Interesting video. Makes me think of discussions I have on my own stoop with friends in the evenings. I agree on, if I understood correctly, how Good News has been limited to our own personal situations - ie. personal salvation and that maybe it's become centred upon us versus centred on God. If I think of what Good News means, I would throw out the idea of re-establishing our relationship with God - bringing us into right relationship with Him that will have all kinds of other impacts. Thanks. Yes, that sounds about right. 👍😀 I'm always trying to think what would be good news for a first century jew, because the disciples and Paul chose to name the story of Jesus "good news". Its obviously much more than "better fuel price" or short term "easy-life" things. Anyway... 👍
good news is family is healthy and happy and we have work to provide. but ultimately jesus is good news for us all. if he is happy with us that is good news. as a nation hear in usa we are not making him happy for sure. end times our among us for sure. what is your thought on that. i hear south africa is struggling as well? it is hard times for many. but there has been hard times before. with my country it is quite nasty now and it is going to take jesus to get us through this!!!! glad to see you thabo

Had to think about this for a while. Good news to me is justice to come to this world and righteousness to overtake everything. In a sense, if there has been a road that turned left or right, that the road is made straight. This would be the ultimate good news, but again, good news for who? I think it will be good news for the meek, for the peacemakers, for the ones who mourn. Basically for the people who are described in the sermon on the mount.
Well I was glad to hear Trump was out lol. But really good news would be for world leaders would share all raw materials and help each other out rather than fight for everything. We may very well be going to war soon over Ukraine. You wonder why. I imagine it’s to do with raw goods gas export and trade channels. All driven by money and economics. I thought the aim or “good news” of the Old Testament was that all of the 10 lost tribes would be gathered from all over the earth and reunited with the 2 existing tribes for the full number of the 12 tribes once again to make them whole once again and that a King (Messiah, a human not God, like David) would bring universal peace to Jerusalem and the world…and the Temple would be rebuilt and the Levites would teach the Jewish people the laws of God and the people would embrace them wholeheartedly this time. Whereas with Christians the good news is that death has been conquered…
Thanks. Maybe that is what Jews today would see as Good News. Would love to hear from them. It makes sense. But studying Paul and Josephus and the prophecies, seems more like what Jesus came for. Paul, a Jew scribe didn't introduce a new religion. He showed how Jesus was exactly what was expected and prophesied. At least, my understanding. 🤔😊
@@umfundiseThabo it’s a rather deep rabbit hole that requires lots of study. I’ve been having this similar conversation with a friend and the issue is what does the Bible say vs how is the Bible interpreted? There are many theologies that interpret these things differently in the last 2000+ years. It’s is quite the ball of twine to unravel. I do know the Jews see Christianity as a perversion because Christ is elevated as God Himself, he was offered as a human sacrifice (which is forbidden, and the idea of eating his flesh and drinking his blood gives us some kind of (as they might see it) magical powers…except for this I think they would be more excepting of him as a Messiah and like Elijah a possible return from death; as we see in the Book of Acts they accepted, but now we read through the eyes of theology and are hard pressed to understand what is written or (depending upon which theology) we’re correct…a lifetime endeavor to comprehend I’m afraid (for me).

You're right about the human sacrifice thing, but did the new testament writers saw Jesus as a human sacrifice or is that what we or the 18th century enlightenment made of it. Wonder? 🤔

There are certainly many texts that seem to say that he was most certainly a (human) sacrifice, but those texts seem to me to say more when they are taken out of context and strung together as I have done above, but when read in context with the knowledge of the Old Testament they could be interpreted differently. For example in Hebrews 10 above it says he offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, that could be understood as his mere death upon the cross as many say, but if you read just before in Hebrews 10: 8 it says, When he said above, “Thou hast neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), 9 then he added, “Lo, I have come to do thy will.” By this statement verse 12 is defined that the sacrifice he offered wasn’t his mere death upon the cross, because we know that God forbid human sacrifice and that he took no pleasure in sacrifices and burnt offerings, but it is his obedience to God’s will even unto death to not sin (sin is breaking law), which to me is a totally different thing. Christ sacrifice was his obedience to the Father even unto death. And this way of thinking makes sense of the Apostle Paul’s advice in Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world[a] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” We like Christ are to be living sacrifices not dead ones…but if we are faced with the threat of death we should know that God is on our side and that He is more powerful than death and so we should maintain our faith and not fear, as we have learned from Christ.
@@tobaccospipesandmore7762 Does the author of the letter to the Hebrews imply Jesus's death was human sacrifice? I don't think so. But it's a fair question. What we do know is that Jesus died as a criminal, though not guilty--which was foreseen in the scriptures. He became a ransom for us, the true criminals who've rebelled against G-D. The penalty for our rebellion is death. The death of Jesus, His resurrection, and ascension into Heaven, paid our price--ransomed us--that we might become Children of G-D. I wonder now, if Jesus was a human sacrifice, then it was us that sacrificed Him, not He Himself. I like how Pastor Thabo framed it when he said, 'not as a final answer but as a thinking process of "what is good news and for whom.' "
