I’ve been seeing so many posts from moms who are eagerly awaiting the start of a new school year after spending the summer with their kids.
As a homeschool mom for the last 13 years, I can’t help but feel a bit sad. For me, homeschooling is a marathon; I have the privilege and joy of pouring into my children every single day. Is it challenging?
Absolutely! It’s the toughest job I’ve ever had, and I say that as a former teacher.
Would I trade this experience for anything else?
Not a chance.
One mom I came across said she would rather run a marathon barefoot on Legos than homeschool her kids-
I would rather run a marathon barefoot on legos than not to.
It’s hard, no doubt about it, and it’s not for everyone.
I often hear comments suggesting that homeschooling is only for the privileged or wealthy.
But let me tell you-when we started homeschooling 13 years ago, we were living in cramped quarters, sacrificing our cars, and relying on government assistance.
We were literally surviving on ramen and whatever help we could get. We scraped the bottom of the barrel to get to where we are today.
We relied on libraries, the Dollar Tree, free resources, and nature hikes.
If we could make it work all those years ago, then so can you! If you’re sitting on the fence, thinking you could never do this, I’m here to tell you that I am living proof that it’s possible.
We’ve made sacrifices, but we’ve also created a life where we’re both self-employed, learning skills from platforms like RU-vid.
If you have the desire to pursue something, you can absolutely do it.
Yes, it requires sacrifice, and yes, it takes a marathon mentality, but it is within reach. I want to encourage you today-if you have a dream in your heart, there is a way to make it happen.
Sometimes, I need to give myself a pep talk, especially since I work independently and don’t have a corporate team around me.
I often re-watch my own videos to motivate myself because, let’s be honest, it can get tough out here.
So, if you need a little encouragement today, consider this your pep talk!
