The symposium, "I Ka Pono: The Future of Hawaiian Sovereignty," examines the resurgence of Native Hawaiian nationalism today and offers a variety of perspectives on what the future of Hawaiian sovereignty might best look like. In this segment, Williamson Chang, University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law, speaks on "A Century of Occupation: The Failure of the United States to Acquire the Hawaiian Islands."
Williamson B. C. Chang, professor at the University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law, graduated from Princeton University and the University of California, Berkeley Law School. He clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Dick Yin Wong in Honolulu and began teaching at the University of Hawai‘i the following year. In his earlier years he was a special deputy attorney general representing the Chief Justice of the Hawaii Supreme Court, a special legislative assistant to the United States Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs, and a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the University of Western Australia. As of late he has pursued a deep interest in Native Hawaiian sovereignty, teaching courses in Water Rights, the Legal History of Hawai‘i, and in Nation Building. He is presently a delegate to the 2016 Native Hawaiian Constitutional Convention and is currently working on a revised history of modern Hawai‘i that challenges United States jurisdiction over the Hawaiian Islands.
The symposium is presented in conjunction with the museum's exhibition, "E Mau Ke Ea: The Sovereign Hawaiian Nation," on view through January, 2017. For more information, see the exhibit web site: www.nmai.si.edu....
The symposium was webcast and recorded in the Rasmuson Theater of the National Museum of the American Indian on January 30, 2016.

Every time I watch a presentation about the illegal annexation it blows my mind. It’s even more ridiculous hearing senators in 1959 realizing the crime and then covering it up. With more education we will get our country back! Mahalo!

Do not compare us to the native American Indians. We are a seperate issue. There needs to be more talks in the states, and other countries so they all know the true facts not lies.

Thank you god and thank you RU-vid get the truth out and teach everyone the truth and the truth will make you free. Restore the Hawaiian kingdom and the constitutional monarchy. A king or queen of kanaka decent with a good heart can correct things a lot quicker then a congress or senate of people. Aloha

Hey Williamson Chang when I research the bad tendency clear and present danger doctrine.the clear and present danger side that covers like free speech. And the bad tendency doctrine covers for example if there were to be an Overthrow of the American government by a rogue group. And there was a couple of case laws that came out of these doctrines. Wondering as captivated as I were from these doctrines. Because we had a similar Overthrow and it was from the American government who wrote these doctrines. So my question is a simple one would this have any consequential effect on our Overthrow as far as those doctrine goes. And would America be responsible and finally be charged for this.

The State of Hawaii came into the Union after the United States gave it's authority to the United Nations.

Ounce acceptance happened Hawaii came under the Articles of Confederation by that organic document still being a law. If that didn't happen then a U.S. citizen has no rights of any kind.

It's all assumed by our acceptance and application for S.S. and that you said on those applications your United States citizens. Military law is the law of assumptions under commercial laws of Admiralty

@@MichelleBeahm So what?? Japanese are ka pono. The Hawaiian monarchy were very close allies of the Japanese, and even offered to merge the royal families of the two nations? Japanese lived and worked alongside Hawaiians for many decades, and were naturalized as Hawaiian subjects. "Pearl Harbor" was a defense of the Hawaiian people from US invaders. We know the history. Are you jealous that white people arenʻt the premiere group involved or something? What is wrong with you?
