ABOUT HAZEL: Shirley Booth won two Emmy Awards® for her leading role in this beloved series based on the cartoons in the Saturday Evening Post. The show centers around Hazel Burke (Booth), the live-in maid and housekeeper for the Baxter family. George Baxter (Don DeFore), a successful corporate lawyer, is always in control of everything at his office, but almost nothing at home. When he returns from the office at day's end to his wife Dorothy (Whitney Blake) and their son Harold (Bobby Buntrock), he enters the world of Hazel. Running the Baxter household more efficiently than George runs his office, Hazel is always right, knows exactly what needs doing, and pre-empts George's authority with alarming, though justified, regularity!

I love this show! I remember watching it when I was young! There used to be so many wonderful family oriented shows; it’s so sad & awful that we have a drought of family shows, just tragic!! 😭🥺 We need more wholesome family shows that teach positive things like good manners, respect, tolerance & good sportsmanship! Sadly, those days are behind us! No wonder kids are acting out these days, they have nothing positive to learn from!

In the early 1960's, there were only three television networks, ABC, CBS and NBC. Fewer choices on the dial means a whole lot more people watching compared to 500 or more channels today. Fewer people watching, less ad revenue and more "Honey Boo Boo" oriented TV shows.

@@pennolsen5451 No, not quite. Towards the end, when that car drove into view I noticed it was a 1962 model Ford. This " pilot " episode was probably filmed in August 1961.

It is wonderful to see Shirley Booth so physically active here, including hopscotch and bowling, because the show ended up having to be canceled after just five seasons due to her declining health.

I think it was canceled because they got rid of the the baxters and brought in his younger brother. The chemistry wasn't there. It wasn't the same after that.

The days when good, clean and wholesome shows were on nightly network TV. You knew which day of the week and time of day each of the good ones came on. Hazel, Gomer Pyle, The Real McCoys, Gunsmoke, and of course the greatest of all, The Andy Griffith Show. When the whole family would gather in the living room and enjoy.

Again, this is not the pilot of the Hazel show. The pilot of Hazel is actually, episode 23 "Dorothy's Birthday," of the first season. You can see that the set is very different in episode 23 from the other shows. Just look at the dining room, living room, and kitchen. Again, it's a very good show with some nice scenes of Hazel by herself. Take it to the bank.

My husband and I both love Hazel, with the original Baxters. Her health declined maybe from depression of not being able to get the original Baxters to Agee to do the show again. They tryed with the man who played George's brother and his wife, but even with Hazel on it those other two just could not ACT,. Miss the show , I watch this one every day, just out of fondness and lack of anything better on tv !!

CBS canceled the show. Shirley Booth owned the show and took it to NBC. She's actually the one who chose the new storyline and selected the new Mrs. Baxter who was Ms. Arizona.

I love Hazel. This was a great show. They ruined it in season 5 when they got rid of George and Dorothy and had Hazel and Harold go and live with George’s younger brother, wife and child. I really was disappointed in season 5. When Antenna TV gets to season 5, I stop watching until it goes back to season 1.
