Well to make you feel better it’s a good strat to hold the coin. Holding a coin in 1st is a strat used in case you get boo’d, so that the boo will steal your coin and not whatever the other item you’re holding is. You can also item manipulate with it, where you have a coin in your first slot before you hit an item box to guarantee you’ll get something you can defend yourself with. The game doesn’t like giving you two coins at once under normal circumstances, so you’ll only get two coins if you’re in a custom rule set like mushrooms only or if the server you’re playing online races on is particularly laggy at that moment.

Holding the coin is actually a good play because of 2 things: 1. Some can have the boo item and if he didn’t hold the coin they would just take a good item like a banana or a shell 2. Because the game doesn’t give you 2 coins when you already have one (Unless it’s custom items) so it’s better to hold the coin to get an actual item.

I think they mean when people (most commonly ben, leland, desmond) hold items for too long or throw them back, just to then race poorly and retain their place. What you get is either mark or dylan stuck there until they get good enough items to break through to second and actually try and compete for first. This really does come down to them being bad with items. I'd be mad too if I was first, got hit by a redshell, then someone who just passes me threw a bomb or shells back they've held for too long. As someone who plays this game a lot you notice it's an actual issue and not just complaining. You should race for places for points, but playing objectively bad causing smart racers to lose to the other ones playing smart does feel bad. All to say that they should know by now to play more defensive in the back and wait for them to mess up

Maybe because sometimes they do that without thinking how to get a better position and they just there throwing items like dogs

Dylan is a real winner. he truly cares about winning rather than trying to control other people's placements and unpredictable items. it's especially disrespectful since he constantly whines when getting hoed or getting jumped while ignoring what the others have to face.
