The underrated player in UH’s title runs: Brett Sheward (Libero). Was the starting setter after Joe Worsley aged out, he was subbed off by Coach Wade, going with Thelle a few years back. Wade repurposed Brett into the Libero spot, where he has quietly flourished alongside Thelle. UH is my pick to 3-peat in May.
Actually, Jakob Thelle was the starting setter after Joe Worsley, but when the team went on the road in 2020, Thelle got subbed out after the 1st set on two matches for Sheward. Then Sheward was the starter from then on for the season, until he got subbed out in the 2nd match against BYU by Thelle. Thelle sealed the deal as starting setter with the win against BYU, and UH has benefitted from Jakob's leadership. 🤙
The triple block at 2:10 blocking the cross spike, forcing the spiker to hit a straight spike into No. 7 and then the setter giving a perfect set to No.23 which gives him a couple of options but goes for the crazy cross spike OVER the triple block was amazing
23:35 is the reason that UCSB's setter transferred from Hawaii. He's playing 2 years backup to UH's #10 Jakok Thelle, through 2 National Championships and would have been sitting on the bench this year also if he remained at UH. I'm glad Jack Walmer is starting setter at UCSB but as long as Thelle is there, it was his 6'6' size, his serving ability, his distribution of sets that added more diversity to the offense, but also his blocking ability as well makes him the right choice as starter. Out of the 20 years + of watching UH volleyball, I have never seen an over serve spike blocked back by a setter. Middles or Outside hitter yes, but setter? It was such a surprise that the delay for the whole gym took a while for both sides to recompose themselves as to if that really happened.
Seeing Hawaii on this channel feels like a celebrity guest appearance haha. Also, watching them from this angle helps realize how crazy they really are.
Chakas has such an unconventional arm swing, but man is he effective with it. Hawaii is just a level above everybody else, dangerous all in all hitting positions. Tough to stop. Galloway had a really good game, which I usually don’t see when he is on the home game telecasts. Fun team to watch.
Setter Block (10) at 22:38 has to be one of the most hype points of this video. Straight up KOBE! xD Also, @moomoocowjonny what team do you personally support, if not all CA teams?
i cannot just watch 16:29 and not comment about how ANNOYING that was.. the setter used the irritation and frustration aftermath that happens after the outside hitter dug to block out to easily score a point with an annoying dump, that setter has a ton of field awareness and is really smart, but he is annoying as hell
