The falsetto near the end is sung by David Lindley, who plays the "lap steel" which has that country sound. The female vocalist is Rosemary Butler. Both of them hit it out of the park.
I sat in the 4th row at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha during Jackson Browne's Running On Empty tour. He ended the show with this song. We were on our feet!
... as far as I know, Jackson Browne is the only Musician humble enough to write & perform a song thanking "The Roadies" for all of the work they do in setting things up and tearing things down for the Band. Take care Harri... Cheers...
Apparently during the covid lockdown they obviously couldn't play live, so jackson paid all of the musicians and roadies full wage out of his own pocket!. In my opinion the greatest singer/ songwriter of all. I've been a huge fan since I was 12 years old. Please come to England again ASAP!!
100% agreed. THE greatest singer songqriter ever. Nobody can hold a candle to Late For The Sky, The Pretender, For Everyman, Running On Empty, Hold Out.
Jackson Browne accidentally contributed to the Eagles early success. He wrote the song "Take it Easy" but didn't quite finish it. Glen Frey heard him working on the song and kept pressuring him to finish it but Jackson didn't - he had too many other songs he was working on. Glen asked him if he was going to finish it for his next album and Jackson told him it wouldn't be ready. He told Glen to take the song and finish it for the Eagles album. That is what Glen did and it became one of the Eagles first hits.
Jackson Brown is one of those artists, like Ms. Aretha, whom you just don't turn the channel on, or turn the radio off when they're on. You just don't.
Jackson Brown songs I love: Rock Me on the Water The Pretender Tender is the Night Your Bright Baby Blues Linda Paloma Love needs a Heart Well to be honest, there is not one that dont love.
This whole album is one of the most beautiful and under rated albums. The whole thing is a document. And perfect all the way through.!! Recorded all while on tour in some way.some in hotel room some in green room some in concert . One even on t😮he " silver eagle." Bus. Hear it in background
You know an artist is well known when the crowd cheers after only a few notes played. I've seen Jackson a few times in concert. He's still one of my favorite artists as is Bob Seger. Their music has gotten me through a lot of life. ♪♫
This was recorded live at the beautiful outdoor venue of Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland during the summer of 1977 or 1978. I was working a summer job at the box office both those years and had the privilege of seeing this performance live from 7th row center seats. Incredible!
Young man. I am a 64 year old musician. I watch a lot of reaction videos and you're the first I've seen applaud and give a standing ovation. This was my first time watching one of your videos but you have a new fan and a new subscriber. Peace!
Actually, The Load Out is about what are called the “Roadies”, or Road Crew that sets up all of the equipment, instruments, assorted lighting, etc before the show and then tears it all down and packs everything up after the show. The Roadies travel with the band throughout the tour on buses and by air. They are the unsung hero’s of every band’s tour and Jackson dedicated this song to all of them.
The entire album was about life on the road. Running On Empty is one of the best albums of the 1970s. Rosie, the title track,, The Load Out/Stay, You Love the Thunder.... - front to back it's lovely.
My introduction to Jackson Browne was in 1974 and I was snowed in (blizzard) at a drilling rig in Quebec and I had 2 cassette tapes left by a co-worker - Jackson Browne & For Everyman. I have been a dedicated fan ever since and I can never get enough of his music.
Was in that biz for 10 years. Got to do a couple shows with him after Running on Empty came out. Those of us that did all the behind the scenes work for these shows really loved this song. Spot on.
This is such a great tribute by Jackson Browne to the guys that work so hard for so little because they just love being a part of it. I truly love this performance. Such a fantastic "every man's" songwriter.
@@b1bmsgt Most of the roadies making minimum wage are LOCAL and hired by the venue. It helps if you know what you're talking about. The traveling roadies make good money.
For context, the song 'Stay' was written and recorded by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs in 1960. Jackson Browne changes a few lyrics to fit his purpose and makes for a great melodic segue one song into another. Here's link to the original Zodiacs recording ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P2BJUGJR5fw.html Thanks for posting Harri, all the best!
Thanks for taking me back to 1978. When I’m listening to the music of the day, I don’t feel one day older than I did then. (This avatar pic is me in 1976. I know, I’m showing my age! I actually saw the Bee Gees Live in 1979 in Providence, R. I.)
This has always been my favorite song by him...Paying tribute to the people that set up everything before and after his shows...And the band too...And the audience.
He wrote the greatest line in music. Please don't remind me of my mistakes I am very well of them. His lifelong friend Greg Allman made it his song These Days.
From the album "Running on Empty". It is unique in the sense that none of the songs were studio recorded. They were either in concert, on the tour bus or in the hotel room recordings. Really deep catalog of music to listen to and worth the visit.
This is from the album "Running on Empty" which is made up of cuts recorded on tour. Not just concert recordings but songs recorded on the bus, in hotel rooms etc. Groundbreaking stuff and very successful commercially. One of the biggest selling artists of the 70s and 80s, part of that California sound along with Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, CSN, etc...
Jackson Browne is such an exquisite talent. Beautiful voice, great pianist and amazing songwriter. And he wrote a lot of fantastic material when he was still in his teens and early twenties. Just wonderful stuff. Great choice!🌺✌️
Jackson Browne is rock royalty. Yes, his biggest hits are great and numerous. But for a blow you away treat try some of his slightly lesser known nuggets. For example In The Shape Of A Heart and Sky Blue And Black are incredible compostions with performances only Browne can give justice to.
When you check out "Running On Empty" do the live version from around the same time as this one. It's the quintessential version, full of energy and the band having a great time.
He is a beautiful singer/songwriter/performer. I was so blessed to see him with Joe Walsh in Santa Fe NM at a No Nks concert when I was 16 yrs old back in 1981. I had been a fan since I was a young girl because my sister had all of his albums and took me with her to that concert. His voice is so haunting, and I believe it's because it's a real picture of his heart. Thanks for this great reaction video!
It’s definitely two songs. In fact a while a go you reviewed another version of “Stay” by a different artist. And I, and many others, left comments about this version by Jackson Browne, suggesting that you check it out. And now that you have, you can see what all the fuss was about.
Jackson Browne to me has the quintessential voice of a story teller. Cat Stevens is another. But Jackson Browne has so many great songs like the Pretender, Your Bright Baby Blues, on and on.
JB is a genius! "Late for the Sky" is the greatest album ever. Still making superb music after all these years. New album "Downhill From Everywhere" is excellent!
I rank Late For The Sky as one of the two most influential albums of the 20th century, the other being Paul Simon's Graceland. Jackson is the American musical poet in the same way that Leonard Cohen is the Canadian musical poet.
Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "Rock Me on the Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running on Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.
Jackson is one of my favorite musicians love him. Saw him with Bonnie Raitt at the tower theater outside Philly. Acoustic guitars it was Awsome love Bonnie too. Might see if he’s playing in Atlantic City this summer. My family has a seashore house and we love going to go to concerts. Now my sons are 32 and 41 they love my music. Love going with them. Great memories!
David Lindley, The really high falsetto. Who played for Jackson Browne for years also Linda Ronstadt and many others, and formed his own band his own band David Lindley and El Rayo X.
Much to like here, but one of my favorite things is his shout out to the roadies seems sincere. The live performance of "Running on Empty" is enjoyable to watch because they're all having so much fun.
I read his biography and found out his father was in the bands of the 40s. This will show that Jackson Browne inherited his talent from his dad. Isn't that wonderful?
Jackson Browne was one my favorite bands growing up. And this song was what motivated me to want to learn to play the piano. Glad someone got around to doing this, I have suggested this song several times to other channels. Fun Fact: In 1989 Stevie Ray Vaughan made an appearance onstage with Jackson Browne to perform a few moments with this song "Stay" Thanks Harri great reaction 🤗🎹💖🔥🤘🎶
Jackson wrote “These Days” when he was 16 or 17. Such amazing insight, empathy and soul at such a young age! He’s been doing the same for over 50 years and we’re fortunate enough to be able to listen to it all! ❤
@@fcrlover5996 Right... That much maturity and wisdom at that age is rare...! I don't know how old he was when he wrote "The Pretender", but that's another one I really love.
That’s one of my favorites too. Also “Late for the Sky, “Before the Deluge”, “Running on Empty” and “Sky Blue and Black”. It’s sort of hard to find one that I don’t love to tell the truth!
Jackson Browne is a friend of Don Henley and the late Glenn Frey, RIP. The 3 used to live near each other back in the 1970s. JB has written many good songs. 👍 This is 1 of them. 😃 His debut album was released 50 years ago 🎂 Suggested video 📹 Somebody's Baby 👶. From the movie 🎥 Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Released 40 years ago 🎂
Loved this reaction. David Lindley's lap steel guitar slays me. Jackson Browne's previous three albums are gems also, and the songs I'd recommend from them are: "My Opening Farewell" from the first album, "For Everyman" from the second, and "Before the Deluge" from the third.
Jackson Browne came from the group of musicians that came to be known as the Southern California sound, characterized by great vocals and, particularly, great vocal harmonies. Bands like The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt, and Poco, were a part of that scene and spawned a decades worth of hits across the board. If you like great vocal harmonies, try Poco, CRAZY LOVE for that lazy hazy So-Cal sound.
I'm going to NYC in July to see Jackson. I've been to 100's of concerts but have never seen him live. I go to NYC about every two years to see a special concert. The Covid lockdown had me on hold, so I'm real excited to get back to NYC for his show.
