It's because that land after greek empire of Alexander the great (when united all the Hellenic world together and today this is the reason Greece called Hellas) Also after roman-byzantime empire and ottoman empire that land didn't had identity and they are claiming they are ancient Macedonians when Macedonia is part of Hellenic world and unified after Alexander the great as I said all those Hellenic city states as one empire or one country with the name today greece-hellas. So those are Slavic people and came after thousands of years there and they don't have any connections with Alexander the great with the name Macedonia and the Greek history that all those names is written in ancient Greek and not in South Slavic the language those people speaking today. For example what exactly happened in Palestine when today the Muslims Arabs claiming they was the ancient philistinian people... The philistinian people (sea people) was Greek from Crete island who was living there and the Jews take over those lands after their freedom from Egyptians. Those philistines or they become part of Jewish state or all you know pass away. But after many years Romans took over and when the Jewish people try to rebel the Romans send them all over the world and then they named that land from Israel to Palestine..after that the Arabs took over those lands... So the today Arab Muslims doesn't have any connections with ancient Greek philistines...
