Love the Hawaiian Chip Company's fresh fried taro and sweet potato chips along with their ono savory sprinkles. Owner is super nice and so is his staff.
Foods I learned to love in Hawaii and still think about all these years later(they're not Hawaiian per-se though) Manapua, saimin, maladsads, Terri beef, pancit, lumpia, char-siu, kaluha pork & all kinds of crack seed- especially rock salt plum & li hing mui. And guava cake from that bakery with the pink box😋
Drink would be Hawaiian sun Passion orange. Appetizer would be shoyu ahi poke and spam musubi. Main dishes would be kalua pig, poi and laulau from Helena's. Dessert would be da coco puffs from Liliha Bakery and malasadas from Leonard's
Love the fried chicken right when it comes out of the fryer and their inari (cone) sushi. I'm surprised that I have friends from Maui who have never tried the Minit Stop chicken and inari sushi.
Sorry im cheap, but I'd start with Kauai koffee or lychee juice. Leonard's bakery malasada. Plate lunch (shoyu chicken) at rainbow drive inn. Not a big fan of hulihuli chicken. Local shave ice (waikiki is mainland style, so avoid) with ice cream (no like azuki beans). Haupia. Brok da mout
Dang, you got me home sick lol. Ironically both of your number one main dishes… No mo in Japan. Get almost everything else, but we could sure use Zippy’s and Off The Hook!
Appetizer: spam or other musubi or Manapuas Entree: Hamura Saimin special Cafe 100 (almost anything) Tasty Crust/Oyako Tei (Maui) Dessert: Lilikoi pie at Hamura Saimin Lappert's and Dave's Ice cream Drinks: Big Island Brewhaus/Ola Brewing.
Forgot to mention, don’t think there anymore (checked google map several times) looks like they tore down the small L-shap shopping center it was in, sat right in the corner/bend of the “L” under the stairs to the upstairs, left side just before you got to the Waianae Realtor on the right. Only open for breakfast and lunch then closed. LOVE that place, was over twenty five years ago 🥲. 🤙🏼❤️🇺🇸🤠
I wish I knew the name of a tiny parking lot eatery next to a large marine hardware warehouse, somewhere between Pearl and Honolulu. Had teriyaki and rice there every day for months. Also, beef and broccoli at Patti's at the Ala Moana mall...that was great. So sorry it's gone.
You make me homesick lol. Pork laulau, any poke or lomi o`io, poi, Haupia, kalua pig, more poi, huli huli chicken. You are such a cute couple. Jesus to bless your marriage. MAHALO from Huachuca City, Arizona
This is a great video for tourists. We need to be educated on the importance of supporting local hawaiian food. They are really deliciuos! My first time watching you both together and I enjoyed it.
Just visited your amazing island a couple of weeks ago and my family and I have a wonderful time. I wish we got to watch your videos prior going there especially the food that you’ve mentioned on this video. Looks so good. But for sure will be going back there soon and will try this food. Thank you for sharing your wonderful island and making this owe some videos.
Hello from Del Mar, CA! Love this subject that you so kindly shared with us. I have to say that only in Hawaii have I experienced "waiting in line" for any kind of food, but it has always rewarded me for my patience.
My choices would be poi, squid lū’au (p.s. it's made of taro leaves), opihi and poke. Those are what I look forward to eating when coming home from traveling.
Three suggestions based on what's in your video: 1. Manapua from believe it or not, a kiosk within Time's Supermarket at Kamehameha Shopping Center. I tried them here once years ago, and never wanted to get them from anywhere else. Trust me, I've purchased them from many manapua shops. I agree with you, Char Hung Sut and Libby's were great; sorely missed. 2. Pork Hash from Island Manapua Factory; either in Manoa or Kalihi. They don't have the large crunchy water chestnuts, so that's why I like them. 3. Beef Stew Bowl from 99 Local Mix Plate at Kingsgate Plaza. Tender beef, potato and carrots. ENJOY!
00:10 Zip Pack. Pre-Covid I would always buy a Zip-Pack on my way home returning from Vegas or any extended trip and I didn't have to clean up after eating. Waiting for Zippy's to go full on 24 hours at the stores that did so before. Ewa Zippys is 24 hours during the weekend now (April 2023).
Ditto the ZipPac. And I would have them sub out the fish for extra fried chicken. I would save the fried chicken for last and totally eat every bit of chicken attached to the bone. I'm training my grandkids to dismantle and eat fried chicken from the ZipPac.
I always enjoy your videos so much, especially the ones where you include your wife, who’s delightful. So much good food - too hard for me to choose. But from here on the main land, good poké has to be up there!
You’re wife is smart I’m not one to waste money on Starbucks everyday either Starbucks is so expensive and addicting and I heard when you add milk or cream to coffee it cancels out the polyphenols that makes coffee healthy 😢and if I ever had a last meal to choose from Hawaii it would be a huge plate with poke Akule poi chicken lau lau and a nice size block of Kulolo .oh and no rice 🍚 the poi is the starch
Mahalo nui, Chris for your sweet thoughtful note the other day re visiting my workplace ... it's more than appreciated. Warmest aloha & happy autumn to both of you !
Yes!! Off the Hook is literally the best poke on island! I also make all our visitors try the beef stew from L&L because it's my favorite meal (I gotta have mac though)! Thanks for all your awesome content!
My wife Yuko is from Oita Kyushu, Japan and wow! we are so blessed with the different flavors and cultures that you can find in local foods, I'm a big fan of the variety of lunch/dinner plates and yes!! L & L, Zippy's still make great grindz!! Yuko loves the poke' but I cannot eat raw seafood, has to be cooked. Mahalo brah!
Awe I loved seeing you both talk about food. Wallflower is really great. Uncle's too. I love the poi donuts from Kamehameha bakery too. Ube is one of my favs. I love O'Kim's fusion here and Fete's Korean Fried Chicken sandwich on brioche, Goofy corn fried rice, ubae's soft serve. sorry, that was a lot lol
Green River! We have Hawaiian Sun, Aloha Maid, & POG in Las Vegas. Manju from Home Maid Bakery or Sam Sato's (Maui), Big Island Candies half-dip chocolate Okazuya from Kawamoto's (Hilo), Hilo Style Oyster Chicken, Fried Kole
At our L&L locations here in San Diego they don't offer beef stew ☹️ If I had to get my very last ever meal from Hawai'i it would definitely have a bit from Zippy's, Chun Wah Kam & Liliha Bakery lol 😋
Mmmmmm… POG. I order it on Amazon by the flat once a year. It’s expensive but a must. My son thought he was in heaven the first time he tried it. Pupus: Malsadas…. Spam Musubi…. Char sui Manapua (I remember the Manapua man. When I heard he passed I cried.) Main course: chicken Katsu, kowbi, real saimin with fish cake. Desert: I’d just go to Anna Millers in Aiea just down the hill from Pearl Ridge Mall. I have called to see if they would ship pies to the mainland. That was a late night stop after going to the movies on a Saturday night.
I was talking with my family about this the other day we were talking about if we were on death row what would be our last meal. Lomi salmon, my wife's fried rice, Lau Lau poi and furikaki chicken. Broke the mouth!!!
'Popcorn' green Tea & Rice ochazuke nori with heap of kalua pork on the side. And the lilikoi-guava drink with ice cubes. Then haupia fo dessert with the same tea. 😆
I believe the Meadow Gold POG is still sold here in WA, I haven't bought any for about 4 years but I think it's still available, we do have items from Hawaii but I gotta drive 1.5 hours to the Uwajimaya market to get anything Hawaiian, one thing we don't have and I'd like to get from Hawaii is the Zip Pac, I can get the frozen Zippy's chili and that's about it.
Loved this video!! We’ve been in Hawai’i for a month now and loved a few things of what you and your wife picked!! POG by Meadow Gold (they say they will start selling in mainland soon) Croissant Bites - so addicting Poi Mochi Donuts - an absolute must Pork Hash - we loved Sin Cheung Yuan’s but will need to try Chan Wah Kam Beef Stew - we tried it at Fort Ruger and Helena’s but will check out L&L too Poke - Off the Hook is soooo fresh and wit all da toppings Ted’s Bakery Chocolate Haupia Pie - one of our faves
Next time you’re on Kauai try an açaí bowl from Kalalea Juice Hale, they make the best açaí bowls on the islands in my opinion. We go every single day when we’re in the island!
Check out Aiea Bowls Pumpkin Crunch and Oxtail Soup. Both are on my list. Zippy’s greatest secret is their turkey neck soup. Basically oxtail soup at 60% off. Now you have to order early or else it sells out. Coming in October fam! I’ll be getting at least 10 of those.
Fresh grilled local fish, fresh poke, fresh and ripe pineapples, mangoes and papayas. No can get Mainland. There are also some really great Thai and shrimp food trucks on The Islands.
@@HelloFromHawaii They are called rocks. It is rare to get a mango that is picked even half-ripe. I don't know why people buy them as they never ripen off the tree. Most are from Mexico but so are some in Hawai'ian markets and swap meets.
Mushroom chicken plate from Times Kaimuki is as homemade as you can get. Served on Wednesdays. You'll be back for more. Other Times locations can't compare. Liliha's mushroom chicken is a misnomer and disappointing, it's actually chicken cutlet. Oh boy, my mouth watering just thinking of that Times Kaimuki (Kaimuki Shopping Center lower level) mushroom chicken!
We need both of you to review the best shaved ice past & present in the islands. One of the best places that is not around was Hawaii Kai had a Maui Snow shave ice stand before Foodland. They had regular flavors I think, but their top sellers was the flavors of Watermelon, Strawberry and Pineapple, as if you can visualize a quality like Matsumoto's with the taste of Maui's Guri Guri stand. It was same creaminess and taste of the Strawberry, Watermelon and Pineapple, but it was regular syrup drizzled over and if it was regular strawberry with condensed milk, it would have been pink in hue and not dark red. It was great and after a hot day at the H bay, it hit the spot. It was always packed.
Hella respect for Hawai’i. I would choose malasadas for appetizers, main dish would be grilled mahi mahi with a side of carrots, oranges , pineapple and snap peas . For desert malasadas.
One correction bee's It's "He"e Luau" and Not squid It's is made with octopus. Being a chef I have been trying to correct kanaka maoli okay Malama Pono Aloha Nui Unko
I love the quirky, mixed cuisine from Hawaii. I love it all except SPAM, which to me is mystery meat. I adore Loco Moco best. Yummm! POG (which they sell in Seattle, too), is great. Haupia is wonderful (Well, anything coconut is #1 to me). I love Malasadas, as well. Give 'em to me just plain no toppings please. I love King's Hawaiian bread. I love most plate lunches. I love pork hash, as well. Kalua Pork anything is terrific. Hurricane Popcorn is great, but, I have never found it stateside. Crunchy rice cakes are wonderful, when made well. Katsu Pork is wonderful when made well. Zippy's chilis (and plate lunches) are great, but ... please hold the darn SPAM. Crispy deep-fried shrimp, from Haleiwa Joe's is great. Isn't beef stew, with chunks of beef, and still slightly un-cooked (not mushy!) vegetables, great? And ... when nothing else on the menu looks good, rest assured that there is always Saimin, folks. I love that soup. Now, in Seattle, I think it is called Udon Soup, after the thick white noodles which are used to make it here. Desserts are not my bag, as much. That is just me. Aloha, -- Abbie
strawberry guava drink/wet lemon peel/wet li hing mui mango/ lau lau and poke shoyupeppawada unda da banyan tree Hygenics/pickle mango and haupia shave ice Waiola/pineapple cake Ted's my last day meal in Hawaii.
How I capture the leakage from the plate lunch box is I bring a gallon ziploc bag & when I get my plate lunch I put it in there. My tops are pupus: beef skewers, musubi bake, fried noodles/saimin Entrees Kal bi from TED’S katsu on chow fun noodles at Diners (😂😂😂😂) Surf Pac from Zippys desert: shave ice with ice cream & Azuki beans from Baldwin’s Lychee ice cream from Lapperts & my favorite Rainbow 🌈 sherbert from ONO ONO sherbert
you guys driving me crazy!!! im coming back in nov so i plan to fill my own cravings, thx!...as an aside, i always get loko when people pronounce poke as "poke" haha! only older people will tell you it is/was pronounced as "poki"...oh well...
Loved your guys choices! I'm not so specific about where to get my choices, because I'm not living there now. My last time back to Hawaii, the first meal I had was a Zip Pac and dobash cake (I texted a picture of them to a friend on the mainland, who I met when he was serving at Hickam AFB, to make him jealous.) So that's definitely one of my favorites. Hawaiian plate from Highway Inn was another main dish I had to get when I was back. For appetizers, I have to go with opihi and tako poke. Oh, yeah, can't forget lop chong manapua. And for dessert, I'll pick halo halo and haupia. Really, it's impossible to narrow down the choices to only those things, because I miss it all, but that's a good start for me. Almost forgot. Plantation iced tea for my drink. Always just the right amount of pineapple mixed in when I get it in Hawaii. Dang! You guys wen make me hungry and now I no can have da kine stuffs fo eat.😋😋😋🤙 BTW, Mrs. Hello From Hawaii, Squid luau is made with luau (taro) leaf and coconut milk. 😜👍
