This takes Hawaiian culture and makes it seem like it isn't a sacred and important part of our culture. It's the same thing as people dressing up in "hawaiian" clothing for Halloween or for some dumb "aloha" themed party

Disculpe, si bailan muy bien pero eso no es hula, la música si pero el baile no, para los hawaiianos ese baile es sagrado y espiritual y ciertos movimientos y cosas están prohibidas, ese movimiento de cadera no es propio del hula, y tampoco enseñar el ombligo, ya que para ellos por ahí se saldría todo el conocimiento al momento de bailar, lo confunden demasiado con el ori tahiti, pero creo que con tanta información en el internet ya viene siendo buen momento de cultivarnos y dejar de modificar las tradiciones de un pueblo que batallo demasiado para conservarlas.

Hula has a special significance to the Hawaiian people, both spiritually and culturally. Every gesture tells a story and has a special meaning when expressed. I'm sure that they did not mean to be disrespectful when they were dancing this, but they're just a bunch of white people inadvertently mocking someone else's culture in an effort to try to be cute.

No. I dont get why you as a Black Woman do not see what this is. Its cultural appropriation. I dont see people doing this shit with Native American dances, or with Inuit dances, or west African religious dances so why is it okay for you guys to trample all over our culture. What makes me more annoyed, is I never see them trying to fuse THIER folk dances with other dances. What so European cultural dances are to remain pure, and they can bastardize everyone else's traditions? Hula is not just a d as nice for us. We come from a culture that didn't have writing before contact with non Polynesians, and Hula is our way conveying history, genealogy, and religious practices. And now it is even more important as a way of preserving out culture. If they want to fuse dances, then they are welcomed to do it to THIER dances. Not ours. And then the fact that they are dancing to a song about one of our beloved Kings. How utterly disrespectful. I am Black as well, and I can't understand why as a Black woman your eyes can be so blinded. Educate yourself. We Hawaiians are not your decoration, or playthings.

@@omggiiirl2077 they actually mix their culture with others as well :), have a look at slavic tribal belly dance or russian tribal belly dance. I myself love looking at different mixes, for me it is very creative:) but that's just me.

There is a such thing as fusion dances. And that’s what they did. They did hula and belly dances. There’s nothing offensive about it. I’m not Hawaiian, but I am a dancer. There’s nothing offensive about this.

That’s not true at all. Before colonizers came and ruined Hawaii, Hula was the record and way of sharing history with others. It is not just a “dance”. It is a language. A language that is not for anyone else to appropriate or bastardize with a belly dancing fusion.

Thank you for setting the record straight. I am not Hawaiian myself but you have to respect something so beautiful that a culture has invested to preserve. No need to water it down.

What we are trying to say is if your going to learn or label a dance that’s our do it right. Hula is something so sacred to us. It can’t just be “mixed”

I agree. I have been dancing as long as I can remember and I feel the same way you do. Hawaiian culture is widely exoticized in today's society and it is shameful that people won't respect it. REAL, authentic Hawaiian culture is beautiful and I hope that one day people will appreciate it. Aloha nui

thats whats happen when you only care about the looks ( it looks bad though) and not the meaning. It sadly happens alot. This really feels wrong to me, something that should not exist.
