Yes that big chip does get very very hot indeed and sometimes is at fault but not always. We usually ask that you send the mainboard along with the box because even though the TV does display picture with the box disconnected, the mainboard doesn't actually turn on or activate fully until after the box is detected, which means the mainboard could also cause the symptom you are experiencing. Hello Alex, If it's an issue with the HDMI port being damaged we can replace it. If it's an issue with the processor IC chip which controls the port that has gone bad, we can also fix that. Is this the only HDMI port that doesn't work? If that's the case, I do believe we can fix it but you would need to send in the box for us to repair it. If we ever encounter faults with software, we program new chips and replace them on the boards. As for where we get the software, we copy it from a known good board that has been reset to factory default.

Hey Bob, What you are describing is very common and is a fault we should have no problem resolving for you. Then you will have to replace it but the cable for the F9000 HU9000 and the JS9000/JS9500 are built really well and never fail unless an extreme amount of physical stress is inflicted on them. Now the newer cables however have both wires and optical cables in them which means if they get kinked the cable will stop working. Those are much more fragile and often get damaged. Again you have to replace them but they can be hard to find and sometimes cost almost $200 to replace with the only option to purchase being from Chinese retailers.

Hello, This video is meant to show you behind the scenes how we fix some of these One Connect boxes. They aren't intended to be a guide for DIYers to fix their own boxes. These boxes are very hard to work with, unless you repair electronics for a living I DO NOT recommend you try and fix it yourself. While the issue you are describing could be a One Connect box fault, the symptom you are describing could also be caused by a defective mainboard. As for the chip right above the One connect cable connector, while it can and does go bad, it is 100% normal for it to get very hot so I would advise finding a short or something else to confirm it is indeed defective. It is NOT normal for the HDMI processor chips to get hot like that. That is why it was immediately suspicious for those and why I mentioned it in the video and replaced them after also confirming a short. The processor also as you noticed does not have legs to connect to the circuit board like the HDMI processor we replaced. Instead, it sits on a ball grid array. This means to remove it and replace it you will need some much more advanced equipment and experience. I really don't think it's a good idea for you to try and replace it yourself. I know that it seems our repair service is expensive, but it's expensive because of how difficult the repair is. In fact, our price is incredibly low considering the amount of work, technical skill, and equipment required to fix this type of issue. I know I am biased but I highly recommend you leave this repair to a company like us that has fixed hundreds of these. Anyone who has tried fixing these themselves before sending them in that isn't a professional repair company has damaged the board further and most often made the board completely fail in a way that is no longer worth repairing. A lot of yapping to say pay someone to do it. Most people look up these repairs to diy, because they cant afford to pay someone to do it for them/replace it. I miss when youtube was mainly diy and not ads for service.

I understand you are not mad at me but at yourself for having to depend on me to do these very high-level repairs. I miss when people were grateful to get extremely high-value information for free.

So Juan and I use different types of flux that's maybe what you are noticing. He uses no clean flux, so it's a special kind of flux that you can leave the residue on the board and won't corrode over time or become conductive. He needs to use that because you can't easily clean underneath those chips he installs. I have more freedom to use whatever since I can more easily clean it off after since my solder joints aren't below the chip but on the sides. Of course, the same goes for SMD and through hole components.

If it's brand new from the Factory I would highly recomend you do not open it and do not try to fix it. You should send it back asap for a replacement of full refund! If you try to fix it, you will void all warranty.

Hi Nick. Thanks for replying. I got these boxes in 2017. So they cannot be swopped or returned. I am hoping to have them fixed. I'm thinking that there could be a component that is not assembled correctly.

I am sure they can be fixed, but right now we don't offer services for one connect boxes that were manufactured after 2015. We only do 2013-2015 models. We may start servicing newer ones in the future but at this moment we don't offer those services.
