If a defendant cannot get a fair trial with competent legal representation that argues vehemently on his behalf, then he must be let go. What happens if you're accused of a crime and all lawyers refuse to represent you because your politics will hurt their brand? Everyone deserves to be represented. Even as heinous as the crimes he committed were, and believe me I would volunteer to put him on the wall and handle it myself had that verdict came down, but he still deserves a fair trial
