Normally they do not, but they know it was me and it is part of my permit that I am allowed to "perform" for the crowd. People love it, it brings them to the Pier, and it's "different". Dave
The one in the video is a Revolution 1.5 SLE. Bought one several months ago and the fun factor, once you get the gist of it, is absolutely off the scale.
Awesome kite. The pilot is doing an excellent job of flying this thing. After I learn on a basic stunt kite I would definitely like to get one of these.
Hey Gang, Just to answer some of the questions that have been asked. First, that is actually a VERY OLD model, a 1.5M, the M stood for Mylar. If you look closely, it has a Mylar panel. Since the video was shot, we had SO MANY requests for that color, we had Revolution make it as an exclusive color for The Kite Connection. The bridle is the same bridle material that has always been used, just a different color, they varied the colors based on availability. It is a Spectra Cored Dacron. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. What's funny is that if you also look closely, the sail is separated from the leading edge in about 5 places, but it stills flies great. I finally retired it about 6 months ago and it's now in my garage. I'm honored that this footage has more views than any Rev footage on youtube! Thank you all very much. If you are ever in Huntington Beach, please stop by, I'll be happy to give you a free lesson! Best, Dave The Kite Connection
Dave Shenkman I'm trying to find some one who makes Catherine Wheel's Cutting Edge made my last one And I can't find Jim or Monica Barber of Ocean Shores, Wa.
ottyflyer1 My SLE is also but I'll be sewing it this evening. It's an easy zig zag stitch. Use masking tape to hold the edges together and then sew over the tape and just tear the tape away, vent panel is attached to the leading edge almost like it came form the manufactures dock! My old sewing machine can handle this job easily!
I've been flying 2 line stunt kites for many years and this Christmas I got my first quad line kite! Can't wait to get to a beach soon. I also got a 2 line 10 foot airfoil parachute kite with a bar...lifted me off the ground!
Nice flying...I fly my Rev's pretty well, but not quite ready to "attack" the crowd just yet even tho I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...Good job!
The original Rev I and Rev II (three sticks) had a full-length mesh vent just behind the leading edge spar. But the modern Revs use a nylon fiber-reinforced clear panel material that's not a vent. It looks like a vent, but it's not.
For the sport stunt kites how do you stop the kite or lower it down cuz after lift off its always rly high up. If I losen the string it just falls down cuz no drag on the kite
when you want to own a Ferrari, price tags are not the focus. Its the style, the performance, the "wow" factor. get one. you wont regret it. Revolution kites are more than worth the price.
My name is Dave Shenkman, I own The Kite Connection on the Huntington Beach Pier. I'm shocked at how many views this has had. I had more fun playing with everyone that day than they did, the wind was PERFECT. BTW, I fly Revs professionally and have so for 20 years, please don't fly that close to people. Thank you. Dave
Maybe my next kite will be a revolution? I've started quite a collection of kites from delta two line stunt kites up to power sport models. My favorite is my thunder foil 2.5 but those revolutions look fun!!!!
Great video. Now I know why those kites cost so much. It would have been cool seeing you walk it along the railing! Just imagine if someone would incorporate fiber optic lighting in the kite material so you can display messages. Now that would be killer!
If you want to break into it on a budget, try second hand on eBay and the like. They normally go for $150 or £100, and they don't lose their value further.
the stops are too risky for my flavor, but ooh so tempting because of the reactions. Makes me want to try. Like $300 makes me want to try.I think I have made errors in my kite purchases by being cost conservative. Haven't we all?
I mean, how fantastic is that? its like its alive, or something, a mind of its own, I have never seen this type of thing before, I want one,,, how much are they to buy? and, where can I buy one from? ,,, love to know... cheers
Now THAT is a true statement, which is why I always do a little test run first and communicate fully with my audience. Those that show any fear, concern, etc, will never be bothered...
Frank Holmes Yes. Plans can be found. search "revolution type kite plans" but be able to sew and have a heat knife to cut the nylon unless you are real god with scissors! . Easier to buy first before building one of these as the rods are costly and you have to order them on line unless you have a fiberglass company that makes them close by! Wood doweling can't handle the stresses put on these kites in a good wind.
Frank Holmes Go to Ebay or Amazon and look for stunt kites and get a cheap Rev type before building or buying the better ones as all that time or money and one bad crash makes cheap the tool for learning! LOL! Quad foils can help a little but they don't play as well as strutted kites do. I AM looking on how to turn a smaller or less than 2 m foil into a quad as medical problems and a skinny arse and an over 2m anything and I become the weight holding the air in the kite that's dragging a human all over the field! I can't do a board due to brain surgery YET! Working on that as I am not ready to quit! LOL! But have fun! Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys
rodney hendrickson I just typed in " Revolution stunt kite" myself and it took me to a website which sold them and advertised this very video. They were around $400.
Well, sort of "just like it", come on now Joe!! LOL! That particular model is about $300.00 complete, including lessons if you come to the store in Huntington Beach!
+Richard Darlington I like how you put drones and pilots in quotes. I've done the exact same thing before. "Drones" doesn't only mean a quadcopter. And real pilots fly real aircraft. I'm a quadcopter based aerial photography platform operator! Get it right people. ;-p. haha.
+bradley duckett Yeah. Isn't punctuation wonderful? I've been building and flying R/C planes since the late '70's. Love it to death! I do have one quad copter, a Blade Nano. I don't fly it much, though. It's just not the same as flying fixed-wing aircraft. Quads do make for a great camera platform, though. I've seen some wonderful footage here on You Tube. Have you posted anything? Thanks for the reply. Peace always...
+Richard Darlington I have not posted anything yet. Right now I'm in between quadcopters. My Blade 350 qx3 lost a (brand new) prop at about 100' up over pavement. Too many parts were damaged to justify it. I was flying in one of the crazy modes, but it was well within the capabilities of the machine. Broke my heart. The default modes are a bit boring for people who've cut their teeth on planes. In the next couple of weeks I'm going to upgrade to the chroma 4k. Going all out (well kind of lol) The GPS quads are a blast. So are the little micros. I don't have any great footage uploaded since I didn't have a gimbal. I do have a video that was decent. I need to upload it to YT. I do have a "hangar" full of brand new planes that I inherited including a beeeaaautiful Curtis Jenny. Have a great one man. Glad to see there are some other responsible "pilots" out there. ;-p
Skilled flying: yes. But it is all fun and games until it is not! That was dangerously reckless and could potentially have resulted in serious injury or worst !
Thanks for you comment. A highly skilled professional pilot of 40 years. So not the case. Do you say the same about air shows with Jets flying over 100s of thousand of people?
@@daves3919 I suppose a highly skilled professional motorcyclist doing wheelies on a highway that was pulled over by police can express the same sentiment ? Crowds purposely attending an airshow are assuming some level of risk at these heavily insured events. I would be shocked to learn if Revolution Kites condones or encourages the use of their products in this fashion. Do they ??
@DOLEWDREW considering they have used that footage in almost every promotion, I am one of their largest dealers in the world, and I did their Advanced flying video for them, not to mention that particular video has sold more kites for them than any other video in their 35 year history, I'd say yeah, they do.
aunt betty, you have your work cut out for you, much harder to learn on than a 1.5. Also, no original Rev is available new for 120.00, only an illegal chinese knock off or a used. id be VERY careful. As an authorized Rev dealer of 25 years, I have seen a lot of people get ripped off. unfortunatlely a lot of bad information. Please folks, do your homework b4 making a purchase. if not with me, with someone who knows, preferably a local kite store. Regards, Dave Shenkman.
I can fly one that well (with the smaller version) and that guy is taking too much risk. A spar can let go and you suddenly have a person punctured by flying polymer rod. You should never get close to people in case a line breaks or a part of the kite fails.
I have never had anything let go or break while entertaining people. I inspect my equipment religiously, and always fly in winds well below max for the line strength and spars used. I've flown professionally for decades, and have never had an incident.
Hi there, I work for a news agency called Newsflare. We are interested in talking to you more about your video. Sent you a youtube message, if you could take a look as soon as you can and get back to me. Thanks, Amy
Very irresponsible kite flying. You should only approach someone like this with their permission. Personally, I would laugh if someone took out a knife & slashed at that Rev to give it asymmetrical vents! LoL
Thanks for you comment, as ignorant as it is. Perhaps you should research the facts. At no time was anyone in danger. I guess you missed the part where EVERYONE was laughing and having a great time.
Ever heard of kite safety? Your not setting a good example. I don't think flying into unsuspecting peoples faces is cool, more stupid than anything. There's always a chance of accident no matter how good a flyer pilot you think you are.
Thank you for your comment. I have been flying professionally for 30 years, nobody was ever in danger, I was in constant contact with everyone, I have full insurance, etc. Yes, there is always a chance of an accident, just like when you ride a bike near the public, play football on the beach, etc. Again, thank you for your comments, it's always good to emphasize safety.
I use to fly the rev's. They have great control and can stop on a dime even in high wind. I went back to two lines because I could do more tricks with them but there is less control compared to the rev's four lines. I can assure the flyer is not a newbie and no one was in danger with them flying. The rev's are basically a precession kite.
