When healthy, the greatest pure passer i ever saw. I've been watching NFL football since 1967!

Joe's amazing follow through and quick release made his throwing style the most aesthetic I've ever seen. A pure delight to watch him throw those spirals. He was also one of the greatest college QBs I ever saw.

I can assure you its true. I was standing on the sidelines behind David Knight 11/16/75 in Baltimore. Namath was warming up. He rifled one to Knight, I heard it coming and I ducked. Knight caught it, I looked up and Namath was pointing at me and smiled. He later called me over for a picture with him.

Do you think that Tom Brady could have played like Joe Namath if he was playing back in the '60's and '70's? Especially the lack of rules of "attacking" the quarterback?
@KraytonMC1980
@KraytonMC1980 2 года назад
@@richardacquistapace2317 Without the rules changes Brady would not be playing past 40 and without the “in the grasp” rule we would not have beat the Raiders in 2002. But it’s against the Raiders so Who Cares!

He threw a lot of interceptions for sure but nobody before or since has ever matched the sheer artistry of his style for dropping back and launching those perfect spiral rockets. I always knew about the tales of how there was an audible whooshing "sssshht!" when he released a pass but never actually heard it until here. What an arm! If his knee hadn't been ruined senior year of college, long before they knew how to fix things the way they do now, who knows what he'd have accomplished?

Tore his ACL's his MCL's his meniscus in an era where they just pulled on the ligament to get the slack out and then staple it to the nearest bone. A shame we didn't see him healthy or at least perform with today's sports medicine

The 2 best looking passers in NFL history, Dan Marino and Joe Namath. Would have been cool to see what Joe could have done "post Blount rule", a 16 game season and good health.

Now I play golf...and I played with guys that were good. And sometimes standing on the fairway you'd hear their shot literally buzz going by...like a jet plane. And they say that's what Namath's ball sounded like as it went by. Freaking amazing.

Yes I was near green at Laurel Valley one of days old when" Union Carbide" brought famous tour pros regularly ! But also next to 6th tee par 5 .I hear a ball sizzle as it split the moist air from some pro I couldn't see with bush in between ! Kinda like a firework sizzle!!

A totally healthy Namath without any knee problems would have produced a top-5 quarterback of all-time. Watch some of his earliest footage from Alabama and the AFL and you will see the most effortless, aesthetically pleasing and powerful throwing motion ever. The Namath of the Super Bowl and beyond, which most of his footage is from, shows him already in decline, unfortunately. What could have been had he truly stayed healthy...

When Bear Bryant calls a guy "the best athlete he's ever coached" is saying something considering the long line of athletes Coach Bryant had over the years.

In today's NFL, no QB has a quicker release of throwing the football than Broadway Joe. #2 is Dan Marino who is my second favorite pocket passer. Broadway Joe is the greatest QB of his time. GOD Bless him.

Good ole Namath! Grew up in the 60s 70s watching games plus his commercials TV shows whatnot. I was looking at the photo of him on Broadway for some magazine with Admiral TV appliances all lit up in neon lights behind him and I'm thinking to myself, what the heck happened to our once great America when everyone bought American like appliances and cars whatever you bought American. What the hell happened? All those Admiral Magnavox RCA American companies gone. GM, let's see, we've lost Pontiac Oldsmobile do we still have Buick? When did Americans SELL OUT? 😡

only one joe, never be another that did it like joe,one can only wonder the numbers he would have put up if not for all those injuries from 70-77 he missed 58 starts and played on very bad teams,and he played in a era when qb's did not pad stats with behind the line of scrimage dump offs are hide behind the refs yellow flag,from 60-68 he won a state title a national title plus a super bowl a championship at every level he competed at.when joe was healthy he was the best,

Not to take anything away from Joe But Google a fella named Joe Gilliam who played for the Steelers '74 , Terry Bradshaw said Gilliam was better than Him . . .receivers said they could Hear the ball coming and Gilliam could throw Equally Well with Either arm , when the coaches would slow down game film to analyse his throw with Either Arm It Was Still A Blur . .Absolutely Incredible . . .

shawn harold fox firth . But did he do what Broadway do ? Nope. Joe Namath had better stats and won a Super Bowl and with 2 bad Knees. Mr. Gilliam didnt have much of a career. Didnt know he had a strong Arm like Broadway or threw with both Arms.

His mechanics were flawless but his career numbers were actually pretty bad - 177 TDs and 220 INTs ... ... heard he could throw the ball 90 yards in high school but I wonder if any human being can do that.
