As a trucker I can tell you these new truck are so easy to drive. They practically drive themselves. As long as your careful and not let other drivers bother you your going to a ok. I have been trucking for 20 years and I have driven all kinds of semis this one will feel like your riding on a cloud

If you could pull your trailer with that rig one time, you would never drive a dually again. I saw a video with an HDT owner that said his trailer brakes had failed on a trip and he didn't notice immediately because the truck was doing such a good job stopping the rig. The stopping ability is the best reason to go with the HDT.

Probably my favorite video so far!! Great chemistry between you four. I had a Ford F-650 with 22.5 tires and able to look at truckers eye to eye. It’s awesome driving that high up.

Wow. What an incredible find this video is to me. I have been looking at used OTR/HDT trucks for 2 years and just bought another RAM 3500 cab chassis as I did not connect with the right truck yet. Look at the Schwalbe conversions on Peterbilt and Kenworth chassis BTW if you're still looking. This guest on your video is such a pleasure to listen to. Pick you up a Volvo HDT and buy any size of New Horizons you want. You’ll never have any problems towing the thing around the country.

Great Video. This was the first time catching your channel and I enjoyed the fun you have while you are creating your content. I was one of the people Jim talked to when he was looking to buy his HDT. I built my HDT as well as helped build others to build their HDTs to different levels of completion. Although an HDT isn't for everyone, you cannot know the difference in comfort and most of all safety of being in control of your trailer. With that said. My wife and I have our own RV park that we allow folks to stay at (at no charge). So we extend an invitation to you and your wife to feel free to contact us. Part of the invite could/would include showing you a lot more of the HDT intricacies and take you both out for a ride and drive our HDT so you have first hand experience inside one of these fantastic Rigs. We are in the center part of the country near a very popular entertainment area. West to East North to South and back you will find us pretty close to your route if not right on it. Again we really enjoyed your video and would love to host a stay for you both sometime soon. God Bless

you may need some extra length on the hdt bed to carry a jeep as it can't be loaded sideways. go for a 2 door jeep as they are cooler anyways :) (also saves money vs 4dr which is another savings courtesy of jim lololol)

Omg I laughed and laughed. Awesome video. Oh don't be afraid of the big truck. :) I was a solo truck driver at 22 hauling loads from Canada to Florida. It's interesting to look into the details, my thought was cost of ownership. Oh boy that spreadsheet is coming lol thanks for sharing another option for people to consider.

Sandra Westley uk, I follow Suit Travel I love there rig but wow what a big one that is, not something that’s easy to park. You’d be busting a gut driving that thing Todd. I agree about big draws, people that plan kitchens anywhere, house or trailer I only have big draws in my home kitchen, don’t do cupboards, draws pull out and are easy to get into.

Listen. Been driving a tractor trailer for going on 40 years. When I finally retire hopefully in the next 6 years. I will be buying a class A truck. Probably a single axle not twin. Take it to a TA, Petro,Loves etc… to get it serviced. Usually less than $350. That’s for fuel filters, oil and filter plus grease. Go get a shower and something to eat while they do it. Much easy that a pickup. Plus the drives with get over 200,000 miles and steer over 100,000 miles. Motor over 500,000 miles before you ever think about an overhaul. Try that with a dually. Just need to watch the length when your turning or backing up. Go to an old mall or a truckstop during the day to practice both doing forward and backwards.

Our 5R is 40' ~20k, its an old one, we bought it first...There are so many beautiful trucks out there, pick ups, flat beds, we started looking at 1 tons with flatbeds, the price just blew us away. A new truck was just out of question, and older ones, diesels, were looking 20k +...maybe. Watched Suite Travels, Tipsy Marlin, Jonesn2travel, and a lot of others, both pick ups and hdts. We bought a 2006 Mack. Best choice for us, we got 15-19% grades out here. Wasn't worried about towing the trailer....was worried about stopping it. Then again, I am from a long line of trucker/military family...yes..SIZE does count. Western Star is Cadillac of trucks, so our grandson says...so pretty.

We have been following all of you for a long time . Our dream is a a late model Volvo 780 and a JX450 DRV. We need the room for our 2 Ridgebacks. You guys did a great job with the video. One of the best so far. Looking forward to joining the full time racks in a few years. Keep up the great videos for us working stiffs. I have been a truck mechanic for 40 + years plus a CDL holder with driving experience. This is the best of both worlds One thing you didn't touch on is the safety factor with an HDT. Braking and handling is much better. I see people talking about costs. In the long run with an HDT the cost are similar. The new pickups are not cheap to repair and pulling a 20,000 lb 5th wheel wears them out quicker than a HDT would. We pull 140,000 lbs in AK and can go 6 to 700,000 miles with out major problems on a semi truck. Brakes tires and everything will last longer plus you're not working the truck as hard.

I agree, I have driven Class A trucks for some time, and I never knew how much anxiety my wife had pulling our 45 foot until I started pulling with a HDT. I made a trip with my F350 dually, I was on edge to whole time. Love my HDT.

cb radios really change your travel experience get on channel 19 for updates on road conditions the truck drivers relay to each other on road hazards so not to get stuck in traffic channel 9 is your emergency channel be aware if you have small kids in your rig 19 can b a rated r channel lololol i tell everyone that travels its a must have for safety buy one you will enjoy it and also watch what you say on them you dont know who is listening i never give out my exact location or real name great vid keep it up

Everything Jim talk’s about is true. But for me after driving for over 41 years; I have no desire to drive a Class-A truck. I look at as a novelty. I will stick with my 2022 Ford F-450.

I agree. We have a 2019 F450 and LOVE it. Towing a Momentum 328M and it just blasts up those long steep Colorado Rockies. I'm in Mount Airy N.C. this evening and the speed bumps in Tennessee, N.C., Virginia etc... don't even cause it to breathe hard. Roll on !

@@gainingmomentum5392 We just got our Riverstone 42fskg Monday; we have a built week for the truck October 18th we had the 5th towed to a RV park in August from Greer SC. we will get it prepared to live in it full time. And hopefully the truck will be delivered a we will be at the huddle in November.

I would have to agree with everything Jim has said. We got our HDT already set up for 5th wheel towing and the Smart car and was under $33,000 and the truck was already titled as a motorhome and our home state kept it tagged as a RV. Love the HDT and try to attend one of their rallies it will help your decision.

A bit of bad news Shelia, only the smart car wheelbase will fit on the trucks flatbed in that orientation. Any of the Jeeps will be too long. Now if you watch SuiteTravels videos on the HDT Rally’s .. I think last fall one, Jim highlighted a few other “bed” options where other vehicles fit.

Traveling in our Freightliner we try to go 6 hours between stops. The air seats are amazing. I start with all the air out and add air as the miles click by. Nice to get best interstate fuel economy running at 1475 rpm which is around 74

One of these days My wife and I will look you up.I’ll be driving a Peterbilt 379 model. I’ll never have an automatic.or assist 🤦. I just feel casterated .Nothing less than a 10 speed . When I ran the west coast I had an 18 speed😀🥮

We purchased our 2013 Volvo 780. $24000 with 500k on the motor. For the 5th wheel hitch $5000. Will handle a 35,000 pound trailer. Going top of the line fifth wheel. Have a 2015 Smart car. $9,200. Decking for the car $3500. So total for the truck $32,000. There is no way I can purchase a truck in the size bracket to pull our toy hauler for that price. Empty weight on our toy hauler is 20,000lbs. Plus all of our extras.

Been following Jim and Kellie for a year now. We purchased our HDT, 2013 Volvo 780 locally here in Oregon paid $24,000 with 500k miles. In the process of finishing up our Stick's and bricks for sale. Then hitting the road. Plus bring our screen printing, vinyl sign, custom merchandising business with us. As I told the wife. When we run out of money 🤑. It's time to print shirts, cut some vehicle vinyl and signs, plus do custom merchandise for our customers. We are "xtreambydesign with passion". I am also a certified Federal Motor Carrier Instructor. And have been a professional truck driver with over 40 years experience driving trucks. Personally this is the only way I would go if you are pulling one of these large toy haulers. Just think your trailer weighs an average of 20,000lbs. You need something big to pull it and STOP IT.
