Don't stop at just the voice. The songwriting. The poetry, the theme. The musicality. The way the rhythm section lifts you up with three chords to prepare you for the prechorus, then brings you right back down, gently, with the same three chords in reverse order to marinate in it. The lyrics.."A woman who wet my thoughts like kisses"...."She breathes in fog, and breathes it out as garden flowers"..."The soil is fertile where her footsteps trod"..... It's the whole package. Most of you are just satisfied with vocal tone/acrobatics and a borrowed beat. Not I.
Une des plus belles performances live que j'ai entendu ! L'émotion du gospel avec la puissance du rock. Je l'écoutais avec ma mère et ma soeur il y a des années, et je trouve cette performance toujours aussi forte !
This one and Jeff Buckley's Lover, You Should Have Come Over, from the same period, are two of the greatest love songs of the 90s. But there's more. On the album that this song is on, there is also Undeniably, It's Been Said and If You Go Before Me. Songwriting of sheer mastery and genius.
@@locadisahe was stuck behind the fame and popularity of Michael Jackson & Prince at the time, so we never got see the "Super Star" he should've been. Still a 🐐 in my eyes, but those 2 definitely blocked his "fame" and "superstar" status
Its up there if you like this check out: Prince - Purple Rain (superbowl) Sam cooke - Bring it on home (live in harlem) Donny Hathaway - Love you more than you'll ever know (live) All just as magical to me hope you get sone enjoyment out of any of it if you do take the chance happy listening
It’s 2022 and he is one of the most underrated singers/ performers we’ve had and he definitely didn’t get a lot of praise from the R&B world. This man evokes so much emotion in this song
@@AM-ec9op yes,he never sold out, I respect him so much for that it takes a real person to say no to the devil and all the glamour he has to offer. Blessings to him.
Rex Spencer this fucking good song the guy has a strong voice is there something inside this song very deeper the guy has a voice very different look like a old man singing ,
me too... I do believe this song has retrieved my long lost 'bliss' from the stormy abyss of depression (and not a minute too soon!) Gorever grateful to you, SANANDA. Transcendence delivered! XOXO
I absolutely love this song! It honest to goodness plays all day and night when the kiddies are away! It stays on repeat! Alexa has to stop after a few hours of play, but if she never did, I’ll keep it playing all fricking week! One of the Best love song ever!💜
Emotion Control: OFF Voice full Control: ON So, sing you Soul out Terence... I guess this Kind of Masterpiece could be 1 Hour long and we would be asking for more... Musical Genius!
I was lucky enough to be at this gig. It was the Shephard's Bush Empire on a hot summer evening. I'd seen TTD many times before and have always been a huge fan. However, on this night, the stars aligned and he was at his absolute best. Electrifying. It's so incredible to be able to watch it all of these years later. Thank you.
Possibly the most naturally gifted vocalist of all time. If he had conformed as he did in the early days, he would have been incomprehensibly commercially successful. But that was never his goal, and massive respect for that. He did it the way he wanted to. Legend.
This performance is simply unbelievable. He puts his heart and soul in here. He sings at such a high level and live!!! I love it so much, I habe no words …❤
I keep coming back to this video. I've probably watched it 100 times. He puts his soul into this song and picks mine up while doing it. That's the only way to describe what this does to me.
He is definitely a great artist!! We kinda know him as Terrance Trent D'arby. Not to be confused with Andre Cymone , Shalamar, etc They are also great! I think what's got it is definitely their sex appeal. Truly an original.
I want to thank my mom for listening to him while we were children... ✨❤ My mom knew her music. Always loved him. The good ol days. Rest on mom! We Love You!!!🙌🏾😘😘❤
This song makes my heart ache for how much I love my wife. It is an important song for both of us; it reminds me of a very special time. I used to stand in the kitchen on Sunday and whilst I prepared the roast dinner, I would sing along and my wife would listen in the other room with tears in her eyes. Thank you TTD.
I watched him on June the 26th this year. His voice still posses magic. One could hear that the age left it's trace, but it's still there. 2024, anyone?
If it weren’t for my mother, I wouldn’t know REAL heartfelt music. I’m 25 and listen to this old school music more than anything. This is pure talent 💕
Memorizing! He doesn't ever wear ear buds, to stay on tune. GOD touched him with a gift, that makes ppl fall in love, with being in love, by feeling what the songwriter is singing. His songs come from his soul, as you can tell, when tears streamed down cheeks. No matter how many times the songs have been sung, his heart is always in it, as if he's telling his lover these words for the first & last time.
I just love this...makes me want to know his story. I lost someone recently and just watched this one night and was hooked watched it every night for months. His tears get me his voice his body movements his whole performance and the love you feel how his band knows him the connection at the end..xx0xx
Faith will lead you on when that dark cloud comes....wow love this..... Can't believe I'm only hearing this song now. Love the band and only his soul full voice. Amazing!
He was never underrated. Everyone that heard him back in the day knew he was the shit; the real deal. But, unfortunately, for whatever reason he faded away.
@@rodentcafeteria he changed his name to Sananda Maitreya and is still creating music. This is his RU-vid channel ru-vid.com and his website sanandamaitreya.com
It's amazing that it's been twenty years! I think I was the only black female who took Terrance serious in the hood of Detroit. A lot of people thought he was a one hit wonder but I have always loved him. He got me through some hard times in my younger years. You are a classic....a timeless voice that I will always cherish
Girl you was not alone nor the only one back in those days and in that Detroit, Michigan Town. I didn't throw myself into him but I really did love him n his songs too in that era and for now. Such a new blend into what was coming out at that time and yet such a different type of strength to what he brought out. I love his own way of being new in what was the "current or now" way coming out
Me too! Was a hardcore fan at 13 years old growing up in detroit when his first album came out. I didn’t find any folks that were into his music until I left the D and went to college. I saw him perform during this concert tour in Atlanta in ‘95. Best live concert experience ever! 😍
I've listened to Terence aka Meitraya for over 30 years! His music has saved my LIFE! And continues to everyday as I orbit with the beautiful YOUZZZ around this galaxy, in the great Super Structures of our universe!
I'm a grown man, wife and kids,, and this brings tears to my eyes,,, This song defines the law of gravity with no definition to describe the emotions and sorrow with love and pain but happiness that are embedded in this masterpiece....... thank you
@@pouetpouetdaddy5 ok then am a young child that is handicap and I'm an orphan living in an orphanage that has a disease that will only allow me to live in my early 20's.... this song brings me joy....
He did two nights, I was there both nights and remember saying to the person next to me, I'll never see a better show. Since then I saw Prince twice and pretty much every other big artist. Never seen a better show yet. God bless you SM you're awesome.
@@skorpiogrl He sat at the piano and sang, for about 30 minutes, that was awesome. The band came on and he got up and performed with power and passion. I was lucky enough to go to the aftershow party on the second (last) night. The band were all there, TTD wasn't. But it was an amazing exerience!
Oh my goodness I've just discovered this performance. Had only come here to listen to sign your name. WOW WOW WOW this man is full blown crying at 7.25, you can see his tears and hear his voice lose power. Incredible the emotions poured out and felt by all! Want to listen to more of his stuff after this!
I'm such a fan and embarrassed I never saw this performance before. I blasted this on my road glide today had 4 or 6 cars ask me who I was listening to. What a soulful performance!
Completely mesmerized by him and his aura and the band matches his perfection in every way. He is so in the zone in this performance that it jumps off the screen. I don't think I was breathing. Absolutely incredible and my favorite performance of this song.
For years this has been my go to in emotional performance perfection. It’s poetry. It’s raw. It’s visually spectacular. The way the band follows his every move in knowing when to bring it down then kick it all the way up. Just literally the absolute very best. Thank you so much for sharing this with us Sananda!!!
I’ve loved this artist from the first time I heard him in the 80’s. He took soul to another level by creating his own music and recreating covers in his own way. There are many great artists, and music is my life but in my opinion he is The King of Soul and one of the best voices ever in the industry. God Bless you and Thank You for sharing your art work with the world.
I cannot find another song that can touch the emotions that this song does. It reminds me of my childhood, my teenage years, and the long days I go through now (I'm 31). Sananda you are amazing! 😍
Thank you for you lovely reaction. The song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Another song that does that to me is Terence Trent D'arby singing"holding on to you" live in London.
