I lived in a studio apartment in Waikiki on the corner of the corner of Kaiulani Ave and the Ala Wai Canal from 93- 97. I paid $525 a month. Included water and trash removal only. I paid the electric cable and telephone myself. I also lived in a cement building the cockroaches were few and small compared to when I lived in Kailua. They were huge and plentiful there😬 😳. I didn’t have AC either just one window that went from the floor to the ceiling. Those windows are called leuvers not slits. Haha. And never take the screens off your windows no matter how high up you are!!. Oahu has a rat problem. If you don’t believe me Google it. My friend lived on the fourth floor of a high-rise concrete brick building and we had the window open wide- no screen. One day she screamed and ran to shut the window because there was a giant rat crawling on the wall outside her window. Then we watched him leap to a nearby tree. Do not walk on the sidewalk next to the Ala Wai Canal at night either, for the same reason. that’s when all the rats come out.
Hahaha im so glad I found yall! You two are cute together! "your faces are not nice!" Lol. That is a cool apartment! You guys are blessed to be able to travel like you have!
Thank you so much! We appreciate hearing that! We have done well for ourselves to this point and hope we can keep managing this lifestyle for years to come!
That is really not bad. I live in Bronx, NY and planning on moving to Hawaii so for a single guy like me that is perfect I could even go up to 2000 a month max. I pay now 1800 and indoor parking is 325 dollars a month so 80 sounds like a steal. Thanks for the info see you in a few short years.....Mahalo
We actually found this apartment on craigslist! You just need to be careful of scams and always look at the place and meet the landlord before signing and paying anything. Definitely check out FB marketplace as well!
You must check the secrets place on the Island, call Makaha Tower Valley, we found this place a long time ago, very cheap, quiet beach, wild animals, very safe, and very cheap to rent or buy go to ( Zillow Makaha tower valley Oahu Hawaii) or MLS
@@howtosimple1143 do u have a tip for Kauai. My daughter and I r moving in January. I'll be a teacher...she is attending the community college. We only need a small one bedroom because of budget
We actually in the short amount of time have haven't had to deal with many bugs, but we also live in a cement building and are blessed to not have them as much as others!! But yes! They can be HUGE here haha
Roofing and Teacher Aid... Nothing special, but just live a very minimalistic lifestyle which allows us to do the things we want when we want:) This island is very expensive, but if you budget properly you can make things work!
Did you find a job before moving there or are you running off savings till you find one? Also what do you need to do to change your info to all of hawaii things? I want to move to hawaii in the future
Not Sure! Maybe a few challenges inside the apartment and some outdoor videos for sure while in Hawaii of hikes and different places to swim/snorkel! Do you have any videos you'd like to see?
Anybody who lives or has lived in Hawaii, any thoughts on my LONG ASS COMMENT would be appreciated. (Really, I'd appreciate advice from anyone who lives someplace WARM, haha.) Anyway... Wow. I'm pleasantly surprised. It's on what island, Oahu? I pay 900 a month by the Art Museum in Philadelphia. Total size-wise it's about the same, but I've got a way smaller bathroom, way less closet space, and your kitchen is laid out way cooler. And I actually have what's considered a really great deal for the area! I actually dig my apartment, but I need to get out of this city. I can't do another Philadelphia winter. Plus, people here are rude and it's so political and crazy. I'm a writer. I want to start over someplace beautiful, where people are chill...and, yes, where the women are in shorts and skirts and flip-flops year round, haha. I was thinking Florida, to be practical. Of course Hawaii would be the dream. I had no idea it was possible. You're paying 400 a month more than me, but it makes me think it's DOABLE at least. Either I'd find something smaller for 1,000 a month or I'd up my game and get a place like that for 1,300. I COULD afford that. It'd be tight, but it's doable. Edit: plus, you have your own PARKING SPOT! To someone in metro Philadelphia, you have no idea what that means. What a find! I don't suppose you could put me in touch with that awesome kind landlord you keep talking about? Haha. (Kidding, but not really.)
hi, unfortunately most places are not this nice for 1300. ive been looking for a studio under 1500 while living on island with little to no luck for well over a month. Parking spaces are absolutely a luxury here as well if you’re looking for a cheap apartment. Florida would probably be much more bang for your buck
Oahu! Kind of around the south side of the island! You can find places cheaper if you are wanting to live with someone (or a group of people), but this is a pretty average price for a studio apartment on the island. I hope this helped!
