Rider died immediately after from hitting a rock, small bump, deer, squirrel, kid on bike, and grandma backing out of driveway. Unfortunate but he totally deserved it. * edit * the rider also hit a turtle, and this is a residential area. God bless.

After 50 years of riding all kinds of bikes ( five as a motorcycle cop) without a single accident the idea of 200 mph on a public road really scares me. I've investigated a number of fatal motorcycle accidents and it's usually because of speed, lack of training, equipment failure, blown tire, engine explosion, thrown chain or striking other vehicles. All of those conditions could have been easily avoided and a number of fine young men would have been alive today. Like Dirty Harry said: "A man has to know his limitations". Live to ride, ride to live. Stay cool my friends.
@MmmHuggles
@MmmHuggles 7 месяцев назад
Speed, in and of itself is fine. It's the slowing down too fast that will get you, or meeting an object moving too slowly in the wrong direction. Don't hit anything and don't stop too fast and it's fine. The problem is, the faster you go, the less time you have to react, and the human brain does have limits and there is a lag time between our sensors (eyes, ears, etc) sensing and brain figuring it out and our brain making a decision on that. Personally, the fastest I've ever been with a vehicle is right under 100mph. Don't trust my sensors enough to do more lol. I'm much happier around 45-55mph.

When you wake up in the middle of the night, half awake, you have a sudden lucid thought: you should sell all your motorcycles, and never ride on the street again, and probably never on the dirt either. Then the next day comes and your partner wants to go on a ride, and you realize that you can't sell the bike. There's something so special about being on a mountain road, alone in nature, with no walls or barriers. It's a constant inner struggle, as you can never shake the feeling of danger, but you cannot imagine a life without that beautiful machine.

Riding that fast on a two-lane, undivided road with multiple access points and driveways is suicidal. I once rode my 2000 929 over the Fred Hartman bridge in Houston at 140 MPH, and it felt as stable as the chair I'm sitting in as I write this. But the only reason that wasn't suicidal is there was no way anything could have gotten in my way.

There could have been something laying in the road like debris or a car part or whatever, and that could have caused you to crash if you suddenly collided with it. I pushed our ambulance up to 142 and that fucker floated like a bitch. Long story short, we were the closest ambulance and there was a call for a 2 year old that kept stopping breathing and we were 45minutes away per GPS. No surrounding counties could send an ambulance and the chief was on scene and told me to "get there NOW". We got there and kept him breathing and got him to a children's ER. But oddly enough the chief sent all the units in to the shop over the next week for "service" and they all came back with governors on them. It turned out he had placed trackers on all, the units the month before and didn't tell anyone. He was OK with us pushing 90 and such but he told me later when he saw me hit 137, he thought he was gonna have a heart attack. No one would have survived if we had made contact with another vehicle at that speed. Hence the governors. He thought about writing me up but him ordering me to "get there NOW" killed any chance if I filed a grievance for it.

Hit that on an RF900 at 3am once, it was on a 5 mile straight section of motorway. At that speed it felt more like a few hundred yards. Terrifying part is the bike was heavily loaded up with luggage, and it still had more to give! You get used to those speeds too, that journey was on the way to and from university. Took about 3 tanks of fuel, I would top it off, hit the road, spool up to 100mph, and not drop below that even once until I had to switch to reserve.

Ends up being a local city cop(driving instructor) who is failing to identify. I still don't know who, State Patrol, FBI, or Homeland Security that let this flunky know he would be an idiot to continue to threaten me with impound an jail. I don't know if its real speed and/or how much is the deviation compared to true speed, but I've reached the dash and kept the pointer there (350 km/h) numerous times, again and again. Back in the 1970's I had a brand new BMW motorcycle. My friend and I were touring Canada along the Trans Canadian Highway. We traveled from one city to the next, exactly 100 miles apart, in just under an hour. That means we were averaging over 100 MPH for an entire hour. But you are right, "It's not a matter of IF you will crash, but a matter of when." Every one of my riding buddies had a crash except me. Fortunately all survived. One day reality set in and I gave up riding for good. I realized the odds of avoiding a bad crash were not on my side.

The laws of physics regarding motion are inescapable. A motorcycle weighing 550 pounds and a rider weighting 200 pounds doing 293 feet per second has a lot of momentum, and things going in a straight line resist turning, especially at higher velocities. Also keep in mind the motorcycle crankshaft, transmission, final drive sprockets, brake rotors and wheels are all very powerful gyroscopes on this moving package, they also very much resist changing direction.

My friend did this last year. I saw him the other day. He gained a bunch of weight. The ambulance dropped him off to see his family that lives in the same complex. They need 6 guys to get him up and down the stairs for doctors appointments. They make all kinds of noise too with the backup siren on the ambulance. We were talking and I learned that when you are completely paralyzed (for life) sans one arm, your body does not heat or cool itself anymore. Things you take for granted, like sweating. So when he runs a fever from sitting- for life, it is a very big deal. He spends his days and nights otherwise in a bed, in a sketchy section 8 apartment, all alone. His neighbors will steal his expensive chair to get cash for drugs. It's a bad scene. His new family has mostly left him. He was a young, good looking and funny guy. A good rider- but rode too fast. He had just landed a great new job too. Funny thing, he was about to sell his bike. One last, high speed ride on a sunny day. Docs say he will continue to decline and have more issues as he gets older. He takes all kinds of pain drugs. There is no hope for any recovery. I sold my bike. Yes, it was fun. I was more lucky than good for the 20 years I rode but I do not want to push my luck. You simply cannot control other drivers. No regrets. Stay safe out there. Don't be impressed with speed.
