This is Part 2 of my Anchorage, Alaska Planespotting Adventure.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
North! To Alaska! I bring you a taste of the aviation magic of America's Last Frontier. I finally made the trip up to America's 49th state not to hunt for bear or moose (although I did see a moose while spotting here!) but instead to film the many various, diverse aircraft that are plentiful in this part of the world.
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport PANC/ANC is a major airport and mega cargo hub where Boeing 747s and heavy jets are as common as the pine trees and the air is sweet with the fresh of outdoors seasoned with the smell of jet exhaust and hot brakes, ... truly a unique airport with a diverse air traffic assortment unlike anywhere else on earth. Everything is here, from the still operational DC-9 and DC-3 to the Dreamlifter to the KC-135 and versatile C-130.
I've dreamed for a long time about making a planespotting video from Anchorage International Airport as it is one of those airports that was featured in RU-vid videos I used to watch that inspired me to try my hand at other locations around the world besides Chicago O'Hare. Many thanks to the efforts of folks like my good friend Rocknroller92 ( / rocknroller92 ) for providing that inspiration and input to ultimately make this video happen.
As usual, I shot all of this without a tripod, two hands only... practice, practice, practice. Even so the stiff, chilly Alaska wind contributes a bit of shakiness to the footage at various points.
Most of the action is arriving and departing PANC/ANC's 10,900+ ft runway 15 and is taken from Point Woronzof, a spot famous with the locals and many seasoned planespotters. All footage taken September 10-12, 2017.
Either unfortunately or fortunately, I picked the days to film that construction crews were busy re-paving taxiway Yankee (Y) so this adds a lot of background noise to the film.

After seeing these videos, it's plain to see that you chose one of the best locations in the world to shoot. A freighters paradise, amazing landscape and aviation wonders like DC-3 and DC-6 still flying. Thumbs up!

me too! I find flying in Alaska to be a refreshing scene compared to the same old boring airplanes we often see at airports across the U.S. that all look the same.

When the first thing you see is an old Herk smoking in, followed soon after by an even older DC-3, you know it's going to be fun! I like the climb rate of that DC-6. "If we're above the trees by the time we get there, it's all good."

Construction activity seems to be a constant occurrence in the vicinity of so many airports. It shows the importance a city, etc. places on that particular airport, and aviation as a whole.

At 22:44, the Dash 8-100: N886AE, can be seen landing. This airplane had an inflight upset/stall event in September, 2012. It lost 5,000 feet in 37 seconds and sustained minor damage in the recovery. Looks like they repaired it and have it flying.

Wow Jay! You always get the greatest spots to video aircraft, and I did thoroughly enjoy your post. Do you have some secret decoder ring or secret handshake to access where you video? Regardless, you really captured the beauty of huge aircraft landing and taking to the air. The one thing that really floored me was that there are freight companies which still use the DC-3 and DC-6. Those aircraft are most likely older than any of us. Thank-you again for the video. Please keep up the great work.
@OHAREAVIATION
@OHAREAVIATION 7 лет назад
lol! Thanks so much for watching! and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner as I have been super busy. It was indeed a special occasion for me to be able to film these beautiful airplanes in their natural environment hauling actual cargo ... not in some airshow set. This location is quite famous with spotters in Alaska and I happened to pick some great days to go up there due to the winds allowing for landings and takeoffs on runway 15... normally this is not the case and the takeoff on 33 and land on the 25s or 7s.

@OHAREAVIATION
@OHAREAVIATION 7 лет назад
I personally like the HX300 and plan to keep it for a while. It gets the job done.... I like cameras enough to use them to capture video or pictures of airplanes but I'm not a camera geek really. I have heard the Sony HX400v is similar and I think my friend Matt Cochran of ATL uses one.
