Only just found this while looking for something else. What a fantastic version of a great song. To play it live with just the 2 of you and a similar mix of electronic and acoustic instruments was quite something. Also loved the split screen in black and white as you were clearly remote from each other, which makes it even more remarkable as a performance.
This is really is excellent. As a 80's synths obsessive - This is absolutely spot on. Lots of nuances in this played it a couple of times still hearing new stuff each time. Great job !!
Lovely! this is by far the BEST cover of this song!, You captured the haunting spooky atmosphere of the original and fit what the lyrics means for self-sabotage, actually I think this song was self-prophetic for Sylvian as he suffers from depression and "When his chance came to be king the ghosts of his life blew wilder than the wind"... He could have been one of the biggest icons of music at the same level of Bowie
Why has this not got millions of views? Scratch that... I remember being a 13-year-old when the original came out, all my school friends were in to Duran Duran and I was the cool kid that knew about Japan, even after they had been on TOTP. I liked the fact they were pretty underground. Yet still, this is amazing.
Wow. Just wow. Stumbled across this as a Japan fan from years back. What a voice, what a production, what a performance, what a video. You've spoiled us with this beautiful release. It's going in my playlist in my car, thank you.
Just stumbled across this tune … has to be the best cover of the Japan track ghosts I’ve ever heard absolutely brilliant thanks for the post 👍🇬🇧🍺🕺🍻❤️🙏🤘😎😁🏴🎧
Best version of this by a country mile. Not an easy song to cover but you both have done an amazing job. Just found this as the man himself, David Sylvian, just had it on his Insta reel.
An excellent interpretation and thanks to you both. The drone-like "lushness" (in both the normal and Bristol sense) that the original lacks gives it a quasi-cinematic quality. Lovely. Would be amazing to hear some more "versions" of other tracks if you do them. You certainly both completely get what the original was doing. Thank you again.
When I was 18, the singer of my band gave me two records, Japan's Tin Drum and Prefab Sprouts 'Two wheels good'.. I'm 53 now and just reaiized a couple of years ago how damn good these albums are!! I'm obviously a slow learner but I have to say that your rendition of this song is pretty awesome! Very well done! Highest regards from an old slow fart from the Netherlands :)
thanks to sonicstate this awesome interpretation came to me ears... amazing!!! love to hear more of sessions like this!!! +1000% deeper and more emotional rich than the original :-)
I saw Japan live when they first started out('im that old) Barbieri used a Prophet 5 for the sounds. This is better because your using the real deal instruments. Please do a cover of Taking Islands in Africa if you get the chance. Peace..
The „Ghost/spirit" of one of my eternal favorite songs has made such a clever transformation into the year 2021! Thank you so much for your lovely realization! Great voice, great performance from both of you - and even with integration of one of the reissued Prophet synths (here P6). The mix with the organic elements is just as tasteful as on Japan's groundbreaking "Tin Drum" record back then. I also welcome Mr. Barbieris attention and comment!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful track with the world! I tried to search for it on Tidal, but to no avail. I am able to find Hazel Mills, composer, but not Hazel Mills nor the duo. Perhaps my searching skills are to blame, but in case you haven't released this track to any streaming services or Bandcamp, I urge you to do so :)
...and, I should add, one of the few covers that I actually prefer to the original. And, since we're talking about Sylvian/Japan, that's really saying something. Lovely and heartbreaking.
