as one of my all time favorites now when it comes to people talking about video games. Thanks for recommending Star Fetchers and Unbeatable, those games were tight as hell. Keep up the great work
42:03 Was definitely NOT expecting you to reference RefRain Prism Memories in this video! One of my favorites shmups and it's a shame how unknown it is. (JK & ZeroRanger are great too!!)
I love your style, dude. Keep doing what you do, your candour and humour are an absolute blessing also your style reminds me of hazel's in a very good cozy way
I thought to myself "Today I am going to watch someone play some interesting niche games that are probably not talked about all that much and show some cool ideas but lack probably lack the polish to garner a long time fanbase" The interesting niche games that are probably not talked about all that much and show some cool ideas but lack probably lack the polish to garner a long time fanbase: 4:32 Mother of god Well, anyway, the way you talk about all this is just very very good, I wouldn't expect this video about deeply treasured experiences that have kept some of us awake at night for decades and go much beyond the expectation of a "fun 'game'" all for the sweet price of free. Thanks for making these videos, looking forward to watch the rest!
Good shit man, I clicked out of curiosity and ended up being captivated for over an hour. You definitely appeal to a lot of my niche interests with the in-between memes
I haven't been able to find time to play video games, unless they're mobile or portable console games, due to college, but this video sure did give me some more things to check out. Not sure when I'll find the time or effort to do this, but you have piqued my interest in Cave Story again. I remember seeing and hearing about it on the internet when I was younger, specifically seeing it on the 3ds eshop and being intrigued by its appearance. Your video had this certain feeling to it that just brought me back to old RU-vid and I really enjoyed that atmosphere
Dude, it's super nice to find someone with taste so similar to mine (and with a far vaster backlog of games). I feel like I can pretty much always trust you to recommend something I'll at least kinda end up liking. It's nice to find a channel like that.
Glad to have my non recorded yet always growing backlog, growing. Also the parasocial feelings hit pretty strong, definitely subscribing. Anyway, couldn't get past chapter 3 of Capital, feels like the dude spends more time being smug about how wrong other economists are than being wrong about money himself, geez.
don't worry about being weird. that's what makes people stick out on RU-vid. a little constructive criticism: the track used in the beginning on the video was slightly too loud and with the mic, it was distracting. otherwise its a great video! very entertaining and good energy. if you're excited about the things you talk about and people will be engaged!
You seem like the kind of person that I could shoot the shit with for years. That's hella weird to say to somebody you'll likely never meet, but you're a cool guy. Please keep doing what you're doing!
I like your style of... videoing. Funny images on the screen with solid edits, and I really enjoyed listening to that five guys peanut bit for some reason
Your content is amazing and i hope you make more videos (if you want to), there is no other content like yours. You are unique and fun to watch, your content is honest and real, i love everything about your videos and it is a blast to watch, watching this made me calm in the best way possible, you did a great job on this video. Thank you for uploading!
There's a 3rd person 3d sonic game made in the doom engine Sonic robo blast 2 We don't ask about sonic robo blast 1 Sonic robo blast 2 also has a ton of mods, its kart mod has its own pages of its own mods
loved this video! i have a bunch of games to check out over spring break now, thank you. your style of speaking is relaxing but still captivating, especially when its obvious that you love a game. could totally listen to hours of you talking about cave story alone. thanks for the video!
So this is my third video I caught from your channel and I really like the cut of your jib. So many of the games you mention here I have never played because I am a bit older and grew up with the NES and onward. I have tried Cave Story, I have it on multiple systems, but I cannot get into that game for some reason. I am not sure why, I love me some Metroid, some would even say a world class love for Super Metroid, but I just never got over that hump of getting into the game and finishing it. Thank you for the perspective and reminder why that game is so important regardless if I have actually played it or not.
y'know when you find a youtube video that you intensely enjoy, a chill video that isn't super parabolic? A hidden gem among a sea of clickbait. That's this. Great job.
Holy sh*t that game where, you hate your job, have to slaughter pigs with a sword. You control your sword with your mouse. I have always wanted that control mechanic in a game! Plus the game just seems Dope as Hell! I love the vibe and aesthetic. I gotta check that one out.
I think it’s a cool choice to keep the writing. It’s the type of aesthetic choice you make to be indulgent. That makes you someone you can identify as an individual artist 🎉
Hey there! I just found out your channel and im glad i did, you reminded me about some great memories about playing some of those gems that now im gonna go back and replay some as well as trying some of the games i didn't knew about it. Great video and i hope for more genuely interesting stuff coming from you.
Cave Story owns, definitely recommend giving it a whirl. If you have a newer system, I’d actually recommend downloading retroarch and the cave story core to run the program through, it makes it run smoother on more modern systems and OSes. pretty easy to set up if you look into it. I didn’t mention this shit in the video at all (regrettably) but it’s the definitive way to play the free version for sure.
Ok, because of this video i need to play every game here because literally all of them seemed super interesting to me (except i already played Cave Story and Yume Nikki like 50 times, but a 51st wouldn't hurt)
I'm so glad quality control is basically gone on steam. I want to be the judge of if a game is/isn't good, and the fact that you can return games makes this actually work out in the end.
