Finally you can fix your bad HC-12 clones that has no range!
Turns out, it was only an error on the PCB that you can fix with some solder.
After fixing several of them we did a range test, and it works!!

A lot of bad copy hc-12 can be found on ebay, aliexpress and other places. They usually have the si4463 transceiver from silicone labs. The module is really good, there is just a PCB design fault.
With this easy fix you can get full range with the clones as well.

I was having the same problems for a year now. You fixed two of my biggest projects in under 5 minutes. Thank you so much! I bought multiple HC-12 in one go and some of them have been faulty while others haven't

I would like to say thank you so much! I ordered my hc-12 and was not sure if was going to work. Well did the test and Ingot 3.1 steady on both for less then 10 pounds is a perfect module. Now I just have to order another esp32 and I will start to finish my flight computer! Thank you!

WOW is all I can say! I spent over a hundred bucks in radios and none of them would work as I had in mind my first one had. I went back to my client where I sold the product to and sure enough that one had an OEM radio and all the others I had been buying are the crap clones! Even one I had purchased from a local tech supply shop here in Toronto Canada! I made a solder jumper as explained and now they have the range I needed! Thanks soooooo much!

Clones are also a MAJOR issue in what appears to be factory-reject crystals being used by the cloners now, that make them off-frequency from what you set them to, and make them have poor modulation also. This prevents them from working in the same network as other genuine HC12 modules. You have to remove the reject crystal, and replace it with a genuine one from a reputable parts supplier. Once you do that, that corrects the frequency and modulation issue also and they work fine.

hi. glad it works! might as well check my HC-12 for the 3v3 reading. btw, those 2 smd components pointed out , are capacitors. cheers 👍

Oops... from just looking at the HC-12 they looked like resistors, but, on the image they are not black or have any values on them...

Hello there. If I use the HC-11 instead of the HC-12, does anything other than the distance change? Also, are the AT commands the same for the two boards? I'm waiting your answer. Also, are you planning to shoot a video soon? Your content is really helpful.

These are NOT resistors (surface mount resistors are black/white). These components are CAPACITORS. I have not tried it because my clones works fine for the range needed and I have not the schematic to understand what to be done.

hello friend. I have a problem with botj the original and the clones. in command mode, no matter what command i send. If it starts with AT it returns OK. example : AT+C100 should return OK+100 but it just returns OK, and doesn't change channel at all... any ideas?

Hi, I have found conflicting info on two things that maybe you can help me with? 1.Does the spring antenna have an omni-directional gain pattern or is it directional towards the axis of the length of the spring? 2. Is there a *noticable* difference between 4463 and 4438 chips?
@DIYTECHBROS
@DIYTECHBROS 3 года назад
It reduces the range if you tilt it toward the other antenna, so it seems like it is omni-directionally!
@AminShahsavar
@AminShahsavar 3 года назад
@@DIYTECHBROS Do you mean that it actually gets worse if both spring antennas are pointing towards each other? This is what I have beein doing all this time, thinking that it increases gain. Your experience is that any direction for Tx and Rx antennas yield the same result? Even when doing your long range test?

What is the range after fixing it
@DIYTECHBROS
@DIYTECHBROS 4 года назад
Seems like it is around the full range of the original ones, about 1.8 KM. For the full range I would say antenna, antenna placement and interference will affect it more than the chip :-)

How is it possible to have one HC12 module as transmitter and send data to multiple HC12 receivers? Thank you.
@DIYTECHBROS
@DIYTECHBROS 2 года назад
Hi! In general, the HC12 just receive data. It does not know if other devices also receive the same signal. If you want to address only one HC12 at a time, you could start with a number and program each one to only read data when it starts with 1 for HC12 #1, or 2 for HC12 #2 etc. Or just a library.

Maybe it wasn't a mistake after all, and a means of limiting the module's power to comply with local regulations in USA. As mentioned in other videos, the maximum power cannot exceed 10mW.
@DIYTECHBROS
@DIYTECHBROS 4 года назад
That could be it! But since it then only have a range of a few meters it would be bad marketing to limit the device but still sell it as 1KM ++ range.
