Hu I am now 78 years old and Hawaiian music extends my life span, not joking at all.9/2/20.
@@RobertSJHu God Bless you Robert, we in Hawaii are blessed indeed. I'm grateful to have found my way here to the Big Island in 1973. I lovingly remember the fabulous Hawaiian renaissance. So glad I got to be here for it. This song always made me cry, as many Hawaiian songs do. I remember George Helm when he was alive, and the Protect Kahoolawe guys. The sweetest most lovely days and years, here in beloved Puna. Now 48 years later the wonder of this place has not faded from my heart. The world needs the Aloha Hawaii has always embodied, now more than ever as evil encroaches. May Love light our way in this dark time!
Aloha to you Annie Coleman !!! Thanks for your kind comments and the fact that Hawaiian culture welcomes those newcomers who embrace the island style of living in harmony with everyone !!!! Take care and may God continue to bless you and your family !!!! Love, Robert April 16, 2021.

I used to go to the Gold Coin to hear George Helm sing when I was in high school. His falsetto was truly a beautiful gift, and his dedication to Hawaiian activism, including the Protect Kaho'olawe 'Ohana when he disappeared, was a great loss. This beautiful song is a fitting tribute to his memory.
Yes, what a tragic loss of George Helm. I never heard him sing. I am glad that you had that opportunity to hear him. What a blessing. My cousin Jon used to play a set, following George Helm on stage. Jon wrote this song in honor of George Helm Jr., hopefully carrying his music, life's work and teachings far into the future.
@@mariahthibodeau221 I also remember Jon & Randy (and Country Comfort, and some others) at the Gold Coin. This song is iconic and so important for the memory and legacy of George Helm, Jr. because he never really recorded an album or became a popular "performing artist" -- his activism was more important to him at the time --and if not for the live recordings that were made at the Gold Coin restaurant/tavern and a few rare videos of him singing. most of the world would not know of his hauntingly beautiful voice and enormous musical talent and without this song, most people would probably not be aware of what he gave his life for and what he is remembered for by all that knew him. Dr.Jon Osorio has certainly done a tremendous job in Hawaiian education and carrying on the legacy and goals inspired by this Hawaiian Soul.
Peter Moon is so excellent, how beautiful the melody, you must be so proud william of your dad's voice(wofford). So haunting, it tugs at your heart strings.
Back In My Younger Days I Played This Soothing Music To My Otes Boy And He Like It And As He Grew. He Begin To Play This Song I Was Shock The Boy Can Play The Same Song Too. /Good Job\/👦 👍💗
+wjb72 I neva know Steve (Wilba) sang this song all these years ! He used to hang out and jam with my two younger brothers at our house in Ewa Beach back in the early 70's . One other good singer and guitar player was this guy Gene (Lac) .
