Just did a semi stand with HC-110 and R09 One Shot, aka “old” Rodinal. You inspired me with the video showing you mixing the two. Negatives are hanging to dry, but to my eyes, look great. Thank you for the inspiration! Your channel is awesome.

So good image rendition! I love the classic look and the grey gradation. XP2 is my new film…like so, the HC 100 stand development. Thank you so much Steve, I’m learning a lot!

I’ve used 510 Pyro for years but not thinking it’s the future. Jay made a great developer but as it is not commercially available with out mixing from scratch most shooters I do believe will search for an easier formula to make and with less of an environmental impact. Obvious examples would be XTOL or Diafine or perhaps Caffenol CL which is quite nice.

@@blackwingvisuals5017 can you post a link to where you purchased- mixing is not hard but requires a bit of care- shelf life is great and stand at 1:500 is quite nice.

So, just do HC-110 Dil G for 45 minutes or more depending on EI … fix with T4. That’s it? I looked up ‘bleach bypass on the net and see that by skipping the bleach the silver remains in the film … therefore, the bleach bypass is informational and not procedural, correct?
@FIGITALREVOLUTION
@FIGITALREVOLUTION 2 года назад
Yes, the silver and dye clouds are both remaining in the film… I also meter more for the highlights and just let the shadows fall - did a video on this some time back. The results are quite beautiful- testing Portra 400 with the same process today.

Wow! Looks fantastic, thank you for sharing. Please excuse my ineptitude, not finding the video on HC110 stand developing on your channel, only DD-X. Also checked the comments and no link. Can you please provide one?

Steve, thank you for the link and explaining. As now understand, not being specific, rather, general, in that the DD-X video work the same for either developer. Based on the linked video, find interesting, if understanding correctly, the HC110 produced better results.

I've been really enjoying these videos on stand development. Instead of going into a long diatribe on what got me to thinking about stand development and how I ended up on your channel I'm going to throw out a few things that maybe you can make videos on in the future as I've found zero information Googling for said info. 1. I see no info on using filters when doing stand dev. In particular on stand dev when varying the EI throughout the roll. At first it may seem counter intuitive because the stand dev is broadening the contrast range so let me say where the question comes from. My favorite portrait film was Agfa APX 100 (90s era film not the film they labeled as APX 100 in the last decade. They were not the same film) and I'd shoot it with a light yellow-green filter to enhance the lips and turn the skin a bit more creamy/milky. To that end I wonder if, because of the expansion in contrast range by stand development, the effects of the yellow-green filter on pink or red lips would be negated or otherwise impacted (positive or negative). 2. There are a lot of people who have done articles on stand development of Ilford Delta 3200 ... but they all shoot it at 3200. I believe the nominal EI for that film is 1000. I'm intrigued by the range of EIs that can possibly be shot on a single roll of Delta 3200 and what the grain might look like throughout the range. So far, on stand development, your videos have been the most helpful because you talk about the range of Exposure Indexes you've been able to get results you find worthwhile, the way to expose (highlights at or below box speed, shadows above box speed, Zone system info), and the tweaks to the developer and development times from your experiences. Your approach seems to be quite methodical so I figured if anyone might have experimented with lens filtration and experienced the effects, good or bad, related to stand development it would be you. Also, if anyone might have already figured out the best usable EI range of Ilford Delta 3200 that might also be you. I want to try to figure out what film(s) with stand development will offer me the most flexibility and achieve the results I'm looking for. I know the only way I can do that is to experiment myself, and I will. I just don't want to waste effort on something you may already have the answer for. I suspect I'll end up with a film I'll prefer for portraiture and one I prefer for general purpose or landscape and one I prefer for moderate grain, etc. just like I did pre digital. Time to get those 6x7 and 35mm cameras out and put them through their paces. Hope these questions inspired some video ideas. Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out- with regards to filtration the same wave lengths of light are affected in standard and stand development so the only difference may be lower contrast but not a different filtered effect… a slight S curve in PS will solve the contrast issue. With regards to delta 3200 I shot a lot of this film- a lot! Diafine was amazing- 100-1600 usable and kinda big grain but with that film I love grain…. Really a great combo! If you want speed with the 3200 try the DDX stand - HC110 Dilution G will I suspect at 45min give you a very solid 1600+ with a very low contrast- this is a low contrast film and that’s a good thing for pushing. Happy shooting! Steve

@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Thanks Steve! I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some insight. I have a bunch of film in the freezer so I'll have to look through what I've got and order some chemistry to try some things out. I’ve read in different forums that film like Ilford XP2 done for C41 process it is not so good on the archival side if it’s precessed by BW chemicals. Do you think so? How your stop and fix bath is? If that has something to do. That you so much
@FIGITALREVOLUTION
@FIGITALREVOLUTION 2 года назад
C41 material as perhaps not as archival but A lot depends on the fix and wash and storage- I use water for stop and TF 4 fixer. After I make my scan I seldom visit a negative again….

Do you agitate rotate 4x5 sheet film for the first 5 minutes then let's stand alone for the remaining time may I ask?
@FIGITALREVOLUTION
@FIGITALREVOLUTION 2 года назад
For sheet film I seldom do stand dev.. rather just do the 5 min prewet in the JOBO and process using stand techniques- will run a test in the near future to see if much is gained in LF
@1911geek
@1911geek 2 года назад
@@FIGITALREVOLUTION sure pre-wet I got timing of 17 minutes for D-76 1:1 dilution but the quality and effect not like yours so I saw your video quite interesting. Dens negative with wide ranges I am curious but 55 ounces of juice too test one sheet of XP2 4x5 is a lot of waste I will figure it out somehow. I don't quite get your comment "then standard" what's your dilution and timing for HC110 if not "stand processing"

Sorry- standard technique - again I seldom do stand with LF- but again I will run a test with LF soon
