At the end of last month, I paid a visit to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in order to get one last flight in on Canadian North's Boeing 737-200 before it was retired.
While I was there, I spent a couple hours at Yellowknife Airport - the busiest in Northern Canada - and filmed some of the regular action. The diversity of aircraft is unmatched anywhere else in the country, from a 70+ year old Curtiss C-46 Commando to several rare Dash 7s! Enjoy!
A big thank you to Air Tindi for those close up shots later in the video :)

Agree! It's like being sent back several decades. Imagine the passenger experience :) If you want to go back in time then get a ride on that :)

You should see some of Buffalo's other fleet. Their newest is a Boeing 737-300... Besides that they have a couple of Electras, a fleet of DC-3s and they even used to fly a DC-6 as a passenger service to hay River.

I always say is, but Canada has the most interesting airline industry in the world. We fly everyone from large to small, brand new to WWII era, jet and prop, long paved runways to short dirt strips. Its truly impressive

I used to visit Barranquilla airport (BAQ) back in the mid 70s as a teen and the C-46 was operated by the airline Aerosucre. The airline still operates today, sans the Commando. Used to hang out with the mechanics and saw them test run its engines. Love the sound of those propellers. Seeing it taxing and take off sure touched memories. They wore different colors, one was painted purple and was nicknamed the “Obispo”, the Bishop in Spanish. Again, thanks for sharing. Semper Fi! And Post Tenebras Lux

Your video should have a "contains hardcore avgeek material, viewer discredition is advised" warning 🙂 Is Max Ward's Tiger Moth still on display on airport grounds ( on road to airport) ? For a good primer on how the north was opened to aviation: The Max Ward Story. By Max Ward. McClelland & Stewart Inc. describes his story of opening up flights in the North on a tiger moth based in Yellowknife through the creation of Wardair which grew freom charter carrier to scheduled carrier before its demise because it tried to grow too fast at time interest rates rose. (includes all the political aspects of Canadian government protecting Air Canada's monopoly).

I don’t understand why this dc-46 is still in operation in 2023. This was a plane conceived during the WWII. It’s a nonsense to me. It most cost a fortune to operate and to find parts
@mikejackman4416
@mikejackman4416 Год назад
Many airports are gravel jet aircraft have a hard time with that….have you seen the size of a C46 cargo door and the amount of weight it can handle Buffalo operates 2 C46s and a few DC3S check out a show called ice pilots NWT and you will understand
