A lot of people use soft cotton T shirts because towels like the one used on this client tends to leave lint in some people’s locs. So it makes sense for some people.

Right I’ve been growing my locs for 10 years and I’ve got minimal lint issues because I use t-shirts. I run a lint roller over them even, just to be on the safe side.
@JahleeyahKalonji
@JahleeyahKalonji 2 года назад
I hear you on the lint thing but if lint is the issue, try a german shammy, zero lint and absorbs way better than a thin t-shirt.....I tried the t-shirt thing, soaked right through, water still dripping. Drying time was too long for me. The shammy cuts down on the drying time greatly because of the high absorption level of the shammy. The only issues is the size, so I sew a few together.

his hair texture is like mine!! I finally feel seen. As a woman with this hair texture I feel embarrassed and alone because lots of women with locs near me have manicure locs and i feel pressured to retwist or look "presentable". I must admit that I wash my hair every two weeks because I feel embarrassed that others are going to comment on it "not being clean". At one point in my loc journey none of that was important to me and after watching this video i want to get back to what felt comfortable for me.

If I'm being honest, I would've wanted free form locs. I had to fight so much pressure from my family who didn't want me to loc my hair at all, I figured getting a nice, conventional set was a good compromise, and I LOVE my babies. They kinda look free form anyway lol but true free-forms were the dream. A lot of us bend for society without even realizing it. PLEASE never do the same. Women with true free form locs are rare asf nowadays. You'd be surprised how many of us wanted it but compromised. I personally don't want to see that kind of beauty disappear from the world. Love what you got. Don't be embarrassed ❤❤❤

He has an incredible set of locs. I watched the previous video with him in it, a while back, and it motivated me on my journey. I plan on going down the same route and letting them grow on their own. I'm approaching a year and a half in April. For some reason, I resonate the most with freeform/semi freeform. Thank you for sharing your gifts, Yannie. Peace and blissings.

My father is an ol school Jamaican rastafarian who had locs when he first came to the USA. And everything Yannie is saying are FACTS! My dad understands twisting locs to fit in better with todays society. Like Yannie said, if you don't have extensions, then locs are LOCS!

Blessing Queen! Yessss, a video on cutting locs/reasons would be great. We r torn about getting my 90 yrs young mama's locs cut. She started after retirement, getting it done continuously when she was well. Her health is declining, few meds and still being taken to get here hair done periodically. I speak against it but to no avail. So yes a video would be great! I hope to be able to book you/Jimmy when u came to Georgia...past due.

My great great Aunt who was born in the 1850's had hair to her butt..washed it once a year I was told. She was part Mississippi Choctaw. I have a pic of her. Not sure why she didn't wash her hair often..maybe that's how they did things then 🤷🏽‍♀️

Greetings Yannie. I love your vibe, watching this I thought when you do vid about cutting locks can you consider those of us who choose to not cut. I grew up in Rastafari so I know what you're talking about. My mother was also a pioneer, Nyabinghi Rasta who did it her way and she did choose to remove her natty twice for deep reasons. While I was loced at 7 but chose to comb them out at 9 years, adults wanted to cut but I wasn't having it and the idea came to me to cut. My locs now are 3rd set but at butt length giver or take and I don't see myself cutting, I don't like headwraps but it is a part of my spirituality even though I started from twists but my journey has been all me, no salon. I cleanse with spiritual washes, incense, mantras that kinda thing. My hair feels like a soul mate that has seen me through so much good and bad. 🙂 Hope you can fit on a part for people like me in the spiritual locs video 🙏🏾

With a T-shirt there’s no risk of lint as with a towel there is a risk and a shirt is made out of cotton just like a towel so what’s the big deal 🤷🏾
@JahleeyahKalonji
@JahleeyahKalonji 2 года назад
use a german shammy, no lint and the absorption is amazing, t-shirts are very thin, with very little absorption and there's still lint it's just not towel level lint.... but if it works for people then hey. I've tried and decided on the shammy instead.

Great questions ! I also have free forming locs that are waist length ) and the more they grow together (which always happens first near my scalp which pulls tighter and tighter on my roots so I try to keep on it by separating them as best I can by pulling them apart . I use microfiber towels to dry them by hand I’ve also been palm rolling them after I wash them or go swimming , which helps a lot and it helps dry them faster too since The additional friction and twisting (forces /squeezes) the majority of water out of them. Hope that helps you. Blessings to you all!

If you do not have any scalp issues you can use dr bronner's peppermint pure castile soap (read instructions you dont want to use too much) and you can wash every 2-3 months (you can increase the amount of time between washes especially if you don't use a lot of products in your hair) ... hope this helps

All depends on your hair some people can go months between washes while some have to wash every week or every other week. I personally wash every 2-3wks any longer than that my scalp is itchy/irritated
