Don't get me wrong, Amos Diggory's anguished cries are gut wrenching and the whole scene is very well done. But I don't think enough credit is done to that one shot of Hagrid applauding, only to stop and stand up as he realizes that something is horribly wrong. It really hits hard

Hearing Cedric's father yell "that's my boy..." weeping over his son's death is actually the saddest thing in these movies to me, I'm serious. The movie as a whole is not the best but Cedric's father weeping about losing his son, makes me cry every time. It should have been a bit longer, let it sink in. Let the pain of Cedric's death sink in and it could have been amazing.

Why do people think this is over-acted? I mean would you have preferred Amos and Harry to just be all chill about it or sit there in silent shock for a few minutes? Whatever criticisms we have over this movie, no one can argue with Jeff Rawle's performance as Amos Diggory. It's such a minor character, but this scene hits *so hard.* Even all these years later, it's still such a raw reaction to the indescribable pain of losing a child. They are your whole world, and no one embodied that more than Uber Proud Dad Amos Diggory. This remains one of the only scenes they got absolutely perfect.

Out of all the books/movies in the franchise, this one made me sympathize with Harry the most. He was forced into a deadly tournament, his friends/peers turned their backs on him, his crush rejected him, he got tortured by Voldemort and the death eaters, and he had to watch his only friend that year die. I saw this as a big emotional breakdown, he had to endure so much pressure that year.

From friendly and helping each other out with tasks, to a strong dislike for cedric stealing his crush even though harry knew it wasn't cedrics fault. To a positive rivalry and then comradery in fighting together in the maze. They were competitive friends going through some tough as trials together, and at the end of it all they were telling each other to go ahead and win cause the other deserved it, but they agreed to just win together instead. It was a deep bond indeed and Cedric would've kicked some ass in the fight against evil had he not been taken by surpise... RIP. But poor Amos this scene always moves me.

0:05 When Harry breaks down finally. He saw Cedric die a while ago, but is only JUST now falling apart. He didn't have time to mourn Cedric, immediately after he was murdered he then had to fight for his life against the darkest wizard in history. He didn't fall apart because he's had to fight for his life so many times by now. He was focused on the fight and could only afford to cry AFTER he made it to safety. Just the rush of trauma when the adrenaline wears off. Watching Cedric die, being bled for the sacrifice, being tortured and almost killed by Voldemort, speaking to his parents (that he never met) for the first time in his life, and then running for his life. The sheer horror he suffered in mere minutes finally catching up to him once the adrenaline wears off.

I screamed like I never had and started running and trying to find a way to get to him. I was screaming and pulling the doors open like a maniac. The desperation was something out of this world. And that is also the moment I knew that I would absolutely die for him without any hesitation. Luckily and by a miracle the little guy suddenly crawled away from under all of those heavy doors and didnt have a scratch on him. And the cold sinking feeling in my guts stayed for a long time and I just couldnt bare the thought of not having him anymore. Overacting in this scene? Definately NOT.

He had a total range of action/emotion happen to him, so he had to put together a really devastated Harry Potter here. He watched his friend get murdered, watched Voldemort return to power, as well as had to fight him & nearly died himself. I'd say Dan nailed it. It was emotionally heartwrenching.

If you look carefully in this scene, you realize that Snape gave his cloak for Cedric's body to be wrapped in. First of all, Snape obviously rushes up there as you can clearly see. But during the shot of Cedric's father running up to the body, you can almost see something dark covering the body that wasn’t there moments before. Then at 1:03, you can see the father making a movement with his hands as if uncovering Cedric's face and you can catch a glimpse of something black up to his chin. If that doesn't convince you, take a look at the scene DIRECTLY after this one where “Moody” is revealed to be Barty Crouch Jr -- Snape isn't wearing his cloak. And that happens literally right after this, so it's not like Snape would have had time for a wardrobe change.
@Inferno90
@Inferno90 4 года назад
Every time I watch this scene, I always love seeing seeing the subtle moments of Snape as he enters the scene, with his hand on Albus' back, and his general concern, etc. Not that I am insensitive the scene itself, because watching everyone slowly realise what is happening, is heartbreaking. But Snape in this scene interests me the most. And kuddos for pointing out the cloak thing, because I didn't even notice, despite having watched this multiple times. Just adds to my already growing reasons why I respect the character throughout this series. It's nice to see this side to Snape, even if these moments are rare.

@melatonin0_0

Michelle Linardis Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Alan though, because it’s amazing how much he understood his character and knew his thought process and what he would do. And I know most people always say the books are so much better, which I do agree with, but it’s little details like these that can really only be portrayed by film that really help me have an appreciation for the movies alongside the books. Because really, Snape is the same Snape in both the books and the movies, but you just are able to see more things in the movies (like facial expressions and actions that Harry wouldn’t necessarily notice or care about) that portray so much more of Snape’s as well as everyone else’s character :) Haha sorry didn’t mean to go on a rant there
@Inferno90
@Inferno90 4 года назад
@@melatonin0_0 It is a nice thought, if it was Alan who thought of it. And you are absolutely right, and I agree with you. He understood his character, especially as JK has given him those crucial pieces of information he needed to fully portray this iconic character. Severus with books vs films do have a slightly different version that is portrayed, but it is the same man essentially. Sure he was more bitter and snarky in the books, but having scene Alan's portrayal in the films, gives the character a new 'softer' perspective (and because Alan is damn brilliant at those subtle expressions). I know there is a 'great Snape debate' out there. Every person has both a light and dark side. Sure, he wasn't the most pleasant man. He treated people poorly, even Harry. But he wasn't careless, and he did have good intentions, even though he made so many bad decisions in his life that created this ripple effect. What he did for all those years, were brave AF. It's heartbreaking that no one really knew his loyalties until it was too late 💔

It was perfectly adapted from the book because the significant role Cedric played in the book. Harry has a team player personality despite his common traits amongst Tom Riddle. If he wasn't, he wouldn't of saved Cedric's life in the maze and both grab the trophy together. Harry was just sad because he lost a good friend that supported his trials during the tournament. The grief really set in during that summer in the Order of the Pheonix. He felt responsible to the degree that it was his fault he died. He knew he couldn't change but his remorse during that time immense. On top of that none believed him from the Ministry that Voldemort was back.

He could change it using Hermione Time travel pendant, even in Cursed Child they use that

Jared Broughton well similar events to this video happened to my transformers OC when he was in an last before competition he finally could become an soldier (more specifically, a wrecker) but that loss of an opponent (that he grew to like as a friend and rival) got killed and that would be the first death he would go through. Now he is commander of the wreckers and Rodimus prime’s second in command (these events takes place in the future where Rodimus is *really* old and becomes an advisor for the young prime after Rodimus)

And because he saved Wormtail's life a year prior and realized that Voldemort's rejuvenation and Cedric's passing most likely would not have unfolded had Remus and Sirius killed Peter then and there.

Snape's face when the Minister mentioned that "a boy's been killed." The different emotions that is displayed on the cast faces are really good, they sold this scene.

Everyone's not crying. I see Harry, Cho and Amos Diggery crying. Everyone is rather shocked and emotional because it's a death of a student who went to the same school as them all. I clearly recall Harry, Hermione, and Luna in particular being shown crying over Dumbledore's death and I believe others did too. It's been a long time since I watched the movie, so I'd have to see it.

In terms of depicting shocking grief, this scene is one of the most accurate that I've seen, not just in Harry Potter, but in movies in general. Of course, I can't speak for anybody else, but I find this painfully relatable to my own experience of this kind of loss. Upon seeing my loved one's body, my legs collapsed from under me and I basically ended up just like Amos in this scene. I know grief is very individual, so others might have different reactions, experiences and views, but at least for me this hit really close to home in all the right ways. Jeff Rawle's acting is incredible, and I also have to say that Mike Newell's direction is brilliant. It's simply a great scene.

Another wonderful depiction of loss of a loved one is Annie in Hereditary, it made my mother cry from how real it was

It’s not accurate for a Brit though. This is a very American show of emotion. Coming from someone who watched a love one die unexpectedly with multiple other people in the room

What about lord of the rings I think it's the last one I can't remember the names but they are siblings and the war is over but the brother sees his sister lifeless body and just let's out a heart wrenching scream as he runs to her than collapses and holds her in his arms as he sobs that and this scene is a tie I'd say I always get chills

i really love the way this scene is made. mostly in scenes like this the color pallet becomes cold and muted, but the entire scene is warm and bright. it’s a really nice way to convey that this is supposed to be a happy scene, that it was going to be a celebration, but the banners and music and warm lighting can’t just disappear as soon as the sad scene starts, and it’s one of the many things that make this scene one of my favorites from all the movies. also, the delivery of all of the lines, especially “i couldn’t leave him! not there!”… god. such a well made scene and movie overall

I dunno why but it feels like a balance between light and darkness shot for both the setting and the mood that it becomes once everyone realizes what happened.

I saw a comment on a tik tok pointing out that draco was sort of the first person that realized Cedric was dead bc he didn’t clap and then quickly stood up. It’s at the very beginning, he’s sitting behind Arthur weasley 0:02
