I once had a FF trainer recommend that I try AROMATHERAPY and soft music with my chihuahua that was born with extreme anxiety… yeah- Just bust out some eucalyptus essential oil and classical music next time you see a dog fight 😂 These people are absolutely insane.

Dogs aren't born with "extreme anxiety", it's usually due to not being environmentally socialized during it's fear period as a puppy, it's a rehearsed behavior that's rewarded by its owner's soothing, "oh Pookie it's ok, mommy's here, don't worry. . . . blah, blah, blah. You need to get that dog out and working through its issues using a confident demeaner.

@@cherylmillard2067”socialization” is such an over used word in dogs. It’s desensitization. Dogs need desensitization. Neutrality. Not “socialization”. I’m not coming at you. Please don’t take it that way. People just over use the crap out of that word. Dogs need to be desensitized and neutral. Not trying to play with every person and dog they see. Or attacking or running from. Neutral. It gives the most control and most options for both human and dog.

FF trainer with Mase? They would first drug him then euth him. Sad truth - my very first dog is 90 lb GSD husky bully X is reactive and has ridiculous prey drive. I was being dragged over &.he was chasing wildlife nipping at cyclists etc. I live on Vancouver Island and most local dog services are R+ I didn't know better drank the coolaid wasted time $ etc. at first private consult with respected local EXPENSIVE behaviourist er cat appeared and my dog went bollywonkers in my vehicle with us in it. She scattered treats everywhere in my brand new jeep. My dog didn't give AF he wanted that cat. I drive us away and first thing she said was we may need medication. I'm thinking hell NO-It's prey drive a trazodone isn't going to quell it. Sigh. We are doing way better since I found Shield K9 thank god for all that you do bless you.

Haz, I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. At present, I don’t own a dog, but I have had dogs in the past, a Siberian husky being the last dog that I owned. I wish you were on RU-vid back then because I would’ve done a much better job at managing my reactive husky. It took me much trial and error, and going to a few trainers to finally get the relationship with my Siberian husky that I wanted as well as allowing her to prosper in the rest of the world. Again it wasn’t until I went to a professional dog trainer that I was able to manage the reactivity of my dog. You are spot on with your videos, and I appreciate you providing all of this free sage advice on how to train dogs. There are so many trainers out there and it’s rare to find trainers like yourself willing to give this information for free. There are way too many trainers out there that want to give human qualities to animals. This is just not the case animals whether or it is dog, a cat, a horse etc. Animals do not have the same mental capacity as a human being. They work on very basic principles and you point that out when you’re training the animals . Keep up the great work many of us do appreciate what you’re providing us.

Been a dog trainer since I was 5 years old. My grandfather trained police dogs. I was taught to train the way you train. I had a business for years and went to positive only. The difference in the quality of the dog behavior is striking. I am back to training the way I was first taught. I currently have 9 dogs. 1 pit lab mix. 2 pit lab boxer mixes. 1 black mouth cur. 4 shepherd husky black mouth cur mixes. Finally, 1 pug jack Russell mix. Since I became disabled I haven't been as strong with my dogs, but they still listen to me. I taught them that it is not the best thing to not listen. Positive only doesn't work with most dogs. As soon as I save some money I have to send my bitches up to you to be trained. I have a problem with distractions. I have chickens and that has become an issue with one of my dogs Frejya. She is a tall slim shepherd, husky, black mouth cur. My other dogs are good with the chickens, ducks, geese, and cats, but Freyja is different. Maybe higher prey drive? I just don't know.

@Yana, I find on a prong the feedback is more evenly distributed and less intrusive to the dog. Choke chains, the dog can still choke themselves out. flat collars are just useless on such powerful breeds, the flat collar purpose is just an accessory for the id tag. Hey, we should all have our pups chipped! The difference with 'control collars' vs 'flat collars' in my opinion is that when fitted properly these 'control' collars are fitted higher on the neck close to the skull for maximum feedback and communication with the dog, and have less impactful consequences. Any collar fitted incorrectly will lead to harm to the dogs neck over time. Most flat collars and slip-leads or figure-8 leaders, often end up harming the muzzle and neck due to these powerful dogs pulling. Every dog is different, so every tool will have a different response with each different dog. Hopefully, you find a tool that works best for you and your pup!

I think the problem is mostly people have completely removed the concept of a dog from their life. Dog is now "pet"...little dependent animal. Not something that can and absolutely will kill something for fun times if allowed to make their own decisions. These tiny pet dogs have destroyed the general concept of a working dog that needs structure and discipline. Your little pet is a gardener in a war.. overcompensating with fierce defensiveness but allowed to misbehave because of the lack of ability for damage. Our working dogs should be warriors in gardens. Full of ability for chaos, but with an understanding that it is not allowed right now.

Yep, the force free folks are UNHINGED by nature, with the coming of the Holidays they are likely going to get a bit EXTRA. Only fair that sometimes, when they go low, we punt them in the teeth 🤣 Super Live, Haz 👌

My reactive Shiloh Shepherd is 8yo, 130 pounds, heels well, follows commands well, does not like strangers or other dogs while on leash. Worked with a Pos only trainer for almost 2 years without a lot of improvement. Went back to a prong collar, trained with an ex police canine trainer and learned to use an ecollar. We’ve been using a prong collar consistently for 4 years and I misplaced it. We’ve been for walks with a harness, a flat collar and no pulling and heeling really well. We weren’t challenged with another dog or stranger yet, but he’s doing very well.

I didnt use to car about the R+ people. I shrugged and thought whatever, deal with bad behaved dogs then. Then i found out there is an ever growing sect of them saying that dogs breed for aggression (dogs that dont respond to their methods) just dont need to be bred then i saw the XL Bully ban in the UK. These things arent unrelated in my opinion. Now i see them as coming for my dogs...all i can say is John Wick had it right

I know someone that does agility at a high level and shes not force free and she says the top agility competitors aren’t either. She competes with Goldens and she says outside of the field- none of them are force free. Maybe they say they are in “public” but she says they all use balanced approach. She says they may use “force free” for weave entries but outside of comp everyone is using balanced.

My GS pup is..I’m blanking..what, 23, 24, 25 weeks now, and, if they hadn’t invented the Herm Sprenger prong collar, I’d be slitting my wrists or finding another way out because this pup is a total handful, his behavior is so amazingly better when that thing goes on I can’t imagine what a fully grown adult can do. My puppy started dragging me flat footed as I tried to post him when the trainer was testing him with a flirt pole/leather puppy bite rag, and I’m no wispy guy, I’m nearly 175-180 pounds, this is a puppy, and he was starting to make me slide on astroturf. Pup probably is just starting to break 50 pounds, solid muscle and determination. People trash show line dogs, but, my pup is pretty determined to kill that thing. I’m biased..I had a big argument with some trainer or breeder guy online today, he showed this lethargic GS pup on a little obstacle course and he basically was giving all the negatives of showline dogs, but really, only poorly bred ones. Of course all the (expert) comments were like “working line only, show line are all hip and elbow problems, trash..” So, I countered that the better reputable show line (and they didn’t even know there are different show lines) breeders select only health certified hip and elbow dogs to breed, and that “working line” in a dog’s title is no guarantee of health, temperament, sociability or eventual ability at any dog trainable sport or activity. I said (more or less) that my pup looked like Godzilla compared to his that looked like it had a dose of Thorazine before the vid. Naturally I got the “post videos of bla bla bla to prove it” and I just gave his exact pedigree instead and said to check out Zombi Feetback his maternal grandpa on RU-vid who was a national champ in..2015 in Serbia? Hungary? (He’s like a fireplug of muscle..) I’m blanking again, I do that when I get mad. I also said to check out all the national champs and awards, German descriptions and certified hips and elbows and great pedigrees in my boy’s lines etc etc. Funny part was is that ultimately I was defending (properly bred) showline pups and he was basically trashing his own pup or maybe he was just training it. Happy holidays and my very best wishes to all! Happy dog training!

Yep... I hear all of this! You're not alone. Mine is 11 months old. I was ready to jump off a bridge when she was 14-16 weeks. Thank God for Haz & some great common sense. We're not dog lovers we're dog people. Only a true dog person can do this with a WL GSD 🙏😆🤣😂

These positive only trainers should not simply and humbly put their noses where they don’t belong. Please it is getting extremely painful to listen to their half wise unbalanced training techniques for Real dogs. They should classify them as Golden Pet Trainers and stay with pet dogs they want to treat Tigers like pussy cats 🐱 because they both belong to the same cat family …. Help real dogs by just leaving them with competent trainers who understand and respect their power and natural aggression because they are born with it ….. 🙏
