I was a 11B1PC2 Dragon Missileer in the 82nd ABN 1981-1985. For Fulda we had the Triple AD, Airborne Anti-Armor Defense in a NBC hotwar. We called ourselves Speed Bumps in CPOGs. Throw chemical weapons into the mix and you have a very different type and form of warfare and flying CAS/NBC.

Very interesting insights and very different from the COIN ops scenarios that dominate DCS Hawg content. A Hawg in its natural habitat is a beautiful thing.

Love what you're doing with this series and hope it opens the way to exploring other aircraft in their "natural habitats" as a group. Can't wait to join in once I move to a home-every-weekend route.

Interesting research on these topics and putting them to practice. Ir is intriguing to see that the Cold War role of the Hog was a very different role it came to assume after the Wall fell. Watching this made me realize why the Hawgs were used on Desert Storm the way thy were, assuming an enormous variety of functions and missions during that war. And you are right: we don't get to listen to the fast attack boys. They have a different role to fulfill. But in this scenario, A-10s, TOW Cobras, Broncos, Kiowas, and Apaches would have the time of their lives.

I always meant to ask, what sources did you use to understand the unit composition of Warsaw pact forces of the time? I’ve been watching Battle Order videos here on RU-vid, but I never found info on the air defense battery.

understanding your work as a spotter for Artie, that strikes me as being a unit using a unique naming system. were you also expected to liaise with air assets on the names for features of the a.o.?
