I was devastated when they killed Fred. I have two little brothers who are twins. I cried everytime I looked at them for a week after I read this scene. I couldn't imagine not seeing both of them.
In an alternate universe, the weasley family could have lost Ginny in The Chamber of Secrets and her battle with Bellatrix. Arthur in Order of the Phoenix. Fred in The Deathly Hallows. Molly would've lost 5 family members in both Wizarding Wars.
@@ziggyprice4780 I think you mean if he had listened to Hermione and given up Snape's Half Blood Prince potion book he'd have never known how to save him
Also from a writing stand point it hits hard. It’s emotional because we see that love between them. It’s good for writing because it adds more depth and we understand what the first war was like for people losing someone they care about. I loved the twins and the are legends for pranking umbrage
Its shitty writing and she did it throughout the series..... its a cheap, easy way to exploit the readers emotions, there are so many other ways to get the same result but they take more skill, so instead, she kept doing the same thing over and over cause it was easy- kill a beloved character, make the reader feel, do it again.
Fred's death showed that the war is not gracius If you want to ask your enemy "please dont kill him we love him, he has family he has so much to live for!" do you think it would care them? I'll Tell you: NO IT WONT And this is cruel
You can't have a war with no one being killed. Reading that all of Dumbledore's army were using nonlethal magic during this war is a bit unrealistic. You cannot win anything by playing defense the entire time.
I lost my youngest sister to cancer in January '21, & while I feel the loss, I choose not to B sad 'cause she's gone now, I choose to B happy 'cause she lived once. I'd like to think George feels a bit the same.
I feel like she struggled to choose which of the Weasleys to have die. It wasn't going to be Ginny,Mr.Weasley or Molly, Bill had already gotten injured by greyback and Charlie wouldn't have any impact since he wasn't a prominent member. So my opinion that would leave the Twins and Percy, everyone always says Percy should have died but because he was the least-liked Weasley it wouldn't have had an impact on us. Personally I think Fred dying with the best choice because it put into perspective the scope of the war and that it gave George the quieter of the twins the dynamic of losing the one person who got him his best friend and partner that was the thing that change George, that's his scar. It was probably one of the more difficult choices she had to make given how popular they were
It should have been Ginny. It would be a devastating loss for the Weasleys but the twins would have been there to make evryone smile. Its easy to cook a story on how Harry met a spouse. A muggle spouse for Harry would even be more exciting.
I was so sad that they killed him still think killing him was unnecessary but if she had killed anyone else besides luna in this way it wouldn't have been epic enough to pull at the heart strings.
I would have rather it been Percy. I thought both twins were too important to the story. It still could have been heart-wrenching. After apologizing and telling his family how wrong he was, he could have jumped in front of a spell to save one of his family members. Most of us like a good story of redemption.
But that's life. Amazing deserving people die all the time. The "wrong" people survive all the time. It would be unrealistic especially in a crazy battle like that with someone who is smart but a little reckless it makes sense unfortunately. Usually the cowardly people survive and the hero's die
Oh wow. How did jk not think to somehow add the mirror showing his own reflection at the end of the story is a crime against muggles. That’s heartbreakingly beautiful.
It also must have been very hard on the actors to play that scene they both played Fred and George amazingly and to find out they were not actual gingers in real life even more Amazing 🤗💞
Don't trust me for 100%, but I believe the actor who played Fred actually fell asleep for that shot. The actor who played George had to cry for real because he couldn't live without his brother!
I believe it was until he fell asleep and started snoring which made everyone crack up and brighten the mood which was needed after that scene. Not sure if that's just a fan rumor or if it actually happened butbI love to imagine it did, plenty of actors who play a character who dies fall asleep during the takes.
@Rik Bakker Lol, Oliver Phelps said he was trying to get in the spirit of the scene, but he wasn't sad enough, so the makeup department blew eucalyptus powder in his face to make him tear up. And, yeah, James Phelps confirmed he fell asleep and that everyone left him on set to go to lunch. 😆
I think the author nailed it. She shocked everyone, in the same manner Death will swoop in and take someone in reality. There one minute, gone the next. It feels like a "cheat" doesn't it? Death comes and doesn't even allow you a chance to defend. Unfortunately, Death doesn't follow any rules and the author knew that. She knew that a does of reality in a world of fantasy would hit YOU as hard as the characters IN the fantasy. I was sad as well, but that is also how I knew it was done so well. \m/
For me, it was unnecessarily, and may have just been done for shock value only (that anyone can die). I believe that Percy should've been it, dying just after he came back, or hell, some other student.
I think if Percy died instead it still would’ve left a profound impact as he last minute came to his senses that his family was right all along and that he wasted so much of his time away from the people who love him most only to come back to them at last but then be ripped away from them again permanently this time. He was their prodigal son so I think if he died it still would have had a great effect as he chose to sacrifice his family for his own self and now that he’s returned ands wants his family back he can never have them, and now that they finally got their son back he’s taken from them again and they don’t even have enough time to fully make up for lost time before he dies
I was getting mad until you said you realized why it WAS so impactful. To me, the deaths that have the most impact, are: 1. The standard “blaze of glory” And 2. “This is war. People die left and right. It isn’t always epic, there isn’t even always time to mourn.” But the epic “Hero’s death” is done all the time in fiction; it’s still always epic, but we’ve all seen it before. But deaths in movies and games of main characters that are just killed by a basic troop in a battle and there isn’t even time to mourn because the fight is still going, those are unique and sad and they force you to cope with it fast because the fight is still on.
My brother died a few years ago so I can definetly understand the pain I think it's ok for jk to implement this I don't think Fred's death was a mistake or should never have happened its like jk said she wrote his death before she made the character like fate weaving us all through life.
JK Rowling herself even said that she regretted the decision to the kill Fred and I think she should have had killed Percy instead because he was there and the last thing Percy ever heard from Fred was him laughing. Percy Weasley said he could still hear his laugh, haunting him for the rest of his life.
In my opinion, if any of the Weasley should've died, it should've been Percy. Fred was more a brother, and a loyal friend to Harry than Percy ever was. He simply betrayed and turned his back on his friends and family, and the Order of the Phoenix when Voldemort returned. And he believed Harry Potter and Dumbledore were outright liars about Voldemort's return.
@Raptormon, but why should those reasons matter in war? War isn't fair, war doesn't spare you because you are good and loyal. This is a lesson we all should have learned from Cedrics death in goblet of Fire. I think it is a far worse punishment for percy to see his little brother die. He truly loves his family even if they drive him nuts and don't share all of his values. Personally I really like the theory that Percy is under the imperius curse from wormtail.
All the twins I know are very close and I couldn’t imagine seeing one without the other. My nephews are identical twins and I got two pairs of identical twin cousins. They have a best friend since birth. I also mistakenly call them the wrong name all the time.
Though George's marriage did last, J.K. Rowling herself said it was a marriage made and lived in grief, not necessarily the healthiest but probably the best George could hope for after losing a major part of himself. And it should be noted that another Weasley was also on the chopping block but she later changed her mind. Originally she planned to kill off Ron, one of the trio and that is why for a long time his character remained undeveloped beyond an insecure and juvenile mentality pronged to jealousy and anger, especially towards Hermione.
Have you heard of the theory where Willy Wonka (as played by Gene Wilder) is actually George Weasley? If it’s true, and if the theory about the Gene Wilder Wonka being the paternal uncle of the Johnny Depp Wonka is true, then maybe Dr Wilbur Wonka from the Johnny Depp version is Fred Weasley (if he survived).
Man all the Weasleys were affected by the war and Voldemort in some way. Molly lost her brother Gideon and Fabian and of course one of her babies ( Fred), Arthur was attacked by Nagini, Ginny was possessed and kidnapped by Tom Riddle, Ron’s best friend was Harry and was directly in the line of fire as a result, Bill and George were both disfigured. Charlie and Percy were the only ones who escaped unscathed.
JK ROWLINGS kept it REAL. This is how real life is, actually life is more HORRIBLE. It can be . thank you J.K.ROWLINGS. you did a great job on this video.
I pretend Percy was the one that got killed since he didn't want to be part of the family anymore and left. I know he did realize his mistake, came back, and apologize for his wrong and everybody still loves him but personally I can't separate The Twin at all. Forever together 💐💐
I feel none of the Weasley's should've died. Rather if a hero had to die should've been Ernie Macmillan or Dean Thomas. If Fred should've suffered anything, then maybe lost an eye or some fingers.
I have never been more devastated by a death in literature outside of Tom Robinson from To Kill A Mockingbird. I got to Fred's death and slammed the book shut, shoved it in my backpack, and refused to continue reading for WEEKS. My friends had finished the book and wanted to talk to me about the ending, but I was so sad and so upset that I had to go through a period of literal mourning before I could continue. I hate it to this day. I don't care how well it was written or how well it showed the horrors of war.
I think she wanted to have a touch of realism of having a beloved character die in a non heroic way. War is brutal and it doesn’t care who dies or how they die. I actually thought Percy should have died. Bear with me. Considering how he betrayed his family and treated them disrespectfully throughout the series, I imagined him dying a hero’s death when protecting his family, at long last and because Fred was next to him, he will blame himself struggling with an internal battle wishing it was him, but eventually “moving on”and realizing what he was blessed with.
As if the thought of inseparable twins being cruelly ripped apart from each other in a split second, without the opportunity to learn and accept their fate together. We then are made to realise that the one who lives on with the pain, can't even look in the mirror without being reminded of his other half being taken from him
Appearance wise (going by the actors), Fred has softer features, while George’s more sharp and angular and he has a mole on his neck and slightly taller. As far as characteristics, Fred is said to be more funnier, the instigator and the leader of the two. While George smooths things over and is more sympathetic than Fred, but he’s also a better beater. Hope this helps 😊
My friends little brothers are twins. They're not identical, but they have one of those bonds that you expect to see on TV. They're not my brothers by blood, but I've known them for a long time so they're everything but in my eyes. So thinking about them when I read the book or see the movie makes it so much harder
I came to very much the same conclusion eventually. And I also have realized something from life that impacts how I see it. When you give everyone a glorious death you risk glorifying war in the process. Wars are often mostly pointless and mundane carnage.
One of the main characters had to die. Do think it should be Ron or Harmonie? It was improtant for us. The message is war is not a good thing. There is no herones in fighting in wars. Americans maybe don't want to hear that because of american war propaganda. As a child I didn't get this but as an adult you should know that.
you should def change the video title. i just finished the books after 10 years of waiting after watching the movies and i didnt remember fred dying, and i started watching a few of your and other peoples videos mid book
There was a perfect way to still kill of a Wesley but make just as heartbreaking if not more so, and that's have the scene exactly the same but when the smoke clears and everyone is seeing if anyone was hurt instead of Fred not getting up have it be Percy. I mean after all he'd just reconciled with his family things were looking up I think they had even been laughing together making plans for the future then he dies. It would devastate them all. I mean yeah its still heartbreaking to a sadistic nature almost but I feel this way is slightly better as your not tearing the twins apart you can't have one without the other, its not right.
Without that death could Molly have ever defeated Bellatrix? That death, if you will pardon me, brought out her mother grizzly nothing else could have. She REALLY meant it when she hurled her magic at Bellatrix with her love for her son adding piquancy to her magic. What else could have fueled Molly's anger and indeed rage? {o.o}
I hated that Fred was killed :( both seeing and reading Molly's reaction...God it was heartbreaking. Just as much as Amos Diggory's reaction to Cedric. I still can't watch or read those parts. Hits way too hard for me, I've lost both a sister and a child. Just a massive gut punch.
At 4:37....that's not Fred that's George. Fred is my favorite character! I always thought it is interesting that while the character Fred is the older twin, it's Oliver who is the older of the actors.
I agree Fred being killed by a pile bricks was underwhelming however compared to Jamie and Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones being killed by a pile of bricks/ stones after all the build up Fred going out the same way was more satisfying than the above mentioned.
I too hated Fred's death, and was shocked. But anyone who fought, knew from day one he/she might die fighting. That is the hardship of war. Fred was one of the characters that I loved, that broke my heart, and if anyone, I think George should have been the one to die, if she decided to kill one twin. At least with my favorite, I knew in my heart his death will come, but for Fred I wasn't ready.
It wasn't a mistake. It added to the weight of the plot. Fred, nor George, nor many of the characters at that point served much of a purpose to the story. So... JKR started offing them because that's what happens in War, people die. Some characters though, in retrospect, were completely safe. Ginny, for example, had to live so she could give Harry the family he'd always longed for.
They could have had a spinoff movie series starring those 2, they still can save it bring Fred spirit back and join his brother again like the other ghost
I actually believe the Weasleys got away pretty good. Think about it they have such a big family and only Fred died while they actually didnt have any chance at winning the fight at Hoghwarts especially until Voldermort went to the forbidden forest. Its mostly sad to George because they were always together as twin and he never got over his death. If none weasley (important for fans) died we wouldnt get as hurt as we did but shoud have because in war (especially irl) you can lose everyone around you.
I was crying so much when they killed Fred it was heartbroken both him and hsi brother are my favorite twins that is so much funny and make me laugh and laugh all the time.
Inlove how people are trying to tell the goddam authors of a franchise that what was a mistake If Rowling decides to kill someone than that is not a mistake
