Thanks for watching! I forgot to mention in the video but Alaina told me she does not plan to renew her lease. It’s a 1 year fun experience to see what tiny living is like in NYC. I personally think that’s one of the reasons it’s so fun to live here. You can hop around between neighborhoods and try out new living situations all the time!

If you're living in a building where you have to share a bathroom with the other tenants, you DON'T have an apartment - you have a ROOM.

Violates a TON of housing codes. First one = a window is required for living space.

Omg I’m having a panic attack from just watching this and how small this space is. I’m so claustrophobic that there is no way I’d ever set foot in there, let alone live there. That poor dog 😢

I really wish people would ask themselves if their home would be good for the dog instead of just asking if the dog would be good for them.

This is why NYC housing prices will never go down. The demand to able to sleep anywhere in this city is too extreme. Most people work all day or go out all day while spending little time at home, so they wouldn't mind this as a temporary living space. Still, I feel claustrophobic just from watching this video.

The lack of windows gives me serious anxiety. There are prison cells that are nicer than this. People gotta learn that there are a lot of really cool cities outside of NYC and LA.

I love how she’s making it work, but this shouldn’t even be legal. The fact that there was a fight for this space is totally insane.

Honestly, she can get a bigger place in Brooklyn if she looks around. Public transportation is not that bad as they say it is. There are plenty of good neighborhoods in Brooklyn where you won't have issues using the subway going to midtown.

I am a single mom. I just was approved for a three bedroom townhome. $650. It's an income based place that has been totally renovated. I had been on a waiting list for eight years. Edit: I am not apologizing for anything. I am an enrolled member of a tribal Nation. I don't want to live on my REZ. I pay TAXES.

I really feel bad for the dog being confined in this tiny space just because you want to downsize doesn't mean the dog has to suffer 😢

That dog 🐕 ... animal cruelty. I would never leave my dog alone even in my 750 sq ft condo. Must be so bored and lonely. Even she needs to go to the rooftop to escape. Don't encourage this.

Here is clearwater florida a 1 bedroom 750 SF apartment is $2,000 per month. Not including any utilities. I think its high no matter where you live anymore.

I was like “yeah. I could do this! That’s really cute.” Until I saw the bed area. I started to hyperventilate.

the fact that there is no window is a huge deal breaker. not only is that a huge safety concern (mainly fire hazard), but I think I’d legitimately go insane. and the fact that there’s like a 3 foot gap between the bed and the ceiling makes me anxious and claustrophobic just watching this video. otherwise, I think it’s actually a pretty solid spot for the price and location. I do agree with her in that when I lived in NYC from 2014-2015, I realized that I really didn’t need much in terms of living space. props to her for making it work.

She lives in a U-Haul storage unit. $650 sounds like a bargain until we realize that this same space costs roughly from $80-$120 per month at most storage facilities.

I rent something smaller in LA, no windows, minimal ventilation. I have to open the door to make an ac unit work. I just could fit a bunk bed so the ceiling clearance feels a bit better than that. I think is better than an RV , but After 2 years I can say it is affecting my mental health .

"Shift into the living room..." - little glitch - and they sit down on the couch! When I was 17 (in 1971), I had an even smaller apartment in Waikiki. No rental application. No rent. The woman owner, who at that time I would estimate was around my age now (70), made me a deal. All I had to do was rake the courtyard every day for a free apartment. The trees there lose their leaves year round. The "apartment" was like a good-sized closet, but had a bathroom. Shower, no tub.No kitchen. Just enough room for a twin bed. Interesting time of my life. The apartment in this video is a luxury suite. But I can understand that it's acceptable, because many younger people spend their life at their jobs and socializing, and then go home to sleep, clean up, and change. And, having a computer or smart phone makes your space seem bigger.

My claustrophobia hit the roof when we get to her bed. So little space between the ceiling and her bed. It must feel like sleeping in a coffin. I salute these people and their resilience for making it work for them against all the odds.

I don't mind living small, but imagine being there during pandemic and quarantines? Insane!

The craziest apartment or It I ever saw was my sister's place in San Jose CA just like new york apartments are outrageously expensive near the city center where all the action is, she had a room that was in an old Victorian mansion while she was going to college and I swear this apartment room had a bathroom where the toilet was exactly the width of the bathroom area with the door closed so unless you wanted to hoist your legs up street in the air and put your feet on the wall in front of you and pinch one off you would have to keep the door open and have your legs hanging into the living room. Where coincidentally the shower was if you could call it that. That was the funniest part, there was literally a circular cement pad in the middle of the living room which was also the bedroom with metal tubing that held a shower curtain and then hey shower head that came down from a pipe in the ceiling. So you couldn't close the door to the toilet and you showered directly in the middle of your living room slash bedroom this was the late 90s and I think she was still paying like 450 bucks a month for this dump!

That poor dog, seriously. Hopefully the dog gets a ton of walk time.

650 dollars a month? This is about 60 thousand rubles per month. For this money, you can rent a normal apartment with a room, kitchen and bathroom in Moscow.

For $625 per month in North Texas I have a little apartment/unit in a house with a room that doubles as my living room, kitchen (no appliances or washer/dryer), and a bathroom. My friend lives right across from me and we have a lot in the backyard where we lay in the grass or throw around frisbees/football. Our downtown/ nightlife area is a 5-10 minute walk. Living without appliances is annoying but I am grateful to pay so little and have all of this!

Awww I love that she takes her dog to daycare sometimes. They tend to lay around all day but I can’t imagine him being in that small space for too long without anywhere to really go.

We need to have laws against apartments or "houses" this small. People deserve to have a decent kind of life, and that involves a decent place to live.

In Brazil, with this amount you could live in an incredible apartment in the center of São Paulo. I live in one like the one shown in the video in the center of São Paulo and pay around $200 per month

I love NY, completely understand sacrificing space for convenience/location, and to each their own but we honestly have to have a conversation about the diminishing utility and livability of our cities. There comes a point of too dense/too small and if this isn't it, it's definitely close.

Definitely takes a certain level of mental strength to live in something like this. I just feel like I would be claustrophobic in there especially in the bedroom 😂

How do you even find these apts? I've been trying to move to NYC and think I can handle it compared to the rent prices here where you get more space, but can't get anything under $1k by yourself.

When I stayed in China town, my hotel room was a walk in closet. The bathroom and shower were shared. I thought it was cozy for just me. It was only $50 a night. Holiday in was $250 a night. I scored.

I will never understand why people feel New York is the best place to live. The tiny apartments are one thing, but they were completely casual about the fact there were rats, and how nowhere in NY is safe from them. Mind-blowing.

That price sounds about right. I was paying $350 a month for a space about half that size in Seoul about 13 years ago.

They compared it to a dorm, but I've never even seen a dorm that small. Also I can't imagine I'd be comfortable sleeping in a space with the ceiling inches above my face.

A traditional-sized home must feel absolutely massive for people who have lived in tiny spaces!!

I live in the Midwest and I live in a 3 br, 2.5 ba home that is 1600 Sq ft, our mortgage payment is a little more than her rent. I think I will keep my house with some land over her NYC apartment.
