OMG! I have never seen Joel look so nervous and uncomfortable. It is hard to believe that his mum puts the fear of God into him more than Haggis on a plate! In contrast, his mum is so natural in front of the camera. What a lovely person. 💖

As a British person who as eaten many mince pies I can honestly say I’ve never seen anyone eat a mince pie with a knife and fork before.

Your mum is very cool - what an interesting life she and your dad led with all their travels - I could listen to her all day. It explains a lot about your good attitude - I can see how their knowledge of the wider world and their open mindedness towards it has inspired and influenced your appetite for travel. Oh and tell mum not to worry about the stuff you receive from subscribers! It's just a sign of how engaged they are by you.

If you're eating a mince pie cold, just use your fingers and get stuck in. However, the ultimate is warming your mince pie up and having it with a dollop of brandy butter. Definitely eat that with a spoon (probably not a knife and fork, but your mum gets points for trying!)

Your mother is very nice and gave a great practical demonstration as to why we don't use cutlery to eat mince pies. Swearing patterns across the English speaking world are predictable if you consider we sent our criminals to Australia and our religious nutters to the Americas. It's over-simplistic but as a ready-reckoner it works.

Great to see you mum and nice to see Ben again too! She and your dad gave you a great insight into the world with the travels [a bit like mine did - my dad was a British soldier and I lived abroad a lot as a child in the 60's/70's] and fun to hear what you all got up to. Some things said is always embarrassing to the 'cool' kid. You should do more of these! I think everyone can relate to it.

ok. Well I've never seen anyone eat a mince pie with a knife and fork. UNLESS it is Christmas Day and you have it warmed in the oven and covered in cream or brandy butter (boozy cream thing), in which case you would use a fork only, and with your right hand (being right handed).

Yeah, us Brits never eat mince pies with a knife and fork, but your Mum is absolutely right about table manners. You can eat a mince pie on its own with your fingers - no problem, but if it’s placed in a bowel and maybe cream added, then either a tea spoon or a table spoon would be the usual utensil used in that case.

Ben seems to have grown a little since we last saw him - but, man - was he bored!! Your mom's right about the manners thing of course - but she must surely feel reassured that it is precisely because you are so well-mannered, so polite and so real, that you have so many fans! (Don't worry, Mom - quite a few of us have him told in no uncertain terms that if he ever runs into any kinds of problems on his travels, that we'll be here for him; and likewise if he even just needs someone to talk to about some issue that crops up in his life...). She's right about the cutlery thing though, Joel - I told you that ages ago; and you really do need to do video showing us exactly how your neck comes to have those markings...!!! The tea doesn't seem to have made much of an impression - far less the crumbly mince pies, but Rome wasn't built in a day now either, was it?

What I like most about your videos is how natural they are. You have an easy going presenting style which shows enthusiasm about the given subject without unnecessary excitement and flashy graphics. You're genuinely invested in whatever it may be you're showcasing whether its a reaction to British TV, or your epic travelogues. Your P.O. box openings are always entertaining and just as soon as I spot something I know you'll get a kick out of, I'll pop it in the post. Keep doing what you do, you're doing great!

I like the PO Box . It's fun giving things for Jps to try or pass onto others. Jps is obviously not completely poor or destitute so it's not a charity thing. I give to charity at other times. I don't expect or want anything in return from Jps except if he can do the PO box opening and decide if he wants to keep, use or pass it on. It's a bit of fun. A bit like christmas. And helping share something cultural, practical or fun
